[Prince, Nov 25, 2011] "When you ask someone about a concert that changed their life, they’ll usually talk about something they saw when they were 12 or 15 that they’d never seen before. In 2011 I was 28 years old. Already jaded, already convinced I’d “seen it all,” yet I knew there was still one show I hadn’t seen. Prince. Already known for his legendary performances for decades, it was time to see it for myself. When I saw Prince he played two nights in Toronto and I went to both. But it was the first night that really had an impact on me. I’d never seen a band so tight but so loose. They could turn on a dime. Sure they had a setlist but I was pretty sure that was being ignored early on. Prince would call instruction to his band and they’d nail it every time. He had charm, humor, sensitivity, spontaneity and musicianship. Not to mention the show was over 3 hours long. And I couldn’t look away for a second. For one of the seven (!) encores he had Maceo Parker come out and play what felt like a 10 min saxophone solo for the intro of Purple Rain before Prince even got back onstage. And when he did he made this speech about togetherness that was most definitely felt by everyone in the arena. We partied, we laughed, we cried and we, yes all 20,000 of us in attendance, were brought together. It’s everything I look for in a concert and it showed me as a performer what’s possible when you hit the stage. And somehow he did it all again the next night but with a completely different setlist!" ⚡⚡#prince #toronto

  • Sometimes you hear other people perform songs by a particular songwriter and all it does is shine a light on how good these songs are. Next level, handed down from the gods kind of good. Her lyrics and music are among the greatest art ever created by a human. If you haven’t heard the Joni 75 album yet it’s very good. Great heartfelt performances. Performing songs that will live and resonate forever.
