  • #MyBrilliantFriend / The story is about a relationship, two people whose connection starts in childhood and it goes through their entire life, so there's a kind of polarity in the music. That comes out most obviously in a lot of the piano music — a piano duet, two players.
The other starting point for the music is a well known traditional tune called La Follia, which is from the Mediterranean. I borrowed it as a theme and then heavily disguised it, repurposing it as a part of the melodic texture. We sort of recognise it, it creeps up on our subconscious. (Vinyl & CD - Link in the profile)

  • MEMORYHOUSE | Released 17 years ago this week:

Musical works are like theories, a set of questions around a subject or a situation. With ‘Memoryhouse’, there are a series of questions about social, political history in the Twentieth century and I wanted to connect that with various musical languages and various kinds of musical storytelling. It’s a hybrid, dense work, full of questions and theories.

I realised that nobody was ever going to fund a project like this, so I just wrote the work for my own peace of mind - to just get it out of my system. (Listen via link in profile)
