Yoga with Cathy Madeo: Today I’m headed to the studio to make video content for This is the first time I’ve hosted a beginner yoga challenge on IG! Pictured here is not a foundational pose, but I could not do this without applying foundational principles in down dog, balancing and binds. Foundation is the cornerstone of any strong practice! My niche is making challenging poses, like handstands and arm balances - accessible to students of all levels, but as a yoga teacher of 15 years and a teacher of teachers leading 200 Hour YTTs, I’m excited to share some alignment tips of the foundational yoga poses. I’ll be sharing the kinds of nuggets that you’d find in my 200 hour training🤗

  • 認識ELLIE的人都知道我本身不是一個柔軟的,而是一直透過正確的練習方法,一步一步地打開身體各部分。柔軟度對身體健康有很密切的關係,而且對練習瑜伽或其他運動如鋼管舞也有很大的幫助。

工作坊會教導同學學習安全而有效的方法並利用自己身體條件去改善柔軟度、靈活性和ROM (Range of Movement)。最重要時我們要無時無刻傾聽身體的需要和感覺,慢慢來,不要心急喔!

適合對象:
- 適合有恆常伸展習慣達半年,並希望有進一步突破的您。
- 希望學習安全而有效伸展方法的您。
- 在瑜伽路上被柔軟度限制了的您。

內容:
1️⃣:伸展前概念介紹
1. 介紹熱身(肌肉)和肌肉強化對伸展的重要性。
2. 介紹身體各部分的熱身方法。
3. 工具正確和有效的使用方法 (瑜伽磚,瑜伽繩,牆......)
4. Awareness (意識/意念)和呼吸在伸展時的重要性。

2️⃣:伸展前身體的準備
1. 討論相關的身體部位剖析。
2. 探討不同的身體結構於同一動作中的形態。
3. 上、下半身肌肉強化。

3️⃣:進入下半身伸展
1. 一字碼:利用不同的方法去伸展膕繩肌,亦會配合 PNF (本體感受神經肌肉性促進法);同時亦會加深伸展大部人忽略了的髖屈肌。大字馬,一字馬,跨位及臀部)
2. 大字碼:正式進入大字馬前的伸展準備;配合Partner形式去輔助伸展。
3. 髖關節不同部位的伸展方法。

4️⃣:進入上半身伸展
1. 健康的後變是先由肩、胸、髖所組成,而不是使用下腰椎。
2. 練習打開肩胛和胸椎的不同方法,減少下腰受壓而產生疼痛。
3. 以前臂拱橋及拱橋去加深肩和胸椎的伸展,並且學習其變化。

5️⃣:上下半身柔軟度的關係
1. 無論基礎至蛇式 (Cobra),還是進階度到全舞王式 (Full King Dancer),所需求的都不但只是一部份的柔軟度,而且整體的和力量的配合。
2. 不同柔軟度式子的探討。
3. 怎樣把跌下變成一個反射動作。
4. 後彎後的正確COOL DOWN動作,以保持脊椎健康和均衡發展。

  • I will always always be a student of yoga first 🙏🏻🧘🏻‍♀️for me it is a lifelong practice of learning about myself and my body. It was never easy for me to sit in a full lotus and then one day it just happened more easily and I could suddenly press into my hands and lift my legs in an arm balance but it’s taken many years of a dedicated yoga practice, getting to know my body, progressing, having a car accident and injuring my shoulder, accepting that, starting again from the beginning and progressing all over again 🙃 ...but that’s the beauty of this practice, suddenly it can surprise you and it teaches you a lot... just like a lot of things in life it needs commitment and patience and I will always be learning 🙏🏻✨ .

Inhale, fold your leg into lotus, bring your feet as high up on thigh as possible. Push knee close together.

Exhale, slip hand through space between thighs and calves so that arms are through legs up to elbows. Bend arms and place hands in prayers Infront of chest or place chin in palms of hands.

Inhale, rock and roll, roll back and forward in a full circle, backwards on the exhale and forwards on the Inhale. Repeat round x9.

Drishti : straight ahead.
Hold either cross leg into chest or just bend the knees and bring knees to chest, then rock and roll around in circle.

It relaxes the whole spine, especially the muscles of the lumbar spine.

Helpful for abdominal cramps and strengthens all abdominal muscles.

It cleans and tones the liver and spleen and strengthens the uterus and rectum.

It activates the first three chakras.

Very effective in opening the hip joints even further making your lotus more comfortable.

The abdomen remains shapely and slim due to total contraction during the posture.

The digestive system of the body improves due to the regular practice of this posture It also treats all kinds of stomach illnesses.

죄송하다고 못봤다고 잘못 들어온 차 피하다가 그랬다고 먼저 얘기 했는데😭😭 젊은것들 사과를 안한다고 말 우기면 다라시며
녹음기를 들고다녀야 한다시는데...

What happened?? 🤣🤣
It’s crazy how much cuter Waffles is without hair covering his eyes - he actually JUST got groomed last week right before we left for Miami and his eye hairs grow out so much faster than the rest of his body. We took some scissors yesterday and fixed it up - what do y’all think?? Better than spending $100 every grooming session for sure! 😆

On a related note, my skin has never felt smoother or younger either with the DIY moisturizer I’ve been making with yarrow/pom, frankincense, melaleuca, lavender, and argan oil 😍 DM me for deets! I’ll also share the recipe later in my stories 🙌🏼 PS: Yarrow Pom is called the Benjamin Button essential oil 😘😘

my energy changes...
I bring my awareness to the light...
and the darkness
now seems beneath me...
I open to the beauty all around me 🙌
and it opens to me...
even more than that...
it somehow unfolds within me
and reveals itself
as part of my deepest layers...
wow...I am a part of all of this...
and I don’t even understand all of this...
but I am a part of all of this...
and so as this journey continues...
I find myself more and more in awe
of the beauty of life...
I find myself looking around
with the eyes of a child
staring and smiling in wonder...
and then I catch the eye of a stranger
and they smile back at me...
and for a moment
we enjoy just being here...together... ✨
