London 2012 is still one of my proudest moments. I had broken my foot in 2011 & missed out on the World Champs in Daegu 😿 I sat watching from my sofa, crying, with a moon boot, crutches in one hand & a box of Lindt chocolate in the other! I said to both my mum & dad that next year, I wouldn't be watching from the sofa. They both shot me a 'OK petal, good on you for having a dream!' look. But less than a year later, me & my new bionic foot were lining up for THE FREAKING OLYMPIC GAMES! πŸ˜†πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
-
The whole experiece was pretty cool, but hugely overwhelming for someone who only a year ago was a student, fuelled entirely by alcohol & cheesy chips! I didn't race well going from Scottish Uni Champs in Grangemouth with about 4 folk in the stands to the Olympics - was a pretty big step up in competition!πŸ˜‚
-
I'll always remember THE NOISE! Deafening. First day I arrived into the village - I stood on my wee balcony when Jess Ennis was announced & I could hear them cheering.. from my bloody balcony... miles away! I spent the next few days trying to avoid a heart attack & also avoiding the free McDonald's everyone was raving about🍟
-
Twitter had become popular so all the team's phones were going mad with notifications. Two I'll always remember were: "Well, she's skipped breakfast this morning!' - I didn't πŸ˜‰ & "yeah I would, but I'm worried she'll snap in two" - how compassionate...πŸ™„πŸ˜‚ Even in 2012, trolls existed!
-
London nightlife was also a step up from Fat Sam's in Dundee. In a posh club, I was asked to join a table of rich, sleazy, old men. I politely declined. Left the club. Took my shoes off & sprinted along Oxford Street to catch the last tube back to the athlete village!πŸƒπŸΌ I headed to McDonald's & ordered the entire menu! 🐷
-
2012 taught me 3 things: Never allow nerves to destroy your performance. It's just running in circles whether it's a circle in Dundee or a circle in the London Olympic Stadium. Secondly, believe you should be there. No one granted you a wish - you worked your ass off to be there just like everyone else. And thirdly, McDonald's taste much better when it's free 😜
-
Ps. I also made Rio 2016

  • Back in the gym! πŸ’ͺ😣 Smiling but actually I'm πŸ’€β˜  inside... I've tried loads of different things over the past few years, with regards to balancing gym work and racing. There's been periods where I've tried to keep it going, but often found my races have sacrificed a little! πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ
-
During heavy racing blocks, I really back off and let my legs recover from the races - rather than worrying about losing strength in the gym! πŸ‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I keep a very small scale rehab/body weight version of those exercises in my programme, but don't weight them. This way it allows my body to remember the exercises but without sacrificing the quality in my sessions or races!
-
Fresher legs allow me to run faster in sessions and the better quality sessions allow me to race faster! Pretty simple 😊
-
After a racing block is over, I'll gradually build back into the gym again and will repeat this throughout the season to ensure that my body peaks at the right time! πŸ’₯What gym exercises can you not live without?
-

  • I'm so grateful to travel around the world with my running - but with limbs the size of a giraffe, it can make things a little challenging! πŸ¦’πŸ™
-
I always really struggle to sleep on overnight flights and where possible I try to fly during the day.. Lack of sleep means I ALWAYS end up catching every virus known to man! 🀧 One person can sneeze about 4 cabins away from me but rest assured those wee germs will be making their way down my oesophagus by the end of the trip! πŸ˜‚
-
@trtl have come to my rescue πŸ™Œ - with their new TRTL Travel Pillow Plus! (swipe ->) Instead of falling asleep on top of strangers or cranking my neck like a candy cane - I can finally get a good night's sleep! 😴 Easy to use, compact and comfortable! Here's to a good night's sleep! πŸ›ŒπŸ€—

  • Survived my run this morning.. there is honestly nothing more deadly than wild geese on a canal path! πŸ˜‚πŸ¦†
.
On one section, a lovely man shielded me with his bike.. Second time, I closed my eyes, hoped for the best and sprinted past faster than Usain Bolt! πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨Third time unfortunately they got me...
.
4 big boys, spread out across the path looking like aggressive bouncers, outside a club, of which I used to have no problem sneaking past underage. πŸ”ž Unfortunately, they won this time and I had to retreat; running the long way round through ASDA car park!
.
Tried to speak to them rationally before the conversation went sour and I called them arseholes...πŸ€¬πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Even though they don't speak English - I could tell it made them more angry, so the long way round it was!
.
Thankfully I've lived to tell the tale - with all my limbs still intact! πŸ™Œ 🀣 #killergeese #averyrandomstory (wearing asics metaride πŸ‘Ÿ)

  • Excited to announce some new members to my team! 😜 πŸ™Œ Welcome, EAT REAL! @eatrealsnacks
-
After discovering their crisps whilst out in Switzerland and subsequently becoming a hummus addict πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ - I can't wait to have such a brilliant brand supporting me towards Tokyo 2020! πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Today I got a tour of their UK factory and a chance to meet the owners. A true family run business with great values (and even better snacks!)πŸ˜‹
-
Ps. If you have the self control to stop yourself from eating the whole bag in one sitting... then you deserve a gold medal! πŸ˜‚πŸŽ–#teammccolgan

  • PB & Scottish record this evening in Hengelo! 🀩🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Picked up a cold after Rome and wasn't going to race... right up until the warm up! Glad I did! 😎

Went off bit too hard & paid the price over the last few KMs. But ran a lot of the race alone so I'm happy with a 14.47 for now! Not so quick to give a pee sample though... two hours later and I'm needing another 40ml urine before I can leave! πŸ˜… Only person out of the 18 girls in my race... I hope they save me some food from the buffet! πŸ˜‚πŸ· #agoodday

  • Always good fun racing the top 1500m runners in the world! 🌍πŸ”₯
-
The race was a bit messy, with the pace a little erratic but that's what makes the 1500m so much fun! πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Little too slow through 800m, but still came away with 6th place behind some pretty incredible athletes to clock my third fastest time ever - 4.02.2! πŸ’₯ Adding a World Qualifying time and Olympic Qualifying time into the mix over both 1500m and 5000m - I'd say it's been a cracking week of racing!
-
There's no better feeling than when your body cooperates. After European Indoors, I felt so low - continually battling against my own body. But I'm proud to have turned it around and excited to see just how fast we can go this season! A healthy runner is a happy runner πŸ’― And a happy runner is one who feels unstoppable.πŸƒπŸ˜€

  • From 2011 to 2019... Some things never change 😜 (swipe➑️) Stockholm was my first ever senior Championship for GB at the European Team Cup. With ASICS on my feet then, and now again 8 years later - it's been a crazy journey that really has gone full circle! πŸ‘ŸπŸ”ƒ
-
Back in 2011, I actually travelled as a GB reserve for ALL middle/long distances. So if anyone pulled out the 800m,1500m,3000m, steeplechase OR 5,000m - I'd have to step in.. Considering I had just spent 3 years of my life being a typical student with a face the shape of the moon from all the alcohol and kebabs I'd been consuming - this was a pretty scary proposition! πŸ˜…
-
I had started to take my Athletics seriously for a few months, so the prospect of having to step in for Jenny Meadows over an 800m (when my PB was 2.12) or 5,000m for Helen Clitheroe (when I'd never raced one before) was absolutely terrifying!
-
Luckily for me, someone dropped out the steeplechase, my event at the time, and so wee baba Eilish was very relieved but still peeing her breeks at the thought of racing as a senior! πŸ˜‚ I had a pair of ASICS spikes gifted to me by a family friend from Japan. Wearing them I remember feeling like a superhero. Strong, fierce and determined. We were a team and I was ready to run as fast as I possibly could! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ I went on to run a PB that day and remember being so chuffed with myself! πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š
-
It was a race that kick started my career. Being around such incredible athletes opened my eyes to elite side of the sport. I'll always be grateful for that opportunity!
-
"Dear shoes, 8 years on... and this journey is far from over. In fact, we're only just getting started!" πŸ’―

Grab your superhero shoes and enjoy some miles on Global Running Day! πŸ† #DearShoes #GlobalRunningDay

  • Social media reminded me yesterday of how good it can be sometimes! 😁 A few of the tracks were closed around Manchester due to Athletics meets, but a lovely lady contacted me on Twitter to say they could open a track for me to train! Yaldi! 😎
-
In return they asked if a young group of athletes could come along to watch. πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ One of the junior boys raced a 3.59 PB over 1500m the day before but asked to join the session. It turned out to be one of my best ever sessions - running big PBs over a short set of 400m's. First time I've saw 60s on my watch in a LONG time! Great to have my maw on the stop watch too! πŸ™ŒπŸ’―
-
Lactic to my eyeballs, but it was great to see some of the younger athletes jumping in and out, running some speedy times too! Was a cracking day all bar the absolute pishing rain that decided to arrive just as we were cooling down! Soaked right through to my breeks, driving home like wee drowned rats but with a big smile on my face. Nothing better than a runners high! 🀩
-
The running community is pretty special! Huge thanks to Stockport Harriers! πŸ™
