Let’s talk work!
Finding a job has never been easy. I have worked seasonal positions over the years and they never keep me. I apply for full time positions and don’t get a call back. Every applications asks “are you or have you been disabled?” And clicking “yes” is the absolute devil and in the end reinforces discriminatory behavior. I’m a qualified individual with a college degree, who is still attending school to complete 2 more degrees. I’m almost 100% sure I’m more qualified than 90% of applicants but most places don’t want to take the chance on a disabled individual and it’s wrong. Well after years of trying your girl has a permanent position!
I’m a member of the @vansretail family 🖤 and let me just say this is my fucking dream job 🏁 before actually getting this position I applied to the company for 5 years before getting a response. I originally interviewed at an extremely small store, and the manager there reached out to HR to let them know I was a great candidate but their store was inaccessible 😭 that alone was amazing because again they could have easily said NOPE! So I got a second interview at my current store.
My journey started almost a year ago and I was hired as a seasonal associate. At the start of the season I got sick, I missed 8 days of work and was sure I would be fired. Instead managers called me to make sure I was okay 😭 and to this day I’m appreciative of all the love they show me. Throughout the rest of the season I worked hard and kicked ass and they decided to offer me a position as a core family member 😭 never did I think that would be the case to be honest because taking on a disabled employee requires acceptance and accommodation - and long term meant accepting me and 100x I’m hospitalized a year. People always ask what did I do to get the job and it makes me want to punch them in the face. I WORKED HARD! I GIVE NO LESS THAN 150%! It’s all about how bad you want something, and if you don’t give your all then you don’t want it that bad.
