  • Initial soft nectarine blows off to dusty chalky dry green briar overshadowing some of the more perfect caramel-fig-rose hips and cherry I have seen in a while. No tropical here, boys & girls, it's all cut-floral silk and straight funky sex.
BUT LET'S TASTE IT
Bright clarity and lazer-focus on the tongue. Ridiculously acidic, magnificently tannic, fruit dreams never grow to ANYTHING near California perspectives, a green gritty rinse of feel-good nectar and chocolate dreams that will put your faith back into wine. Oh, it's ripe--don't get me wrong--I'm guessing 13-oh at least and it shows itself with all this compote and preserve but the brilliant dusky rasp of Medoc is unmistakable. So much energy, so much life, so much smile from me. This is also NOT an expensive wine so call your rep, call your shop, have them bring it in.

  • @la.pelle.wines | 2016 | Cabernet Sauvignon | Reserve | In a time where more of the focus goes to single vineyards and destination AVA’s, we often lose the expression of what Napa Valley as a whole really is, but La Pelle really draws all the things beautiful about Napa Valley. Notes of blackberries, spiced plums, cigar, dry earth, black currant, chocolate, blue florals, and tobacco. Dark fruit dominant on the palate, well layered and elegant on the mid. Vibrant acidity courses throughout bringing balance and finishes with fine grained and well integrated tannins. Stellar wine that’s going to skyrocket as time goes on. Give it a long decant, or hold and enjoy over the next 15+ years. | 96+ points | $175 |

Remarkable P2 Brut 2002 from Dom Perignon
Richness and plenty of energy with finesse..
* Score : 98+ Point
* Drink : 2025 ~ 2055+
* Comment : Collectable
* Grapes : 55% Pinot noir, 45% Chardonnay
* Disgorged : 2017
* Wine information
P2 is the new label for Dom Pérignon`s Oenotheque wines. These wines have undergone much longer lees aging than their vintage equivalents, which results in additional freshness and complexity. P2 is shorthand for `second plenitude`, reflecting the house`s philosophy that champagne experiences three different but equally wonderful stages in aging, captured in three different Dom Pérignon releases: the `regular` vintage wines, which have been aged on the lees for 7-8 years before disgorgement; the P2 wines which see 12-14 years on the lees; and finally the even rarer P3 wines, which undergo more than 20 years` lees aging.
* Winery information
Dom Pérignon was the 17th century Benedictine monk who has gone down in history as the person who "invented" Champagne. His name was originally registered by Eugène Mercier. He sold the brand name to Moët & Chandon, which used it as the name for its prestige cuvée, which was first released in 1937.
A rigorous selection process in both the vineyard and winery ensures that only the best grapes go into Dom Pérignon champagne. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are used in roughly equal proportions without one variety dominating the other.
In its youth, Dom Pérignon shows incredibly smooth, creamy fruit with perfect balance and weight. As it ages, it takes on wonderfully toasty aromas and a finesse equalled by very few of the other Grandes Marques.

  • KAIKEN Estate
Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
🌟91/100 FRANES

BUEN BALANCE / REDONDO / AGRADABLE

  • The start of a new week definitely calls for #MagnumMondays! And this magnum of the 2013 Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Brave sounds like a good place to begin. Have you had a mountain Cab Sauv before? Cheers! 🍷⁣
⁣
From the somm fiancé: Let's talk - in very general terms - about the differences between #Cabernet Sauvignon made from vineyards planted on the valley floor and those planted in the mountains in #Napa Valley. First, the valley floor: here the vineyards are planted on richer soils; temperatures are cooler during the morning and warmer at night. In areas that catch some of the fog off the San Pablo Bay - basically anything south of the town of Saint Helena - sunshine is limited during the early hours. The result - again, speaking very generally - is wines that drink well earlier on; they are a bit less concentrated than their mountain siblings with softer, rounder tannins and silkier textures. The mountain vineyards, on the other hand, are planted on thinner soils; temperatures are warmer during the day and cooler at night and the sunshine is constant. The resulting wines are deeply concentrated, often ferocious in their youth, with bigger, chewier tannins. Many of these wines need time, particularly if bottled in magnums. An example, this #Cab from @mtbravewines. From the excellent, though tannic, 2013 vintage, this shows a ton of potential and a quintessential mountain character, but needs at least another three to four years to truly come together. ⁣
⁣
How to find this wine: Mt Brave is part the @spirecollection in the @jacksonfamilywines portfolio. As most wine stores do some business with Jackson family wines in one manner or another, a good manager at any store should be able to track this wine down for you.⁣
⁣
Approximate retail price: $65-$85 for a standard size bottle. A magnum should cost roughly two to two and a half times that amount.

You will now @masiwines 2012 Riserva Costasera Amarone Classico 💥
.
I love Amarone. It’s a favorite category. Honest words, I felt something deep within my soul awaken with this wine. It is flippin magical. I double decanted, purely to aerate, left it open for three hours before pouring... and it was calling to my soul with pronounced everything; aromatics, flavors, depth, finish. EVERYTHING. Voluptuous, fleshy, complex. Showcased this wine alongside six other Amarones, some being single vineyards retailing for $150+ and this bottle dominated. Total Domination.
