  • Some have wondered what I'm currently working on with the Ferrari so I thought I'd share an update. The magnetic ride shocks began leaking on some units so Joe and I decided to replace them. Video'd is the actual front 458 shock which has the leak, but I've cleaned it up for this video. I thought page followers would get a kick out of seeing it, since people RARELY have a chance to see any of the internal working parts on a Ferrari.

Initially, they were sent in to a rebuild shop to see if there was a chance they could be rebuilt, but no. Since they're sealed, there isn't a chance so going new is the only option. You could buy used 458 shocks from eBay, but those units offer no assurance they don't leak. After much research on the Internet, I was able to find the factory replacements.
2 things I learned:

1 - the Ferrari tax is real and you have to be mentally and financially prepared. I thought the 1991 NSX tax was high, but nope, be prepared to pucker up and take it straight up.

2 - most parts can't be picked up at your local shop. I've had to order online and Ferrari parts are generally 1-2 weeks (or more) before they get sent to you because they're stocked outside the U.S. So be prepared to wait while the car is patiently waiting for it's new bits. And don't forget shipping and import taxes.

Joe has been steadily going through the 458 from top to bottom to ensure it's in tip-top shape and meets his high standard for mechanical excellence. We've had it out for test drives and the car is stunning. It's spine tingling with every press of the accelerator. The new shocks are coming in soon so the 458 will be ready to rip up the streets of MN and singing at the top of it's lungs. We plan on lots of fly-by videos!

P.S. I'm thinking of turning this shock into Ferrari memorabilia wall art. Thoughts / Ideas?-

  • Can’t stop staring at this thing. Jeez it’s gorgeous. Next stop BIR. Wishing I could take the 458 but MN weather says “denied”.

  • This week is National Police Week. I was honored to spend the entire day (7am-4pm) on a ride-along with my good buddy Dan. I truly have a newfound appreciation for their hard work and commitment to serving the community. Dan and his team of deputies were highly professional with each engagement. It's refreshing to witness first hand, how compassionate and understanding they really are to each situation. They really do take time to listen and are not just out to get us. The first 4 hours today was wild and just like an episode of cops. You really can't make this stuff up. Due to privacy, I can't post any photos of that encounter. We also visited an elementary school and had lunch with the 2nd graders. The children went wild and treated Dan like a celebrity. We even left with blue gift bags in celebration of National Police Week.
Tip for all my car friends, keep your car in tip-top shape. If you're missing a front plate, have a cracked windshield or tail light out, it gives cops a reason to pull you over and say hello. But if we do get pulled over, being courteous and honest will go a LONG way towards not getting a ticket. Cops are humans, and sometimes car enthusiasts too, and will often not issue a ticket if you've got your life in order.

  • In honor of National Police Week, I scheduled a ride-along with my good friend Dan. I’m usually staring at cop cars from the inside of my car. This was a unique opportunity to gain a view from his vantage point. The first 4 hours was Jerry Springer-type wild. Too bad I can’t show any pics of it! But here is the second set I am allowed to show.
