  • Something about eating a yellow curry dish that makes me feel as if I am on a holiday. For this, I used cubed beef, which I chucked into the instant pot for 10 minutes or so to make it tender and so it wont take to long on the stove. If you choose not to pull out the instant pot, just cut the beef into smaller size. ⁠

Recently, when I visited Thailand , I had this dish served with vermicelli. The curry was far less complicated than mine as the yellow curry only had chicken and eggplant. Yet, it was hell delicious!⁠

Kita masak lemak ni pakai ketulan daging besar, nak kasi lembut, bagi masuk dalam pressure cooker untuk sepuloh minit. Iyolah, daging kita daging Australia youuu. Kalau pakai daging tempatan yang bukan hak batang pinang, Tunggulah dalam pressure cooker tu 15 ke 20 minit. Tapi jangan kasi hancur pulak! (macam kita ni sekali buat rendang daging pakai menatang tu, terover dalam pressure cooker sampai hambik kau hancur dagin, dari ngrondang nogori jadi pulled beef pulak)⁠

Kalau jumpa benda ni kat Thailand, salunya makan dengan mihun. Mihun dia lembut je tak keras cam mihun kita. Kalau orang kita agaknya cakap makan dengan putu mayam 😝. Tapi dia buh ayam dengan terung cinonet Thai tu. Sedap youuu⁠

  • Thai yellow curry or kaeng lueang does not often appear in our dinner repertoire, but when it does the household goes "how come we don't have this more often?". ⁠

The yellow curry is not hard to make - I use a Thai brand paste to get the taste to be as authentic as possible. I also don't saute the paste in oil. My method of cooking is one I learned⁠
from watching other Thai cooks. To be honest, I prefer it this way. ⁠
⁠
Do you know that while there are many variety of yellow curries in Asian cuisine ? The different style of yellow curries it self, while contains similar ingredients, tastes quite different. ⁠

As a meal prep dish, it still reheats well after a few days - which is a major plus. ⁠

I added simple marinade on the chicken as I did not want to take the attention away from the star of this dish - the rice.⁠

  • Baby blue potatoes are not as easily available as some of its counterparts, but no worries, you can use other potatoes too, such as Chat, Kipfler, Dutch Creams, etc. ⁠

Nowadays , truffle oil can be found in major supermarket. ⁠
However, if you do get one, just be aware that majority of truffle oil in the market is synthetic truffle oil, meaning that a lab somewhere created an element (or ingredient)⁠
to smell and taste like truffle. They are not using actual truffles. ⁠
⁠
I am lucky to live close by Manjimup, an area which happens to be the largest producer of Superior Perigord truffles in southern hemisphere. So when ever I am down that way, I grab myself a bottle of truffle oil from the farmers market. ⁠
⁠
While we mostly see truffle oil being addedd into pasta and risotto dishes, you can certainly expand your truffle oil exploration horizon. Add it into your fritata, stir fry, soups and many more. Truffle oil is a great way to add a touch of luxe in what otherwise would be normal plain dishes. ⁠

Minyak cendawan truffle ni mungkin susah sikit nak carik. Kalau takde kat super market, online pon boleh beli. Berhati-hati bila membeli minyak truffle ni. Sebab kadang kadang boleh terjebak beli minyak truffle palsu. Tapi kalau dapat yang elok dan ori, rasanya sungguh wow! ⁠

I came across the flavour combination of Parmesan cheese and truffle oil when I was on vacation in Melbourne. I tried a bowl of hot chips drizzled in truffle oil and Parmesan cheese - mind blown!⁠

Now, while I would love to eat fried chips everyday, the hips are telling me otherwise. The roasted potatoes version is equally as nice - and healthier.⁠

  • I love making Sunday roasts, the look on my family's face when the table is laid out with delicious spread is priceless. This recipe for roasted baby blue potatoes with Parmesan and truffle oil is seriously easy yet delicious.⁠

    I came across the flavour combination of Parmesan cheese and truffle oil when I was on vacation in Melbourne. I tried a bowl of hot chips drizzled in truffle oil and Parmesan cheese - mind blown!⁠

    Now, while I would love to eat fried chips everyday, the hips are telling me otherwise. The roasted potatoes version is equally as nice - and healthier.⁠

    The process may seem a bit tedious, however not time consuming (much). But the results you get is, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside roasted potatoes. ⁠

  • Instant noodles is one of the easiest meals to 'dress up' , in other words, you can easily turn a humble bowl of noodles into a semi balanced meal. Many people are a little sceptical⁠
with this, especially since we have been told that instant noodles are not necessarily the healthiest thing you can in your body. I agree, but it is quite easy to get around this, but always remember everything in moderation!⁠

-  If you are concerned about what's in the flavouring sachet (msg, preservatives, etc), don't use it. Replace it with your own broth⁠
-  Worried about the noodles ? One of my mate from Taiwan would boil the noodles separately first, before placing it into the broth. He believes this removes any 'stuff' they put on the noodles to keep it in one piece.⁠
-  Halve the amount of noodles use and add bulk to your meal with lots of vegetables, meat and eggs.⁠

  • Confession time: I love instant noodles. Something about slurping those springy, moist noodles. After years of surviving as a student on a budget, I have pretty much improvised the instant noodles as much as I possibly could. ⁠

With the impressive range of instant noodles made available nowadays, I do feel like a kid in a candy store when standing on the instant noodles isle. the Shin Ramyun Spicy Instant noodles is one of my favourite noodles. Its so spicy, so delicious and sooo springy! Yes, I didn't realise how epic springy instant noodles are until I tried one. So now, springyness of instant noodles is a factor to choosing instant noodles. ⁠

I made this for Saturday lunch, so I upped my game by adding sesame chicken mince, blanched bok choy and fried egg. ⁠

  • I am all about making life easy for me in the kitchen, hence the roast beef cubes. Of course, you can use any beef cuts. Just bear in mind, since this does not take long to cook, 'gravy' beef may come up a little tough. ⁠

Spices and sauces are kept at a minimum here, after all, this dish is to promote clean healthy eating after a weekend binge. ⁠

Don't get put off though, you will be surprised how your taste buds and body needs this kind of simplicity sometimes.⁠

Sebab nak senang la I pakai roast beef cube - tapi pakai daging hak mana mana pon boleh, tapi jangan guna yang tang liat tu,  tak sesuai. ⁠

Ye la benda ni masak sekejap je dalam ketuhar.  Kalau takde ketuhar takpa... benda ni masak dalam kuali pun boleh. campak je semua sekali - no big deal bak kata. ⁠

Sos sos, rempah ratus memang I langsung tak pakai dalam resepi ni, kita nak promote makanan sehat selepas mentekedarah tak hingat dunia pada hari minggu. Jangan tak pandang langsung naaaa, kadang kadang , makanan simple macam ni ka deria rasa dan badan kita nak.⁠

  • one of my favorite weekly meal prep is this roast cubes potatoes with low carb vegetables. It is one of my go-to meal after eating horribly over the weekend. ⁠

For me, this is one of the easiest meals I can whip out when I am feeling lazy and cannot be arsed. I picked several low carb vegetables, as they won't make me feel bloated after eating, yet make me feel full and satisfied. Plus, these veggies are also in season. ⁠

I truly believe that the best way to eat wholesome food is by supporting your local farmers and meat producer by buying fresh and buying seasonal. ⁠

  • I can totally feel the benefit of consuming Chia seeds regularly. Not only Chia seed has a lot of obvious nutrients - like omega 3 fatty acid, iron, and calcium, they are also high in fiber and low in calories. ⁠

    No wonder it was consumed by the Aztecs and Mayans back in the day (hey, if it's good enough for them!).⁠

    One of the main benefits I felt after regularly including Chia seeds in my diet is how well it regulates my bowel movement. Plus, consuming Chia seed also helps me feel⁠
    full for longer (less snacking in between meals then!)⁠

    One of my favorite ways to have this Passion fruit Chia jam is with some good old rye toast. Generously smother the toast with some Chia jam, top up with some Greek yogurt and wash it down with a cup of Jasmine tea. What a way to start the day!⁠

  • This egg fried rice is so easy its almost fail-proof. But there is always the case of gluggy rice! here are some of my tips for avoiding gluggy rice :⁠

A) Use cold rice. It doesn't have to be a day old. Just cold⁠
B) Use room temperature eggs, cold eggs take longer to cook, which means it will stick to rice more and create messy – eggy glugginess. ⁠
C)Fry your rice them on high heat and don’t stir the rice too much.⁠

  • There are so many great reasons to make this dulce de leche or milk caramel. If I have to pick one main reason why this sauce is so awesome, it would be because it is fail-proof! You really could not screw this one up. ⁠

Plus, the consistency and taste you get out of slow boiling of condensed milk, you can put it into everything. Make caramel tart, turn it into salted caramel sauce, dip it into caramel, drizzle it on popcorn, cakes, pancakes or just scoop it out of the jar (yes, they are that delicious!) .⁠

Its worth to keep a jar handy in the fridge in case you need to work on a last-minute dessert (my last, last-minute dessert was caramel halo-halo, basically cut fruits mixed into this caramel sauce, sooo good!)⁠

  • Something about eating a yellow curry dish that makes me feel as if I am on a holiday. For this, I used cubed beef, which I chucked into the instant pot for 10 minutes or so to make it tender and so it wont take to long on the stove. If you choose not to pull out the instant pot, just cut the beef into smaller size. ⁠

Recently, when I visited Thailand , I had this dish served with vermicelli. The curry was far less complicated than mine as the yellow curry only had chicken and eggplant. Yet, it was hell delicious!⁠

Makan masak lemak ni kengkadang, macam rasa balik Malaysia pi bercuti ja. Ala ala balik kampung gitu, sedara mara pakat masak gulai, kita ni pakat makan 😁. Kita masak lemak ni pakai ketulan daging besar, nak kasi lembut, bagi masuk dalam pressure cooker untuk sepuloh minit. Iyolah, daging kita daging Australia youuu. Kalau pakai daging tempatan yang bukan hak batang pinang, Tunggulah dalam pressure cooker tu 15 ke 20 minit. Tapi jangan kasi hancur pulak! (macam kita ni sekali buat rendang daging pakai menatang tu, terover dalam pressure cooker sampai hambik kau hancur dagin, dari ngrondang nogori jadi pulled beef pulak)⁠

  • Instant noodles is one of the easiest meals to 'dress up' , in other words, you can easily turn a humble bowl of noodles into a semi balanced meal. Many people are a little sceptical⁠
with this, especially since we have been told that instant noodles are not necessarily the healthiest thing you can in your body. I agree, but it is quite easy to get around this, but always remember everything in moderation!⁠

-  If you are concerned about what's in the flavouring sachet (msg, preservatives, etc), don't use it. Replace it with your own broth⁠
-  Worried about the noodles ? One of my mate from Taiwan would boil the noodles separately first, before placing it into the broth. He believes this removes any 'stuff' they put on the noodles to keep it in one piece.⁠
-  Halve the amount of noodles use and add bulk to your meal with lots of vegetables, meat and eggs.⁠

Nowadays , truffle oil can be found in major supermarket. ⁠
However, if you do get one, just be aware that majority of truffle oil in the market is synthetic truffle oil, meaning that a lab somewhere created an element (or ingredient)⁠
to smell and taste like truffle. They are not using actual truffles. ⁠

I am lucky to live close by Manjimup, an area which happens to be the largest producer of Superior Perigord truffles in southern hemisphere. So when ever I am down that way, I grab myself a bottle of truffle oil from the farmers market. ⁠

While we mostly see truffle oil being addedd into pasta and risotto dishes, you can certainly expand your truffle oil exploration horizon. Add it into your fritata, stir fry, soups and many more. Truffle oil is a great way to add a touch of luxe in what otherwise would be normal plain dishes. ⁠

  • Thai yellow curry or kaeng lueang does not often appear in our dinner repertoire, but when it does the household goes "how come we don't have this more often?". ⁠

The yellow curry is not hard to make - I use a Thai brand paste to get the taste to be as authentic as possible. I also don't saute the paste in oil. My method of cooking is one I learned⁠
from watching other Thai cooks. To be honest, I prefer it this way. ⁠

Do you know that while there are many variety of yellow curries in Asian cuisine ? The different style of yellow curries it self, while contains similar ingredients, tastes quite different. ⁠

  • I can totally feel the benefit of consuming Chia seeds regularly. Not only Chia seed has a lot of obvious nutrients - like omega 3 fatty acid, iron, and calcium, they are also high in fiber and low in calories. ⁠

One of the main benefits I felt after regularly including Chia seeds in my diet is how well it regulates my bowel movement. Plus, consuming Chia seed also helps me feel⁠
full for longer (less snacking in between meals then!)⁠

One of my favorite ways to have this Passion fruit Chia jam is with some good old rye toast. Generously smother the toast with some Chia jam, top up with some Greek yogurt and wash it down with a cup of Jasmine tea. What a way to start the day!⁠

I came across the flavour combination of Parmesan cheese and truffle oil when I was on vacation in Melbourne. I tried a bowl of hot chips drizzled in truffle oil and Parmesan cheese - mind blown!⁠

Now, while I would love to eat fried chips everyday, the hips are telling me otherwise. The roasted potatoes version is equally as nice - and healthier.⁠

The process may seem a bit tedious, however not time consuming (much). But the results you get is, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside roasted potatoes. ⁠

I cuba kombinasi perisa keju dan minyak cendawan masa melawati kota Melbourne. Ye la, masa tu kita student ja, bajet pon bajet student. I kongsi makan dengan kawan kawan semangkuk kentang goreng dengan topping keju parmesan dan minyak cendawan truffle nih⁠
sedap betul, terkenang kenang rasa sedap dia. ⁠
