  • A lot of tourism based businesses are hurting and in trouble right now. But there's an added level of stress when it comes to animal sanctuaries. Tourists or not, these magnificent creatures still need to be cared for and protected. Ensuring they dont return to the dire circumstances they were rescued from. Lets all take a second to check in on our favourite charities and see if theres anything we can do to help ease the burden. ⠀

"Seeing rescued elephants was one of the biggest highlights of our trip to Thailand.⠀
⠀
As the country’s national symbol, it was heartbreaking to learn how these incredibly intelligent, social, and emotional animals are being exploited by the booming wildlife tourism industry.⠀
⠀
Behind the seemingly harmless encounters, rides, mud baths, tricks and performances - all unnatural behaviors to an elephant - often advertised as “must-do activities,” elephants are “broken” as babies to be obedient and not harm people.⠀
⠀
Tourists, who love animals, might unknowingly support these attractions that further fuel the mistreatments of elephants for entertainment.⠀
⠀
As long as there is a demand for these type of attractions, the industry will continue to exist. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are organizations that save elephants, victims of the industry, and promote ethical ways to see and learn about them.⠀
⠀
Information is at the tip of our fingers. I encourage you to do research before supporting a wildlife attraction!⠀

  • A classic African sunset in Kruger National Park. Any wildlife we are able to find is just cream on top.

  • Greater Short-horned lizard (Phrynosoma hernandesi) - An environmental setting highlighting the habitat of Saskatchewan’s only native lizard. This endangered species is only found in a few locations in the province, including Grasslands National Park. I look forward to returning to this amazing location later this year (when it warms up). For throwback Thursday.

  • We were hoping to be out looking for this big fella on the snow right about now but here we are. So here is an image of the big boy looking for love from early last spring. It was so much fun to watch this guy move across the winter snow pack making his way through the trees. It's amazing how quickly he can move through the snow even while post holing and breaking through the snow as temperatures warm. He covers so much ground in the spring longingly looking for the ladies to show up. Hopefully he is enjoying the extra quiet and doing well, if we're lucky we will be out to see him soon.⁣

Trane
Lille Vildmose, Nordjylland
.
The common crane is luckely a bird we now se in Denmark, not just on the move spring and fall, but also in the summertime as breeding bird. In Lille Vildmose you are unlucky if you do not meets the bird while driving through the marsh.
