  • 5๏ธโƒฃ Common Designer insecurities .
In the era of tech noise around us and overwhelming amount of information about โ€œWhat is a success?โ€ we all feel insecure sometimes. Here are just some basic insecurities you might have and my take on them. .
1๏ธโƒฃ I am not good enoughโ€ฆ
We all think like that because there is always someone better and there always will be. But have you asked yourself โ€œNot good enough for what or who?โ€. Step aside and stop comparing yourself with other people! .
Improve yourself every day. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
So you could become the best version of you. .
2๏ธโƒฃ My portfolio is crapโ€ฆ
My portfolio was crap too. And right now I donโ€™t even have a website yet. .
Should it bother me โ€“ yes because I need to find time to make it BUT does it stop me from getting clients - absolutely NOT!
.
You should showcase only the stuff that you are proud of. I mean design that solved a problem/satisfied clientโ€™s needs โ€“ design that worked.
.
By the way, there always will be someone, who will consider your work crap and hate it. Thatโ€™s inevitable growth component, my friend.
.
3๏ธโƒฃ I have too many revisions of my design
I offer all my clients unlimited revisions. Iโ€™m usually left with 2 or less. And I use a simple method for achieving this โ€“ Explanatory Document.
I always supply my clients with a document that refers to every single screen (or flow) and explains its functionality, why certain design decisions were made thus already answering a lot of questions client might come up with while reviewing my design. .
4๏ธโƒฃ I canโ€™t design without content
I had huge struggles with this as well, I was stressed but Iโ€™ve managed to find a solution.
Offer client some research phase to analyze their brand and business and come up with a content and structure yourself.
It might not be professionally written but you will give the client the idea and direction he or his content writer can further develop into a beautiful and client-converting copy.

  • You are interviewing them as well as they are interviewing you!

If the next time you go for your next interview, you keep this in mind you will be more relaxed.
Keep track of any question they might ask you, and you will be surprised how they are always the same.

Here below a few suggestions to smash your next interview!
1๏ธโƒฃ One thing to impress people in the room is to refer back to your past, to when something happened to you in another job.
This is a technique most interviewers use called STAR method, but in case they are not using it, you can make it into your own framework.
STAR stands for: ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Situation - What was the situation you / your previous employer faced?
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Task - What tasks were involved in that situation?
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Action - What actions did you take?
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Results - What were the results of those actions?

2๏ธโƒฃ Show your interviewer that you are a strategical thinker. Imagine your interviewer is talking about their product, a tool to financially educate users.
You could ask them if they are similar to product x or y, so you understand which one is the market they are competing with. I usually add that I've been thinking about the specific problem these products are trying to solve, but not really relieving any pain point the users have.
Is it clear what am I doing here?
3๏ธโƒฃ Another suggestion is, be yourself. This is a hard one to understand but basically... If you are an idiot like me be an idiot, make jokes, be professional of course but try to show your personality.
This is very important, some of the best roles I landed where thanks to my personality and not my skills!
4๏ธโƒฃ Remove that thick layer of imposter syndrome you have on your face. If you are not going to do it, the next person that comes into that room will have that job.
How strongly do you want that job?
