秋を告げる木の実『栗』の季節がやってまいりました。旬は一般的に9月~10月頃と言われ、日本生産量No.1は茨城県と言われています。

天津甘栗で有名な中国は、世界No.1の消費量を誇ります。なんと世界の40%が中国で食べられているのだとか。

このように『栗』というのは世界で愛されているのです。アメリカでは比較的健康的なお酒とし『栗』を原料としたビールが人気だそうです。

日本を含むアジアの国々ではグルテンによって発症するセリアック病になる人はほとんどいないそうですが、アメリカでは人口のおよそ1%もの患者がいるそうです。こうしたことから欧米では今、グルテンフリーの食材がどんどん開発されています。

そうそう、皆さん栗を英語で言うと『マロン』だと思っていませんか。モンブランもマロンも実は『フランス語』なんです。ちなみにモンブランは白い山という意味です。

ではいったい英語ではなんというのかと言うと『チェスナッツ(chestnut)』と呼ばれています。

ちなみにイタリアのシチリア島では4,000年も生きている伝説の栗の木があるのだとか。そんな世界で注目の『栗』ですが、お尻の白っぽい部分が大きく、ずっしりしたものがオススメです。

厚い皮は熱湯に一時間ほど浸しておくと剥きやすいと言われています。

What would I be? In a diverse world of crazy, funky weird vegetables, I can imagine life as the hearty, incredibly versatile and much lusted after tomato (yeah yeah...technically a fruit, but WE all know better!!)..they're plump and round and rosy cheeked, and unless you've got an intolerance to acidity, there's not many an adult on the planet who doesn't want to smooch up close n cosy to them for any meal.
How wonderful to be favoured, savoured, squeezed, fondled, licked and made into any variety of stunning dishes...or just eaten whole with gusto and much slurping of juices.
How amusing to be paired up with the wilted salad counterparts and smile smugly at their sad and limp inferiority, while your polished and bright juicy disposition, sets you diamond bright atop the salad tree like the elusive Xmas star.
Stuffed with decadent goodies, oozing with cheese that rolls over you like a seductive blanket and pools enticingly at your feet.
Drizzled with oils, annoited and smeared with dressings...
Sizzled with spices and nestled loverlike amongst strands of pasta...
Perfumed like a mistress with the very best herbs...
Oh tomato, your life is to be cherished by us mere humans, who can only aspire to your glowing red greatness.

  • Home Cooking/Recipe: This rustic looking dish taken straight from my frying pan is my twist on Ratatouille • I had a bag of eggplant and zucchini I needed to use and this dish came to mind. It’s loaded with vegetables (I added mushrooms as well) and is delicious! • The recipe I’ve been using for years now is from the vegetarian cookbook ‘Moosewood’ by Mollie Katzen (her ratatouille recipe can be found online). I bought this book years ago when I started flatting with 3 vegetarians. It became our food bible of sorts as we all had turns cooking meals from it each night. I was only flatting with them for 8 months but in that time I learnt a lot about different ingredients I’d not used much before and used a lot more herbs and spices for flavour. • This is a well used book...it has food smears and well worn pages...and I always remember my flatting days when I open this book 💛. • Anyway, back to this recipe!  I wanted to add a bit of heat to my ratatouille and usually I would use chilli flakes and maybe a pinch of cayenne powder to do this but I’ve been itching to use a tub of Gochujang Paste (fermented Korean Hot Pepper Paste) I bought recently, so added some of this instead.  It was wonderful!!! • I’m seriously addicted to this paste - it’s savoury, sweet and spicy and added a real umami flavour to the ratatouille. I loved it. • We had the ratatouille with rice for dinner and the next day for brunch on toast with an egg (so good!!) • Not the prettiest thing to photograph but it was delicious to eat! • Have you used Gochujang Paste in cooking? I know I’ll be using it a lot from now on! • Swipe to see the Paste I used which I bought from the Korean shop @adelcentralmarket •

  • Tem lojas que você frequenta só pelo fato de serem agradáveis. Você pode não consumir nada, ou então consumir o mínimo necessário, só para estar naquele ambiente aconchegante. Quem nunca passou em frente à MMartan só para sentir aquele aroma característico? Ou então, quem é que não tem uma cafeteria predileta em que passa horas ali tendo tomado apenas um expresso?

Os estabelecimentos hoje precisam ser assim. Precisam chamar o consumidor para um passeio, mesmo que ele não consuma nada. Como diz o Zeh Rodrigues da @brainboxdesign "Tem que valer a visita.”. Fora do Brasil isso é muito mais comum, pois os lojistas já entenderam que essa prática fideliza o cliente à marca. 
Há anos acompanho os estudos e tendências de marketing de varejo da NRF - National Retail Federation.* Todo evento que participo me empolgo com as amostras internacionais de lojas bem montadas, atendimento personalizado, gondolas com inteligência artificial e por aí vai. 
Hoje cheguei ao Muffato gourmet e que surpresa! Um design elegante, produtos bem dispostos e cores de encher os olhos. Modernizações que de fato funcionam – a possibilidade de passar a sua compra no caixa automático e pagá-la no próprio celular. Finalmente estão colocando em prática o que no resto do mundo já é banal. Certamente colherão bons frutos.

Answer with one of the vegetables below: 🌶 I always get in my 2-3 C 🍆 I try my best to get in my servings each day, but sometimes it’s a struggle 🥦 I get in at least 1 veggie serving 🌽 Veggies...who cares!!!

  • September is #childhoodobesityawarenessmonth and a #child’s growth truly starts with their mother. There is so much already for #newmoms to think about, and so much pressure on them about their diet and exercise and weight gain and their bodies in general. Key habits for positively influencing the future health of the child, and the mother, include eating a varied diet, taking #prenatal vitamins if suggested/necessary, gaining an appropriate amount of weight, participating in physical activity, and avoiding harmful substances. The good news- a registered dietitian can help you with this, and work one-on-one to help you and your child! 
While you’re pregnant it can be difficult to get any #nutrition in, let alone good nutrition. So focus on #fruits, #vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy when you have an appetite. Even if it’s something as simple as a grilled chicken breast with whole wheat toast and a side salad. Weight gain during #pregnancy is normal and healthy too! If no one has talked to you about weight gain goals or if you’re curious, get in touch with an rd to help you figure out if your progress is healthy. When the baby is finally born, a #dietitian can help you continue to nourish yourself and your infant. Research shows that #breastfeeding is the perfect nutrition for infants; however we know it’s not a reality for everyone. So we work with you to help find the feeding method that fits. The big thing is to give all children a healthy head start.

It's definitely been this seasons big surprise! 🌿 I grew two plants this season but am going to go for two more next year. Two pots fit nicely in a 35cm wide beer keg but they get quite tall - about a metre!

    I'm obsessed with this fruit, the flavour is super tropical so I'm really shocked it ripened without the need of a greenhouse. It's definitely been this seasons big surprise! 🌿 I grew two plants this season but am going to go for two more next year. Two pots fit nicely in a 35cm wide beer keg but they get quite tall - about a metre!

This Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Pasta is a dish that is packed with cheesy, rich flavor, loaded with chicken and broccoli. 1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb chicken breasts in small pieces
1/2 tsp salt and pepper
1 onion chopped
4 cloves garlic minced
8 oz pasta uncooked, such as penne, shells, rigatoni, etc.
1 cup chicken broth
2 cups milk
2 cup broccoli cut into small florets
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 cups cheddar cheese shredded

Instructions
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Add the chicken breasts to the skillet and season them with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and starts to lightly brown.
Add the onions, garlic and cook for another 2 minutes until the onions softens.
Add the pasta, chicken broth, milk and bring to a boil. Turn the heat down to low, stir, cover the pot/skillet and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta cooks through.
Uncover the pot and stir in the broccoli. Continue cooking until all the liquid evaporates. Stir in cheese. Taste for seasoning and adjust with salt and pepper if needed. Serve while warm.
