WE'RE DEBT FREE!!!!!!!!!!
Holy cow, I'm so excited to be able to say that. We are grateful to @daveramsey and his amazing Baby Steps for helping us climb our way out of the hole we had made for ourselves. Car Loans- PAID ✅ , Medical Bills- PAID✅, Student Loans- PAID✅ Credit Cards- PAID✅, Personal Loan-PAID✅.
From now on, 👑CASH IS KING👑. No more car loans, no more credit card bills creeping up and up, NO MORE DEBT EVER! Debt is normal, I'm proud to be weird!
and now... on to step 3.

I want to thank my husband for all his hard work and SO MANY extra hours. My partner in Dave!!! I also want to thank @britterirene for always talking Dave with me and encouraging us to reach our goals.

If I can do this, you can too.
My journey started 6 months after I finished a post-grad internship for nutrition/dietetics.
.
.
The student loans finally started rolling in, and boy were they scary! Add to that fear the fact that during my internship, I learned that the field of nutrition was not going to make me happy. So, I did what my heart told me was right and decided NOT to continue in that direction.
.
.
The six months after the internship were stressful because I knew I would soon have to pay my student loans, and now, I had no direction. I felt lost. To pay the bills until I figured something out, I worked as a part-time trivia DJ making $50/night and a full-time cafeteria worker for my mom (who was my biggest cheerleader during this process) at a private school in Nashville making maybe $3-400/week. .
.
Not long afterwards, God blessed me with a job at one of the best air lines in the country. Shortly afterwards, I discovered @daveramsey . For the last two years, I’ve busted my butt working, lived at home, and saved saved saved! My phone (and the phone case) is 4 years old. My 1998 truck still sports the massive dent I gave it in college. I haven’t bought clothes in over a year.
.
.
Dave taught me to live on less than I make and to really think about needs vs wants. The turning point was when I wrote down exactly what my goals were on paper. There’s something magical in that process. With the ability to travel for free, there’s been some REALLY tempting vacations, but I wanted to live like no one else then so that I can live like no one else later. .
.
And, now...I can. I’m typing this while on my way to the land of my ancestors: Ireland 🇮🇪 Thank you, Lord! 🙌🏽 🗣 I’M DEBT FREEEEEE!
Next up, Baby Step 4!

.. God really doesn't have much good to say about debt in the Scriptures, and now I see why! It's so hard to see how bad debt is until you actually strive to PAY IT OFF. When debt begins, it's all very illusive. It feels like monopoly money. It doesn't feel real, and you don't really feel the pain, until you lose huge chunks of your hard-earned money each month. It doesn't feel real until you can't be as generous as you'd like. It doesn't feel real until you can't save as much as you should. .
..
.
I don't share this to boast or brag. I only share this to say if you set out to be a good steward with the money God has given you, by His grace YOU CAN. Paul and I didn't get debt free because we were perfect, we got debt free because we never stopped trying. We had months when we didn't stick to the budget like we should've, but we tried to get back on track the next. .
..
.
Thank you, @daveramsey, for helping give people practical counsel on how to be wise with finances. Thank you, Paul Raiche, for your financial leadership in our home. Thank You, Jesus, for calling us to a higher standard of how to deal with money, and for not leaving us without truth to guide us.

  • WOW. So proud of you two!

WE DID IT! WE ARE DEBT FREE! 👏🏻💵 I am so excited to share our story. Bare with me, it will be lengthy!

A little over two years ago we started our debt free journey. Our debt was mainly my student loans, totaling around $51,000. We did Financial Peace University at home and immediately jumped into stork mode, as I was around 6 months pregnant with our daughter. FPU ignited our spark to change our bad habits and make sure our children will never have to deal with the stress of student loan debt. We decided our ultimate goal was to be debt free by our daughters 2nd Birthday. We saved and saved until we got our first medical bill from the hospital from our daughter’s birth (which was about 8 months) and we paid cash for her entire birth bill. We then took the remainder of our savings and threw it at our debt. October 2017 is when we declared the official start of our debt free journey. From there we budgeted, planned, sacrificed, and worked our butts off to throw as much as we could at debt each month. My husband worked overtime whenever he could, I started a small side hustle selling for an MLM, and I worked summer school for extra income. We did everything we could to tackle our debt as fast as we could to meet that goal.

Well I am so proud to announce that we made our final debt payment this morning - the exact date our sweet daughter turns two years old. We both set our alarms for 5:00am, turned over in bed and made our last payment with tears of relief in our eyes. We have paid off $51,000 in 18 months!

My eyes are filled with tears as I know my children will never have to feel the overwhelming weight of a student loan. It feels incredible. I can’t wait to start Baby Step 3! Thank you @daveramsey and @rachelcruze for inspiring us to change our family tree. You have forever changed our lives.
