  • it was thursday, june 6th around 5:30 pm when i was having a pool day with a friend. i was in complete bliss swimming around in the crystal clear water and bathing in the rays of the sweet southern california sun... when i sensed that something was wrong. as i began to look around, i noticed something wasn’t as it was supposed to be. as i creeped a little closer that’s when i realized what it was. there was a bee struggling to stay alive on top of the chlorine dispenser in the middle of my pool. i quickly sprang into action, knowing exactly what i had to do. as fast as a lightning strike, i grabbed the poor little honey bee without hesitation & carefully placed him on the brick layer surrounding the pool. at this point i was filled with doubt, not thinking the fragile insect was going to make it. you could tell he was in a lot of pain and struggling to dry himself off. in half the speed it would take that so raven to have a vision, i had one of my own... i had to take matters into my own hands. as i inhaled, this pollen sucker was slowly collapsing & time was running out. the more i blew, the more i was losing hope. until... a shake of a leg...
and a flutter of a wing...
we were making progress, this bug was going to make it! throughout my efforts, this strong and brave honey producer stayed positive and optimistic. as we worked together to dry off his almost microscopic body hair, i took a step back and smiled. watching what had just happened in front of my own eyes was miraculous. we were both put in that position to learn a lesson. i now have a newfound respect and love for bees. they are super friendly and extremely important to our ecosystem. so the next time you see a struggling insect on the ground, think twice about what actions you are about to take. at the end of the whole ordeal, i gently allowed him to crawl upon my hand, take a break from all the stress and i carefully placed him on top of a flower. as he ramped up his wing speed and began to fly away i wanted to ask him for his name, but i got nervous & i never got it. so from me to you little buddy, safe travels & i hope to see you around sometime.

  • dear hudson mattix, ur my 1 month old nephew as i am typing this message. u pooped & threw up on me the first time i held u... but that’s alright, i’ll give u another shot. from ur big smile that contains no teeth (as of yet) to the birthmark on ur leg, i will protect every inch of u for the rest of my life. u have the best mom in the world & i know that for a fact. she has been to hell and back, so i know there is nothing she can’t handle. but other than that, i promise to be the coolest uncle ever. anytime u need something or just wanna get away from ur mom, let me know & i’ll get u outta there haha. at my house, we can watch tv way past our bed times, drink soda till our teeth hurt & eat as much pizza as the place will deliver. i love you buddy & i can’t wait to get to know u.
