Before coming to Guinea, I wouldn't have been able to quantify the water I use in a day. Now, not only can I tell you exactly how much water I use for each water-related task, I know intimately how heavy that water is because I carry it to my house every day.

In more developed countries, #worldwaterday isn't a big deal because we don't think about water as a resource-it's always there when we need it. But this isn't the case in most of the world. One fact (of many) that impacts my community every day, did you know 1 in 4 primary schools in the world have no drinking water service? Some of my students have to walk over 10 kilometers to get to school, and when they arrive there's no water to drink. Maybe nobody filled up the bucket, or maybe the pump is dry because it's the dry season but either way can you imagine focusing on your education in that case?
A few other water usage facts: Globally 80% of the people who have to use unsafe water sources live in rural areas. Females are responsible for water collection in 80% of households with water off premises. Don't take your access to safe water for granted.
