@tylerperry I am so grateful to have witnessed the historic grand opening of @tylerperrystudios, one of the greatest displays of Black excellence and tributes to our icons that the world has ever seen. You have built an empire that has, and will continue to, open doors for so many who have been shut up and shut out of the entertainment industry. Your impact is unparalleled. I thank you, I celebrate you & I will continue to uplift your efforts through my work in Congress.
Yesterday, @hasanminhaj joined me for the first ever Committee hearing on the #studentloandebtcrisis & this is only the beginning. We’re going to keep fighting on behalf of the millions of young people who are saddled with student loan debt. Too much #hassleforatassel!
800+ residents joined my Housing Forum in #Inglewood. The event was a great success & lasted more than five hours! I am so pleased to have hosted such an informative discussion about the affordable housing and homelessness crisis and my landmark bill, H.R. 1856, The Ending Homelessness Act, which will provide $13B to end homelessness in America.
This weekend I joined Dems to fight back against the GOP & Trump’s attacks on the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act. I met w/ doctors & health personnel @ Centinela Hospital in Inglewood to discuss our efforts to protect Medicare, Medicaid & preexisting condition converage. #HealthcareWeekend
Mueller made clear Trump is NOT exonerated and that AG Barr is a liar. Mueller did his job now it's time for Congress to do its job. No more hiding behind the special counsel. Enough is enough. It's time to #ImpeachTrump. We can't wait for 2020. The time is NOW!
I am incredibly honored and humbled to be awarded with the 2019 Franklin D. Roosevelt Distinguished Public Service Award by the Roosevelt Institute and representatives from many of the nation’s largest labor unions who co-chaired the event -- the SEIU , Teamsters, Amalgamated Bank, AFSCME, Communications Workers of America, and the AFT - American Federation of Teachers. I thank you for this honor, and I thank you for your support!
I’m proud to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the contributions of Mexican Americans in my district and across the U.S. My office joined events in Lennox and Gardena in honor of this special day. Let us all show our appreciation to Mexican Americans for enriching our society and culture! #cincodemayo
My heart is heavy with the news that one of the world’s greatest directors and storytellers, and one of South Los Angeles’ most beloved sons -- John Daniel Singleton -- has died. There is perhaps no other filmmaker in history that has so artfully chronicled the story and spirit of South Los Angeles as John Singleton. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to his parents, children, relatives, and friends. Though he is no longer with us, his work and his impact are larger than life, and his legacy will live on forever. #JohnSingleton
I enjoyed joining with residents of #Inglewood and families throughout our community to celebrate #EarthDay and raise awareness for the actions we can take to protect our environment. Inglewood’s 2019 Protect and Respect the Environment Music festival was a great success! Pictured above are California State Senator Steven Bradford, Elston Butler from KJLH Radio, and Grammy nominated and highly acclaimed singer and songwriter Kenny Lattimore. Thank you to all the elected officials, organizers, volunteers, and talented musicians who shared their talents with us! (photo credit: The City of Inglewood)
I was so pleased to present a Certificate of Special Recognition to Maria de Jesus Benitez in recognition of her volunteer efforts at Lomita STEAM Magnet in my district. Maria serves as the Chair of the English Learner Advisory Committee, a member of the School Site Committee, a classroom volunteer, an office volunteer, and a PTA volunteer. Pictured with us is also former Lomita Magnet PTA president Esther Hatch (far right). Thank you for your dedication and service, Maria!
