  • Here we are, up to no good. Actually, up to hopefully a lot of good. Mark’s group, “We Stand United”, met last night to present plans for the 2020 election. We have many roads that lead to victory. Millions will participate. Everyone off the bench!

  • ‪What a true world leader looks like. The prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, put on a hijab, said “They are us,” announced the gun laws were going to change and called out white supremacists, haters and Donald Trump. She’s 38. SHE.

‪“I would like to be able to take out my pocket Constitution and say that the equal citizenship stature of men and women is a fundamental tenet of our society like free speech.”‬

Let’s pass the ERA this year!

  • Trump threatens violence again as we await the Mueller report: "I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump — I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough — until they go to a certain point and then it would be very bad, very bad."

  • “Manafort devoted his career to normalizing corruption in DC. By the time he was caught, his extraordinary avarice had become so commonplace, that not even a federal judge could blame him for it." - from “Paul Manafort's 'Otherwise Blamess Life' of Crime” in The Atlantic

  • ‪Starting soon — 8pm ET/PT tonite on PBS I learn the British sold one of my ancestors as a slave in chains on a slave ship “This is the first time in all my yrs of doing this show where a white guest of mine had a ancestor who was a slave,” the series host says to me. “Unheard of.”‬ His great-great grandson, though, would end up killing a lot of British in the Revolutionary War, thus proving the value, I guess, of eventual payback.

Enjoy!

  • Tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 26th, I will be one of the subjects on the PBS show "Finding Your Roots" hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
This is the show where you find out what awful things your ancestors and relatives did before you could stop them, which of course you couldn't stop them because you weren't born yet, but even if you could've stopped them they probably wouldn't have listened to you, a baby from the future, blathering on about Legos and peanut allergies.

Of course, you learn good things about your ancestors, too. I had to sign a document saying I wouldn't reveal anything before the show airs, but I can say this: Whatever I thought my story was of how my family came to America or how I ended up who I am, that all got turned on its spinning head. This isn't some 23 & Me in a box or ancestory.com discovery that tells you you're 32% Saskatchewanian. Gates' devoted team of researchers based at Harvard do the deep dive into all kinds of shit you'd never think in a million years has anything to do with you. For instance, in the only clip of the show they've released, Dr. Gates informs me that my great-great-great grandfather was a draft-dodging, peacenik-loving dude who was put on trial for refusing to fight -- IN THE WAR OF 1812! And that's just a taste of what I was presented with. More than once during the taping, Gates began a sentence with "In all my many years of doing this series, you are the first...". The first what? I'm not allowed to say what before tomorrow night. I will share with you a clue as to one gobsmacked moment: I learn that I am a cousin to one of our nation's 45 presidents. Oh, it's not pretty. "Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr." airs on all PBS stations tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 8pm ET/7pm CT. If you live west of Deadwood or Dodge City, look it up. West Coast people, you can watch it at 8pm your time. International friends -- watch it in whatever way you consume our Public Broadcasting Service.
