  • Burj Kalifa, Dubai, UAE

The Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة‎, Arabic for "Khalifa Tower"), known as the Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration in 2010, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft) and a roof height (excluding antenna) of 828 m (2,717 ft), the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world since its topping out in 2009.
.
Construction of the Burj Khalifa began in 2004, with the exterior completed five years later in 2009. The primary structure is reinforced concrete. The building was opened in 2010 as part of a new development called Downtown Dubai. It is designed to be the centrepiece of large-scale, mixed-use development. The decision to construct the building is based on the government's decision to diversify from an oil-based economy, and for Dubai to gain international recognition. The building was originally named Burj Dubai but was renamed in honour of the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Abu Dhabi and the UAE government lent Dubai money to pay its debts. The building broke numerous height records, including its designation as the tallest building in the world.
.
Critical reception to Burj Khalifa has been generally positive, and the building has received many awards. There were complaints concerning migrant workers from South Asia who were the primary building labor force. These centered on low wages and the practice of confiscating passports until duties were complete. Several suicides were reported.

.
Pinal County sits on a desert floor, so the dark green cultivated fields stand out. The farms rely on irrigation, since they receive less than 10 inches of rain a year. Irrigation water comes from two main sources: the Colorado River and aquifers.
.
The county seat is Florence. The county was founded in 1875.
.
Pinal County contains parts of the Tohono Oʼodham Nation, the Gila River Indian Community and the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, as well as the entirety of the Ak-Chin Indian Community.
.
Pinal County is included in the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, Arizona Metropolitan Statistical Area. Suburban growth southward from greater Phoenix has begun to spread into the northern parts of the county; similarly, growth northward from Tucson is spreading into the southern portions of the county.
.
The Pinal County city of Maricopa (top left of image), as well as many unincorporated areas, have shown accelerated growth patterns in recent years; such suburban development is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

.
Palmanova, north east Italy, is a very good example of late Renaissance military architecture (star fort) of the Late Renaissance, built by the Venetians in 1593. The fortress town was classified as a “National Monument” in 1960.
.
Why was this place built? In short, the locals were getting battered through various wars over the previous couple of hundred of years. They were sick of it.
.
Between 1470 and 1499 the region of Friuli, under Venetian rule since 1420, had endured no less than seven Turkish raids from the Balkans. Most of the Ventetian defence works were obsolete and insufficient. Only the nearby walled city of Udine could give refuge to the population. In 1500 the Venetians sent Leonardo da Vinci to Friuli and asked him to study the defence works and figure it out.
.
Later, when the Venetian senators got wind of a Turkish plan for the invasion of the Venetian plains, they got really pissed off and decided to erect a real fortress.
.
Work started on Palmanova on October 7th 1593.
