  • Did you know September is women's friendship month?! We all need a friend that is in our corner , will meet us for absurdly early morning runs, let us vent, rant & ramble without judgement, make us laugh, understands that sometimes we need to cancel plans simply because we constantly stretch ourselves thin, knows that even though we can be really bad at responding to messages we're not ignoring each other & then the icing on the cake is when your kids and husbands are all also friends !!! @mmariecallahan is that person for me 💓👯
at this point in my life , with motherhood, work, school, balancing life.... Friendships for me, need to be low maintenance.
Low maintenance definitely does not mean low quality or less importance.
It just means that our friendship flows without a lot of stress and work. Family & raising our ( insanely adorable) babies comes first & it's not practical to see each other everyday , constantly talk, go out every weekend etc . & A friend that gets that, is gold. A friend isn't really a friend if they aren't constantly cheering you on, pushing you, understanding your needs or if they try to make you feel guilty or bad about yourself. ✨
What does friendship look like for you?! What's most important in a friend for you right now? ✨
Also, to celebrate women's friendship month you can get ANYTHING on Fré website buy one get one FREE with code MILES1.... But only for 24 hours !!!!

  • Well it’s that time of year again. The time to obsessively check the weather each night for the following morning’s run so you’re not looking like an idiot running in shorts and a tank top in real feel temps of 52 degrees. And it’s your easy run so you’re supposed to be taking it easy but you’re so cold you have to push the pace hoping against all hope you warm up but that wind chill makes it so you don’t actually feel comfortable until mile 4 then it’s time for strides so you push the strides faster than you should have because you’re starting to cool off again and you accidentally ran through a sprinkler so now you’re wet and cold. Spoiler alert. This was today 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
.
On the plus side I manage to finally finish a 5 mile run in under and hour 🤣😂 .

  • Mid-week long run done👌
.
In amongst the busyness of life, I really enjoy getting out on my own, just trotting along with nothing but my own thoughts 💭 I always return so much calmer and relaxed 😌
.
After a good run, that mountain of washing to fold, sink full of dishes to wash, kids to wrangle and work to catch up on just doesn’t seem quite so bad.

  • Today’s feels: overwhelmed THIS MUCH.

But overwhelmed with all good things.

Next week, this Berlin marathon is taking me far (literally far) out of my comfort zone.

The pace. The city. The continent.

I’m also overwhelmed with gratitude. I can’t put into words how grateful I am to even be able to say this is an experience I get to have.

And you know what, I’m really proud of myself. And I won’t tone that down.

Every single person reading this is working on something great in their lives. Don’t be afraid to share that! Don’t be afraid to let what fuels you shine.

Don’t let your fear of what anyone else might think tone YOU down. If you’re excited, JUMP. If you feel good, SAY IT. If you are feeling good, let that energy GLOW.

  • Practicing the art of the RECOVERY run this morning. The idea for me being to help muscle recovery by increasing blood flow to my tired legs (although there’s loads of other reasons as well..). I did 4 miles @ 10 min mile pace. I’m trying to step up my mileage this week so this was more than welcome. .

In general I’m TERRIBLE at recovery runs. Anyone else? It’s always tempting to go at more of a tempo pace (naturally competitive!) - and with apps like strava sometimes it feels like an added pressure to go quicker because you feel like people are watching 👀and judging your run. In reality I’m pretty sure no one gives a monkey’s. Neither should we. so why do we put this pressure on ourselves?
.
Any tips on how people keep their recovery runs slow? Leaving the garmin at home is a no go for me 😂. #runchat #ukrunchat #runningmum #runmummyrun #womensrunningcommunity #marathontraining #manchestermarathon2020 #instarun

  • Itchen Bridge - still cannot believe that I ran over this 4 times during The Southampton Marathon! 😱 Although coming up through Portswood at the end of each lap wasn’t exactly flat either 😂.
.
Just snapped this from the train as I head into the office as it’s always a nice reminder of what I achieved back in May 💪🏻.

  • 40 seconds on, 20 seconds off repeat for 15 minutes and you'll find yourself a sweaty mess on the floor but with a big smile on your face 😅
.
Have I mentioned I'm a BIG fan of HIIT training?! 😂. I know I go on about it a lot of the time but I really do love these kind of workouts and they are definitely a morning game changer. Getting out of bed this morning I felt tired and a little achy, fast forward after 15 mins with my good friend @thebodycoach (I follow the videos on YouTube) and I feel amazing, motivated and ready for the day! What's not to love.
.
Who else is part of team love HIIT? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

To finally get the 10K PB I have been after for SO long was an amazing feeling, but to do it in the iconic @kewgardens - somewhere that holds a lot of personal significance for me - made it all the more special 💖

  • I was truly in my happy place on this morning's run 😍. Four smiley, sunny, slightly windswept miles where everything just felt great (even the achilles!!)
.
Running definitely doesn't always feel great, but having to back off over the last few weeks has shown me how much I love it. I really have missed being out there chasing those goals!
.
So from now on it's all about embracing each run. The good runs, the bad runs, the sunny runs and the chilly runs to come and tackling each one with a big smile on my face! (You can hold me to this when I'm peak marathon training in the freezing cold and I'm moaning every step of the way 😬❄️)
.
But for now I'm happy being back out there doing the thing I love. Please stick around for a little bit longer though Mr Sunshine 🤞☀️

  • Fall marathon season is here! I’m not racing a full this fall but I love seeing everyone finishing training cycles and embracing the taper 🙌🏻 I learned a lot as a first time marathoner at @grandmasmarathon and here are my top 5 pieces of advice!
.
➡️Take extra layers: We made a late night Walmart trip & I’m so glad we did. The mornings are cooler and you’ll be so thankful to be warm pre-race.
.
➡️Stick to your plan: Pacers always go out too fast and so many people follow. You came in with a race strategy (I hope 🤞🏼) so stick with it. Trust me!
.
➡️Run a simulator: Yep, it’s intimidating. I practiced everything from a pre-race dinner at a restaurant I knew was near the race so my body knew what it would be working with. I went into race day a little more calm having practiced everything to start by 7:45 - wake-up, breakfast, “sitting on a bus”, etc.
.
➡️Thank EVERYONE: The marathon will get hard but I thanked anyone who handed me water, picked up a cup or policed a road. They are they supporting us and it lightened my mood too!
.
➡️Embrace it: There truly is nothing like your first marathon. Months or years of training lead to to 26.2 miles that will be over in hours. Enjoy the experience, learn from it and get ready for another! .
Do you have any advice for a first-time marathoner this fall? 👇🏼

Tips & tricks not only for #rookierunner every Wednesday
.
I talked to @jan.fitschen today about his @laufen_ist_einfach project & what you need to start running AND because I will start from below scratch in 2 weeks, here‘s the essentials:
.
1. ALL YOU NEED
is good running shoes & socks! No other fancy shit, you just don’t need it. Wear some sports shirt/hoodie & shorts, track the run with your mobile phone if you like or just with an ordinary watch. That‘s it.👟
.
2. SLOW & SEXY
Start sloooowly, like really slowly - with changes between jogging & walking! Don’t overdo it & don’t get too exhausted! Small little runs are the best way to start & to stay motivated.
And don’t forget to clap for yourself every time you did it! Superhero!🙌🏼🎉
.
➡️It‘s so easy, just lace up your shoes, get your sexy ass up & run!🚀

•
5 sets of 10 of my bi superset
Side curls
Db curls
Hammer curls
Plank walk out to push up
•
Just a little note to all women..I’ve had some messages regarding weightlifting. Please don’t be afraid to lift..you won’t look like a man..you won’t bulk. You will get stronger, leaner, and speed up your metabolism. You’ll surprise yourself at how much better you’ll feel..if you’re a runner, weight training in areas can support that. You don’t have to bench press 100’s of lbs..I’ve only worked with dumbbells up to 40 lbs. since I started and have been quite happy with where that has taken me. Somedays, I only use body weight to train. Regardless of your preference, don’t be afraid to lift. Strong women are beautiful ♥️
Now on to my usual episode of icing, and anti inflammatory meds for the day..🤷🏼‍♀️

Today's run was solid and I am thrilled to have a little power back in my step! MAN, I don't wanna be redundant about my Dr telling me I had MONO, but it just feels SO good to be feeling myself and feeling CAPABLE again with running -- I've got a lot of work to do to get where I wanna go, but I'm READY and excited for the journey! Let's do this🔥
...
Had a 20 minute tempo on my calendar today - hit the tready, and got to it. 10 minutes at 7:08pace and was feeling so good! 1 minute hard at 6:31 ... I definitely felt it, but I was loving the power in my step and was hungry for more. Bumped the tready back to 7:08 and spent the last 9 minutes working my way back down to 6:31, minute by minute. 20 minutes (2.87miles) in 6:58 pace. It was definitely faster than my true tempo pace - but y'all - I just feel SO good!!
...
K, that's all!! Happy Tuesday😘

  • Hey 👋🏻 .

So kind of fell off the side of the earth, days lost with the mother of all colds, and a sickness bug to boot. The joys of having an autoimmune disease like #type1diabetes And being pregnant too, makes you slightly more susceptible to these little menaces 🙄
.

Today I managed to make it out into the sunshine, and walk both sides of the school run, and boy did it feel good! 🙌🏼 although strangely exhausting, for what would normally be just a dent in my daily activities 😂
.

And one thing I have discovered with the enforced pit of nothing but sleep and, more strangely for me, social media absence? It does the world of good. It’s ok to take a break and just do you for a while ❤️
.

Happy Wednesday you lovely lot! Here’s to breaking the back of that horrible combo, and to all you awesome superstars who checked in to see if I was ok. Thank you 😍
