Ya’ll, we had wayyyyy to much fun figuring out how to take a picture “holding” the bean. Our fits of laughter caused quite a delightful scene. I lived in Chicago over a decade ago. In fact, The Bean had barely finished construction when I arrived. Today me and my momma revisited the city which was once my college hometown and experienced one of the best days we’ve had together in a while. (love you @grandmashe).
The real reason I’m here is to speak at @thechicagocouncil’s Women, Equity, and Global Development Symposium on September 17th. The panel is titled “The Future Is Ours” and I’m pretty pumped about this one. Tickets are sold out but you CAN stream it live. Project Runway used to be my favoriteeee show back in the day (it was everyone’s right? - also holy shit 15 years ago) and my younger self wanted to binge the reboot. I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with a designer, but then Hester started whipping out all kinds of wild funky designs and I was like yes please. Then we find out Hester is queer with a cute spouse named Honey and I was like yes yes please! And thennn Hester was in the top three and I squealed out loud and slid into the DM’s to get a piece to wear.
This post is actually about our fitting. It’s subtle, but usually i find myself worrying during fittings about body hair comments and everything zipping up the way it should. To be honest, I don’t know that I would have even pinned i have these feelings until I noticed their absence in my fitting with hester. It was really special to be dressed by a queer feminine energy that appreciated me exactly as I am. So I don’t know who is reading this and fits that bill, but just so you know there are people like me out there who are very ready for you so keep going.

NEW YORK CITY!!!! I’m teaching a live class on September 29th for one of the best events ever, Dare to Bare, benefitting the @movemeant foundation. If you don’t know about this event - you should. It’s pretty much the lollapalooza of fitness – only everyone dons complimentary sports bras, lets their skin out, leaves their judgements at the door and encourages each other through movement. Top instructors teach classes throughout the day and your money supports the @movemeant foundation (they create body-positive middle school curriculums - among other amazing programs)
It’s a massive event and I’ve been wanting to teach at it for years so toot toot let’s do it!!! Here’s the details:

Today is #internationaldogday and this is the only kind of content I want on my feed for the next 24 hours!! 🐕 I rescued Papa from @spcatexas 7 years ago. He was a tiny little puppy, with the same size ears, trembling in the lost and found. I visited him every day for a week until he was released for adoption and never looked back. Another great rescue organization is @socialteesnyc for those considering adding a fur baby to their life.
This is a post about posting pressure lol. I see a lot of apologies on Instagram, “sorry everyone - I haven’t been able to post lately..” and I get it. Actually anyone with a following or trying to build a following knows this pressure all too well.
This year, I’ve pulled back from Instagram. You all actually helped me with this after I shared a story of how a private message made me really upset. Since then, I turned off all notifications. I only post when I feel like it. I only post things I care about. I read most DM’s but I don’t respond the way I used to - this part is hard for me but helpful. And when I read comments and messages it’s at a dedicated time. I do still solely run @thebecomeproject, but that’s my biz and my way to connect with clients.
I didn’t realize how much these practices where helping until I noticed how much easier it is for me to go five days without posting, or toss off an annoying story response. Instagram feels more chill / less important than before and it’s a really nice feeling.
Don’t be confused by this message, I’m not saying everyone should be posting less. But i am saying we should be posting for our enjoyment / purpose / cause instead of obligation. You may not conquer the algorithm, and your following may build a little slower; but you will create a more authentic social media space while simultaneously protecting your sanity.
I made up a new routine for @thebecomeproject during my time upstate (my best ones are always created in the front lawn) and this is the warm up. I’m very into this one because it works a lot of things at once. Sure the arms at the beginning are fun, but they are also great for shoulder mobility. The heel pop preps the ankles for the lunge series that follows, and in each forward fold the hamstring actively stretches.
There are three different versions of this up for grabs, depending on what your body needs.
Round 1: lifted heels throughout, lots of attention to balance.
Round 2: heels lift only in standing position, alignment meets balance.
Round 3: mostly grounded heels, alignment focused, PERFECT for knee aliments.
