  • Loving these ruffled snap clips so much that I might snag one for myself since snap clips seem to be coming back into style for adults 💁🏻‍♀️. The standard size these come in fit all lady ages, young and “seasoned”!

  • At the @roaringtwentieslawnparty posing for John and wearing one of my earliest higher fashion vintage acquisitions, a 1920s dress with side panels, a somewhat more paired down version of a robe de style. Silk flowers are sewn as if the dress incorporates a belt of roses with a depending sash. Such a feature appears in New Kingdom Egyptian women’s clothing, where a red sash belts and decorates a white dress. Although roses do not appear in Egypt until the Late Period, the flower becomes important in the cult of the goddess Isis, borrowed through Graeco-Roman syncretism with the goddess Aphrodite. The flower appears to have been incorporated into the crown of justification associated with the god Osiris as prototype of the blessed dead. Some Late Roman mummy cartonnages show the deceased holding a cup of water – the cool water of Osiris that symbolizes new life and the floodwaters of the Nile arising out of the putrefying efflux of the god of resurrection, another Egyptian image of eternal renewal. The same portraits usually show the deceased’s other hand holding a garland that in at least some examples probably represents roses and the goddess Isis, great of magic, the consort of Osiris. Roses and Isis appear to be associated in the festival called the “Rhodophoria” (Rosalia in Latin), a carrying of the flowers in a procession. From this practice probably arises the event at the end of Apuleius’ story “The Golden Ass,” in which Lucius’ misadventures after a Thessalian witch has transformed him into a donkey are brought to an end by his eating roses from the hands of a priest of Isis. The hat is by @chapeaug. The 1920s pink silk parasol is hand-painted and has feathers added to the interior of the ribs with an elaborate silver handle. .
