  • I love rainy days for deeply reflecting... perhaps the Scorpio in me. This is the only card that fell out twice in a row in my meditation today & we happen to be in the Shadow of the Blue Full Moon 🌕 .

“Believe in the impossible” Becoming a Mother has been deeply transformational for me on many levels, as I know it is for many. I know far more than I can perceive is changing and in incredible ways ✨ While it may be my job to help this little soul incarnate, so she can experience her life to the fullest here on Earth, she has done the same for me. We are all here to help each other’s souls gain the experiences we desire to evolve... but as spiritual beings, we need to honour this aspect by taking time to reconnect with ourselves, in order to be fully present with ourselves and others.

Through a moment of silence and breath we can easily reconnect to ourselves - anyone, even & especially children need this. Create a habit of this by finding something you do a few times a day and pair it with a time to breathe and feel into your body. I often suggest when you go to the washroom. Before long you will be meditating several times a day ✨

  • Your spinal health is 🔑 to your wellbeing! 
Your body functions best when your spinal segments are balanced and in neutral alignment. Nerves are unobstructed, blood flows more efficiently - so your muscles can do what they do best!

In contrast, poor posture and spinal health can contribute to diminished performance, increased levels of fatigue and put you at higher risk for injury. This is particularly common if you spend long hours in aero position on your bike, put in big running miles (especially downhill or on pavement) or work long hours at a desk. Here’s a quick and easy 3 minute fix to support your spinal health - Spinal Flex 💪❤️ Sit on your heels. If this is too much for your knees or ankles place a cushion or block between your legs.
Place your hands on your thighs.
Inhale as you flex your spine forward (In other words, stick your butt and chest OUT)
Exhale as you arch your back like a cat. Roll your shoulders in and tuck your pelvis. 
Keep your head in alignment with the rest of your spine. Only your spine is moving. 
Close your eyes. And bring your awareness to the point between your eyebrows. It’ll help to keep you focused on your right now experience.

Relax and breathe full deep breaths with each movement. 
This is one of my personal faves. Enjoy!

  • ⭐️Sirsasana ⭐️ Sirsasana is a headstand which is also a mudra. Although there are 7 different headstands in Ashtanga’s second or intermediate series, for this post we’re focusing on the last headstand, found in the closing sequence of every series. 📿

In a conference, a few years ago, Sharath Jois (paramguru of the Ashtanga lineage and head of KPJAYI) said that the final headstand is ideally held for 15 minutes. In the “Hatha Yoga Pradipika,” we see this act of inverting as a mudra. As the “King of Asanas🤴🏼,” we practice this asana as one of the final acts of our practice. Throughout our time on our mat, leading up to this point, we’ve made our body nice and hot. We’ve opened our many nadis, creating a free flowing energy. At the very end, we’re allowing all that energy to drip down the spine (or Sushumna Nadi as spoken about in a prior post), bring more awareness to ourselves and changing ourselves practice by practice. 📿

People who have been given a sheet of exercises or home exercises to do after they have suffered an injury. There are many issues with this, but one of the main issues is that unless someone is intrinsically motivated to do any type of exercise - they won’t do it! 🧠📉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • (NOTE: Video sped up slightly). Endurance runners might have heard the phrase “run slow to go fast”. The idea is to train your cardiovascular system to become stronger & efficient by running at a heart rate that is lower zone (sometimes referred to as Z2) and sustainable for longer distances. Then, after the cardio becomes stronger, you should be able to increase your running pace while maintaining a heart rate in a sustainable zone. 🏃🏻‍♀️ ... You can practice the same principle in yoga. Instead of moving right into the full expression of the posture, you might try using your breath to grow into it. 🧘🏻‍♂️ ... 1. Here, in bridge pose, begin by lifting the chest & arching the back on an inhale then just flattening the back down on the out-breath 3x. 
2. On the 4th inhale, arch the back & life the heart. On the exhale lift the hips up only 3-4 inches off on the mat. Stay here, then inhale & reach the sternum towards your chin. Don’t move the chin towards the chest. Exhale and lower down one vertebrae at a time. 
3. Continue in this pattern raising the hips a little higher each time, until you reach your full range of motion. 
#bridgepose helps to strengthen the muscles around the back and glutes. #yogaforathletes

  • We’ve found ourselves on the Pilgrims route as folk make their way through northern Europe towards Santiago.
There is a quiet humility in travelling slowly to pay homage, and it is only those who are prepared to journey too far who learn how far they can truly go.
There is a lovely expansion of time when all you have to do is turn the peddles & notice the vistas pass. Fields of crops, the sound of frogs, a circus, fishermen and borders of irises beside stone walls. A simplicity is becoming tangible.
Currently very grateful for chamois cream. Rather than tired legs, it’s a sore butt that is curtailing the day.

  • ⁉️TIGHT HIP FLEXORS⁉️ TRY THIS...

You’ve probably seen a ton of information about how to RELEASE the psoas, one of our primary hip flexors. 👊🏼
.
It is one of the core muscles, if restricted...can pull us into an anterior tilt and increase low back compression. ❌
.
Which is exactly what tends to happen after we’ve been sitting for a low period of time. 😐
.
While passive releasing is great...if you want the results to last, you have to begin training that muscle in the lengthened position. 👌🏼
.
So here are my favorite exercises to do so. You can integrate easily into your yoga practice or for a quick break at work. ✅

  • ⁉️TIGHT HIP FLEXORS⁉️ TRY THIS...
    .
    You’ve probably seen a ton of information about how to RELEASE the psoas, one of our primary hip flexors. 👊🏼
    .
    It is one of the core muscles, if restricted...can pull us into an anterior tilt and increase low back compression. ❌
    .
    Which is exactly what tends to happen after we’ve been sitting for a low period of time. 😐
    .
    While passive releasing is great...if you want the results to last, you have to begin training that muscle in the lengthened position. 👌🏼
    .
    So here are my favorite exercises to do so. You can integrate easily into your yoga practice or for a quick break at work. ✅

  • ⁉️ WHAT ARE THE BEST FOODS FOR HEALING ⁉️

When I was in high school I lived off ramen noodles, bacon cheeseburgers, and Dr. Pepper 🤗
.
Then I tore my ACL and immediately gained 15 pounds because I couldn’t exercise.
.
Cue emotional teenage breakdown and nutrition obsession so I could fit into my prom dress by Spring. 💃
.
I read everything I could on nutrition purely so I could look good and get the competitive edge for sports.
.
But when I returned back to my normal size and started competing again. I noticed the biggest difference in my mood and emotional stability. 🙏🏼
.
Since then, it’s been a regular process for me to research and experiment the best foods for healing myself.
.
And I’ve found the best results with an 85% (I like tacos & chocolate 🤷‍♀️)...plant based/whole foods lifestyle.
.
Meaning no gluten, no dairy, no sugar, no meat...fish & eggs only. Eating fruits & veggies raw most of the time.
.
And I can confidently say...I’m pain free and I’ve never felt better emotionally & physically! 🦋
.

Two years ago I was at one of my lowest points, ever. But I had this vision. I had this vision of being this girl who woke up every morning feeling strong and like she could do anything she set her mind too. I had this vision, and a whole list of goals to go along with it. Last night I for sure ugly cried, because I’m closer than I’ve ever been to that vision 😭 .

  • your life is as good as your mindset 🥳 if you’ve been around for awhile you know Hails is historically a major #flightrisk ✈️ and I realized today I haven’t had the urge to run away in a loooong time. The past 6 months I’ve honestly been so fricking happy in my life here, I feel none of my usual desire to get on the next plane headed south 😂 I know I say this a lot, but I seriously changed my entire life by changing my mindset. You can roll your eyes and call me cheesy all you want (I used to do it to - it’s okay). But the best health / wellness / life tip I truly can give you is really just to focus on having a mind full of gratitude and courage . Trust me 🤗🥂 .

  • I am a strong woman because I was raised and supported by strong women my whole life.

Thank you Mom, Susan, Stephanie, Fernanda, my grandmothers, aunts, FRIENDS, mentors, teachers, coworkers, nieces and students. You make me stronger every day.

On Sunday at 9:30am @solshineyoganb I will be teaching a class with all proceeds going to The Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts.

It is a Yoga for Athlete's style class (you don’t need to be an athlete to join) that includes a stretching sequence to support your athletics and your life.  Improve recovery time, prevent injury and prepare your mind and body.  This class will incorporate muscle release techniques, poses for flexibility, strength and recovery. .💃🏼The Women's Fund of Southeastern MA raises funds and takes collaborative action to build pathways to economic independence for all women in the region. Our mission is to advance the educational attainment and economic security of women and girls in Southeastern Massachusetts.

Our goal is to increase the percentage of women in the region who earn a living wage.

The Women’s Fund convenes key partners to explore and develop solutions, then incubates and invests in these strategies to promote economic independence for all women, especially economic mobility for low-income women.
