  • The 10 point plan for self determination constructed by Chairman Huey P. Newton still applies to the issues we face today as people of color. What the panthers did in the 60’s like most effective organizations of resistance, is made sure that the demands were clear, that the leadership met consistently, strategized, and constantly organized more people to get involved in the movement.

Will you be a member of the movement or will you sit around and watch it happen?

Please join Healthy Hood for the second event of the COMMUNITY DEFENSE series with Chicago black panthers Rev. Slim Coleman and co-founder Bobby Seal’s bodyguard Stan McKinney as they brief us on strategy, outreach, survival programs and community self defense preparation. This Saturday, 8.24.19 at 1pm at The Black Panther Museum inside of the Westside Justice Center 601 S California

All power to the people!

  • The first event of @healthyhoodchi’s #communitydefense series was INSPIRING! Huge thank you to Brown Beret co-founder Carlos Montes for making the trip down here from LA to give us some insight, strategy and guidance in our efforts to begin and assemble a leadership of freedom fighters here in Chicago. I am certain that the folks you see in these pics are serious about growing this foundation, among the attendees were single mothers, teens, educators, law students, medical students, artists, photographers, community leaders even an accountant! We have more than enough talent in our community to make a change and to defend our community, the question is will you be at the next one?

Head to @healthyhoodchi’s bio to sign up for the next community defense event, Saturday with Chicago Black Panthers at the Black Panther Museum located at the @westside_justice_center at 1pm!

Refreshments and snacks provided! See you there! As Carlos would say, “Viva la revolución!” Special thanks to la Jefa @delilah1st of @vaultgallerie for allowing us to use her beautiful gallery to host our first gathering! You are a badass with the biggest heart for your pueblo, te amo mujer!

  • I am excited to announce @healthyhoodchi’s newest event series titled “COMMUNITY DEFENSE” a series of know your rights/power workshops and lectures from past revolutionaries. El Paso reminds us again that the machinery of government is aimed at us and white nationalist militants are ready to attack. This series brings the experience of past community defense efforts: what worked, what didn’t work and what will work today to defend our communities. Every Saturday, in different locations around the city, we will hear from the great leaders of our history in this country.
Swipe for more info ————> Our first leader is Carlos Montes, a member of the Brown Berets all the way from Los Angeles, California.

If you see the urgency and SEVERITY of our times, prioritize this, accommodate your schedule, show up. No one is coming to save us from what is approaching, we must be ready to defend ourselves.

  • In my dreams there would be gardens wherever there was vacant space, gardens, greenhouses, small farms where we cared for our plants, spent time with them, watered them and picked them. I wish we’d learn to give back to the earth that houses us, how to be grateful and appreciative for everything that it supplies for us, I wish we’d teach our kids differently than we were taught so that they live healthier and happier lives.

For my Api, to be able to pick strawberries she saw grow, helped water, and weed the earth around them is so much more meaningful than eating some from a plastic container from the store. It’s such an amazing sight to see my baby be so happy!

  • If it wasn’t for dance right now I’d be in a pretty anxiety ridden space atm. Grateful, especially for the community I’ve built around it. Thank you for coming through every week y’all, I get to do what makes me happy because of it 🙏🏽 👕 : @hai_ey

  • We CHOOSE to be in the communities that are lacking in resources, the communities suffering from neglect, the communities that fall victim to systemic inequality. We choose to serve the most marginalized and oppressed of our people. What we didn’t know is how much we’d learn. How much we’d come to understand that despite the incredibly disproportionate obstacles these communities face, they remain just that, a community.
Right now, the one thing we all have in common here, and more in these marginalized communities specifically, is the ability to unite in the understanding that it does not matter how brown you are, what brown lineage you come from, how successful you have moved up in a capitalistic country, we are ALL responsible to defend our communities from the danger that has begun and that is approaching.
I beg of the POC’s that are far removed from these communities to not give in to the distraction of picking at each other and finding small ways to divide ourselves, I beg of y’all to remember that the most marginalized of us are suffering so much that the terms “micro aggressions” and “culture appropriation” do not exist in their vocabulary. Remember who you are NOW, because the enemy has never forgotten. Only TOGETHER will we live to see the miracle beyond the storm.

Healthy Hood Hermosa coming soon...

  • It is a liberating feeling to not depend on others for happiness. Find your purpose, apply your passion, and live in truth. Happiness will follow.
I often say to myself, but feel the need to say publicly. @christinawilborn_ has been an angel to my life and family. Never once has she pressured or insisted I come with her to church but always offered. And to be honest, it wasn’t an epiphany that finally made me go but it was her love. Her love was one that felt like a true reflection of something bigger. I had lost a lot of faith through my (very long) season of experiencing something clearly of this world and not of god and my relationship with her assured me that love still existed. Thank you for your friendship Christina, thank you for helping me find myself again, thank you for bringing me back to god and thank you for loving me. Through your love I found my way to happiness and I am forever grateful to you for that. Cuz it feels soooooo gooood ❤️
