  • Rip Bob Hawke. A true Aussie legend.
I felt lucky not just to have met the man and shake his hand, but hear him speak, tell jokes that would leave the room in hysterics and finish with the full singing of Waltzing Matilda every single year at the @thejackcc .
Mum and Dad had known him through the years and was a bloke they both truly idolized.

The second photo in this post always made me smile - In it is my Uncle Bruce with Bob and the smile on my mums face always gets me cos she knew how stoked he was to meet the legend.

Politically, what he did for this country, or as a personality - like that hilarious statement as PM in 83’ after Australia won sailing’s America’s cup “Any boss that sacks a worker for not turning up today is a bum." Or the fact that even before leading our nation he held the Guinness world record in 54’ for sculling 2.5 pints of beer in 11 seconds - his shoes will never be filled.
Mr Hawke, cheers for everything.

  • Lest We Forget .
On this day we pay a very special thanks to all those past and present who have dedicated themselves & those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
.
I’ve had family on both sides fight in both world wars but only a few weeks ago we found out an amazing story about this photo. I’d seen it as a young fella hearing about the man in the middle, my Mum’s grandad - Vincent.
My Nanna was only 3 when he passed so a lot about his life we never knew, including the mates he’d made and took this photo with.
.
It was only when a few weeks ago mum had this out and dad walked past her, saw it and asked why she’d had his uncles photo..?
.
After some confusion and then phone calls to their own parents, they’d just discovered that both sides had been sent this photo, but for different people.. The man in the middle was mum’s grandad, and the man on the left - is actually my dad’s Uncle Ivan.
.
Mates through war who’s families would go on unknowingly staying connected and enjoy the beautiful life made possible by all those brave men and women who gave their all.
.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
