  • Happy Father’s Day @adamgoucher!! I love that you can teach Colt to do the things I’m no good at, but most importantly you are gentle, understanding, and loving with him. I could not be more proud of you. We are so lucky to have you!! 👪❤️

  • Wowza, without a doubt the hardest thing I have ever done! There were a lot of dark moments today, but some really amazing trail runners and glancing at #bravelikegabe on my arm got me to the finish. Huge thank you to everyone who talked me through the pukes and gave such good encouragement. I would not have finished without you. My goal was to average between 9:00- 10:00 minute mile pace and I averaged 8:56, but it was a tough battle to get there. Major shout out to EVERYONE who ran today, my respect level for altitude trail racers could not be higher. And the top women were FLYING. Massive tip of my hat to you all! I’m in awe of you 😱.Thank you @ltraceseries for this absolutely amazing experience. I wanted to challenge myself, and you truly gave me my biggest athletic challenge ever! #leadvilletrailmarathon Thanks @trappephoto for capturing the day!

  • Like so many of you, I woke up with a heavy heart today. I thought of this picture. I love this photo of @gigrunewald. In this moment she realized she was as good as she dreamt she’d be. She was a national champion and heading to the World Championships. She had no idea of the battle ahead, she was allowed this moment of happiness.
Thank you @justingrunewald1 for sharing your personal and painful journey with all of us. For letting us in. We are so grateful to have known Gabe and her fight. We will all think of and love her forever. You said it best, “At the end of the day people won’t remember the PRs run or the teams qualified for but they will remember that hard period in their life where they were losing hope but they found inspiration in a young lady who refuses to give up.” No truer words have been spoken.

More than 10 years ago, my friend @gigrunewald was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer. I understand that Gabe is not a patient at St. Jude, but right now, she is fighting for her life. Cancer is ugly and it is mean and it doesn’t fight fair. This has gotten extremely personal.. so here’s what I’m going to do about it: I want us to hit that $500K mark by midnight tonight. So I will be personally matching all #ChipInChallenge donations made between now and midnight. ON TOP OF THAT, I'll also be matching that amount in the form of a donation to the #BraveLikeGabe Foundation, in Gabe's honor. That is 3x the power of your generosity in the fight against cancer.. and all YOU need to do is donate whatever you can to the
@StJude #ChipInChallenge (link in bio) between now and midnight CT. I’ll take care of the rest. Together, we’re going to fight for those who are fighting for just one more day. This is for those precious kids at St. Jude.. we are pulling for you! And to my beautiful friend Gabe.. we love you and we are here for you every step of the way.

  • We are halfway through the #ncaatrackandfield champions and so my #flashbackfriday is from my personal breakthrough NCAA Track and Field Championships in 2000. It was the first time I ever entered a big race as a favorite. I learned a lot about managing pressure and perceived expectations. My coach Mark Wetmore kept me calm and focused on the process and I was able to win both the 3000m and the 5000m. Good memories and lessons that I took with me for the rest of my career. Happy Friday everyone and #gobuffs!

  • In case you haven’t seen this post yet, I’m reposting @justingrunewald1 post about his wife @gigrunewald from yesterday. Gabe and Justin have shown so much strength and grace during Gabe’s battle with cancer. She has taught us all to be determined, strong, and to never give up. She has been such an inspiration to me and to countless others. Please read Justin’s post below and then leave a message of strength, love, or hope for Gabe and Justin. Let’s let them see how many people they have behind them. Linked in my bio is an incredible piece about Gabe and her bravery written by Tim Layden. Take the time to read it and then let’s support these two! #bravelikegabe ・・・

Yesterday was the worst day of my life. I woke up next to my wife to a group of alarmed nurses rushing us to the ICU. Her morning labs had come back and “they did not look good.” @gigrunewald seemed a little confused but otherwise fine. Upon arriving to the ICU I reviewed her labs with her team of internist and critical care doctor and immediately ran out of the hospital crying. For medical professionals her lactate was 23 and pH was 6.9, values incompatible with life. They started fluid resuscitation, placed a PICC line gave two units of blood and her numbers had worsened with a lactate of 26. She was relatively unaware and at peace. I made the hardest decision of my life with her family and brother to move her to comfort care. I actually got the opportunity to say goodbye to her alone and inform her she was dying, at that time she did not seem to be comprehending much. Shortly after I told her she was dying she took a deep breath and yelled “NOT TODAY.” We went to bed shortly after I felt for her radial pulse all night on her arm with her mother and @abigailande sleeping on her other side. At around 8am when the critical care doctor came in the room Gabe woke me up because she wanted to order breakfast. After stopping cares most of her labs had normalized on their own and she is now eating a @shakeshack burger out of the ICU. Talking to all my doctor colleagues they have never seen another patient survive similar circumstances. It can

  • Been working on a fun new project!! @cleansportco now has a podcast! We will be celebrating clean athletes and those who support clean sport! So follow @cleansportco to listen to the first episode!! ・・・
We are thrilled to introduce the Clean Sport Collective Podcast. Our goal is to offer you a unique perspective to the clean sport conversation through the most powerful voices in this impactful community across athletes, brands, events and governing bodies representing a variety of sports disciplines.

This high quality production would not be possible without @roguechris, a co-owner of Austin’s Rogue Running and host of the Rogue Running Podcast. Chris will be the lead host of the Clean Sport Collective Podcast alongside fellow changes agents @karagoucher and @shannaburnette. Coming out of the gates we will be delivering three episodes in the first week, and from there we are scheduled to publish a new show every two weeks.

We truly look forward to doing our part to re-engage the clean sport community and give you an insider’s ear into the conversations that will shape the tone and mobilize the movement pursuing athletics in the absence of performance enhancing drugs. We are all in this together so please send us a note with your interview recommendations and any feedback, questions.

In episode #1, Chris and Kara interview Travis Tygart, the CEO of the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). @usantidoping is the national anti-doping organization (NADO) in the United States for Olympic and Paralympic sport. The organization is charged with managing the anti-doping program, including in-competition and out-of competition testing, results management processes, drug reference resources, and athlete education for all United States Olympic Committee (USOC) recognized sport national governing bodies, their athletes, and events.
