  • Photo by @mborowick | A long exposure photograph taken on Route 1 in California. As a car drives South, its headlights hit heavy fog causing this incredible moment to happen. Big Sur is home to some of the most beautiful scenic highway driving in the entire state. #california #bigsur #stars

  • Photo by @Kahliaprilphoto | This shot perfectly represents Antarctica for me. 5 hours of zodiac cruising through the calm waters of Charlotte Bay, surrounded by icebergs, seals, whales, towering peaks and some of the best light I've ever seen. Here, a humpback whale shows off her fluke against a dramatic background of mountains and ice.

  • Photo by @CristinaMittermeier | The breathtakingly-beautiful islands of French Polynesia were formed in the wake of volcanic activity and coral growth. An atoll is a coral reef that grows in the rough shape of a ring, often around an extinct volcano. Over time, the volcano sinks underwater, but the coral grow close to the surface, creating a lagoon. Here, a boy swims in the waters of Rangiroa, an atoll famous for its clear blue water and diverse marine fauna. Rangiroa has 415 islets made out of coral, and people live year-round on two of them. #FollowMe at @CristinaMittermeier for more photos and stories from my recent expedition to French Polynesia. #coralreef #biodiversity #volcano #ocean

  • Photo by @sofia_jaramillo5 | Wax Palm trees grow in the Cocora Valley near Salento, Colombia. The enormous trees grow up to 200 feet tall and thrive in high-altitude places. When I first explored this area, I was astonished by the beauty of these trees. They reminded me of a book from my childhood. Can you guess which one? For more photos from Colombia and other South American countries follow me @sofia_jaramillo5 #takemethere #colombia #travelinggram #treesofinstagram

  • Photo by @emilypolar | A small window into the vast Himalayan region of Leh, Ladakh. At an altitude of 3,524 metres with an average annual rainfall of only 102 mm (4.02 inches) this dry and rocky moon like landscape maintains it's monochromatic palette that pops when when contrasting colors appear.

  • Photo by @coryrichards | Mount Everest is both a travel destination as much as it’s a proving ground for serious alpinists. Seen here is my lone yellow tent mid-frame while my partner and I acclimatized on Everest’s nearby mountain, Island Peak. Traveling mountaineers can be seen along side the deep crevasse to their right. Dangers like these are present for the traveler and the seasoned alpinists alike.
#followme @coryrichards to see real-time footage of Himalayan #travel #culture and #mountains as I am attempting to #climb new route on the North East face of #everest.

  • Photo by @DaisyGilardini | King penguins commute every morning from the colony to the beach, like diligent workers commuting to work in the big cities. They then jump into the sea to fish for the day. I was fortunate to spend a full week in the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) in late October, following them. Rain or shine, I was there at the beach witnessing the parade and trying to capture the elegance of these gentle creatures in the morning light. Follow me @DaisyGilardini for more images and stories behind the scenes. #penguin #kingpenguin #falklandislands #conservation

  • Photo by @PaulNicklen | As the setting sun touched the horizon, a humpback whale graciously lifted its fluke before disappearing into the icy depths to feed. Once at an alarming risk of extinction from excessive hunting, humpback whale populations have made a remarkable comeback. Their recovery was showcased on this night in Antarctica, as we witnessed hundreds of humpbacks gorging on krill; a species which sustains almost all life in the area. #FollowMe at @PaulNicklen and explore my feed for more photos from #Antarctica. #humpback #whale #ocean #nature

  • Photo by @acacia.johnson | Wearing a waterproof sealskin parka, a kayaker prepares to demonstrate an underwater roll in Sisimiut, West Greenland. These impressive maneuvers mimic the challenging situations that Inuit hunters once found themselves in, such as needing to right their kayak one-handed or with one hand attached to a harpoon line. Today, these rolls have been integrated into competition sports. Follow me at @acacia.johnson for more stories from the Arctic and beyond. #greenland #kayak #arctic

  • Photo by @taylorglenn | A beautiful starry evening in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, a touch of luminance from the moon highlights the saguaro cacti. There is something sublime and wonderful about the desert at night. Follow @taylorglenn for more from the West and beyond. #arizona #desert

  • Photo by @andrea_frazzetta | A horse-drawn carriage in the streets of the Palazzo Reale district (also known as Albergheria), the historic center of Palermo, Italy. The Romans, Arabs, and Normans all left their mark on the picturesque Sicilian capital, where boisterous back streets and open-air markets collide to create a joyous sense of anarchy.
