If you’re on the northern hemisphere, are you getting in your last summer swims? what are the end of summer plans?
-
I personally love fall and can’t wait for it to begin. I will touch on this more in detail later, but while on the subject of fall - I know many people will soon be out buying cozy comforters and warm jackets. Please remember to purchase cruelty-free down alternative options. 💛

  • Since I have some new friends on here I thought I’d share a few things about the person behind these images.
-
My parents nickname for me was Imelda Marcos because I loved shoes. I’m told that age 3 is when I started taking my shoes off in stores to try on other ones.
-
I could live off olives.
-
I am a HSP + an introverted empath. I have social anxiety, but I’m pretty hilarious if I feel comfortable around you.
-
My first connection to veganism occurred at age 6 because of a lobster. I’ll share more about this story on another post.
-
I speak 3 languages. One of them is sarcasm.
-
I have a disorder called trichotillomania, which means I pull out my eyebrows involuntarily - something I’ve done since I was 9. For me, and many others, it is caused by severe bullying, body dysmorphia + low self esteem. For the first time in years + years I have real, full eyebrows. I’m pretty proud of myself because it’s very hard to control.
-
It takes me some time to respond to emails + messages. Please don’t be offended if I don’t answer right away. I promise I’m not being rude.
-
I love reading. Both of my grandfathers were avid readers + I’d like to think I inherited this love from them. I have very little possessions except for my book collection.
-
A few of my favourite things are a peat fire, bookstores, rain, being around non-human animals, fast cars, hockey, + Achill Island aka my home.
-
Clair de Lune makes me cry.
-
I do not have any photography training. I studied criminal justice with a minor in psychology in college. My goal was to be a police officer + help other females get some kind of justice after traumatic events.
-
I am stubborn. When people tell me I can’t do something, I certainly will do it. Or when they force me to do something, I probably won’t. I’m a Taurus zodiac, if that makes sense.
-
If you’ve read all this, thank you! Tell me something about yourself! I’d love to get to know you. 💛

  • Baby Stephen from @boochaces sanctuary is here to cheer up your day! He and his sister, Janet, are much bigger than this now but still just as adorable. I mean look at that little smile - it’s contagious.
-
I’m curious, what kind of animals would you like to see more photos of? 💛

  • Head over to @instagram where you can see my #Advocates video - which is on their main feed + IGTV. But first I have a little something I hope you’ll read.
-
I haven’t allowed anyone to photograph me for years. The thought of having my picture taken horrifies me. It’s debilitating. The truth is severe bullying during my childhood did serious damage I’m certain I’ll never be able to repair. But for the animals, I faced my greatest fear. I did it because the work I do + the world I’m fighting for is so much bigger than my life will ever be. If you want to change the world you have to be brave - or at least pretend to be.
-
When @instagram reached out to me inquiring about a series called “Advocates” I couldn’t believe it. There’s no way they’d want to feature me out of the millions of accounts filled with inspiring, hard working people. I’m just your average person trying to make the world a better place. I always say I don’t care if people know my name - I just want them to remember how my photographs make them feel.
-
I won’t lie, I wanted to say no at first to filming because of my extreme fear of being photographed. I realized though that this would be a huge disservice to the non-human animals whom I work so hard to help every single day. I did it for all those whom are suffering every second of every single day. I’ve seen the horrors they endure + I will do what I can to speak on their behalf.
-
At times I’ve wanted to give up because this work can be incredibly depressing + stressful financially. I am a starving artist but I know a life of meaning with less means more to me than living any other way. I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way, sent me words of encouragement, liked + shared my work, ordered prints, + donated their hard earned money towards my cause. I wouldn’t be here without each + every one of you. I hope you know how much it truly all means to me.
-
I can’t not thank @instagram + their incredible team who made this possible. I wouldn’t have been able to stay calm without their kindness + support during filming. I am so grateful. + of course thank you to @boochaces for allowing us to film at Rancho Relaxo. 💛

  • This is Stephen. He was rescued with his sister, Janet, by @boochaces who is holding him in this photo. I thought I’d take this opportunity to share some pig facts;
-
Pigs are smarter than 3 year old children, dogs + some primates. That means they 100% comprehend mistreatment + like us they feel fear, empathy, happiness, + many other emotions.
-
Pigs have excellent memories - they can also problem solve + learn symbols. They are one of the only animals that recognizes that a mirror is a reflection + not a window.
-
Domestic pigs can live up to 15-20 years old. But the majority of pigs in animal agriculture are killed at 6-8 MONTHS old.
-
A lot of people have the misconception that pigs are dirty - especially because they like to bathe in mud (they prefer water). Pigs actually do not have functional sweat glands so to cool down when it’s hot out they will bathe in mud. Not only does it keep them cool but it protects their skin from the sun. Sadly most pigs are forced to live in unclean conditions with no access to the outdoors. They live their lives out on concrete floors where they can not bathe, root in the dirt or even feel the sun on their skin.
-
Mother pigs called “breeding sows” are forced to have babies for 3-4 years. On most farms they are kept in gestation or farrowing crates where they can not even turn around or move to help their babies if they are in need. Pig moms form a strong bond with their babies + sing to them while they are nursing.
-
Something to remember is that the flesh of pigs known as bacon + other processed meats are a Group 1 Carcinogen - meaning there is scientific evidence to prove it causes cancer. It’s also linked to heart disease, high blood pressure + strokes. There are so many amazing vegan alternatives that are not only good for your health but kind to animals + the planet. I’ve listed some brands below:
-
@the_tofurky_company @eat_oumph @lightlifefoods @beyondmeat @vivavivera @uptonsnaturals @sweetearthfoods @yvesveggiecuisine @lindamccartneyfoods Feel free to share your favourites + any other pig facts. 💛

  • Have you ever had so much to say but can’t quite find the right words? Today is one of those days.
-
I do want to say that cows are beautiful, peaceful beings and they are deserving of compassion + respect like all species on this planet. They have always been my favourite animals, along with deer.
-
I remember when I took this photo - I didn’t sleep the night before because I had so much anxiety about many different things; life in general, the status of our planet, thinking about the suffering that so many are going through - most of which goes unnoticed or people simply just don’t care, among many other things. I laid in bed, staring at the ceiling waiting to see the light of day come through the blinds. Sometimes it’s really hard to hold onto hope that in the future things will be better for all species. I decided instead of laying there - and allowing my mind to wander further into the depths of sadness - to head out before the sunrise. I ended up finding a field full of cows where I spent the whole morning laying in the grass, photographing + petting them. Just being present in the moment. Being around animals brings me so much joy + for that time my anxiety seems to disappear.
-
Do you have a favourite animal? Is there a reason why they are your favourite? 💛

  • I am hurting from visiting an auction house yesterday. Emotionally drained. My head is pounding + my throat is on fire from breathing in the dirty, bacteria laden air for hours on end. I’ll be fine + will continue to visit these places forever, it’s the animals I feel for. I don’t cry for myself ever - I cry for them. I drove 2.5 hours home last night in tears the entire way, wondering what more can I do? How can we end the mass suffering that’s occurring every single day? The animals don’t deserve the treatment they receive. It’s so unnecessary + in 2019 we CAN do better.
-
Though there are many bad days, there are also wonderful ones where I get to spend some time with rescued animals. This beautiful + lucky soul is Arthur whom resides at @arthursacres. He reminds me a lot of the one pig we wanted so badly to save yesterday - she was laying on top of other pigs, awaiting shipment. I’ll never forget her face.
-
@arthursacres - which is run by the wonderful @vegan_4_the_animals - is heaven on earth. Seeing the animals thriving, free + happy is the greatest gift. Look at his eyes - they are so similar to the eyes we all see looking back at ourselves in the mirror. Animals think + feel. They understand physical pain + grief. They don’t want to be abused or killed. If you or I were in their place we would want someone standing up for us + our kind. Please open up your hearts + minds. For the animals like Arthur, the environment + your health. 💛 #veganismislove
