  • This BLT is STACKED. If it’s not a BLT with mashed avocado, wilted spinach, sliced tomatoes, perfect crispy bacon, on gluten-free bread with golden roasted potatoes and homemade curry ketchup on the side, I don’t want it!! 😋.
.
.

This BLT was perfect. The icing on the cake was my homemade curry ketchup. It’s so easy to make and taste 1000 times better than store bought ketchup—and it doesn’t have tons of sugar and preservatives!
.

I try my best to limit the pre-made foods that I eat, including condiments like ketchup. A few months ago I read (and thoroughly enjoyed) Michael Pollan’s Food Rules Book in which he educates individuals on simple ways to achieve a healthy and sustainable diet by focusing on the need to simply eat REAL, WHOLE, minimally processed foods. It’s a great book and very interesting read. I highly recommend checking it out. Or checking out my blog post summary where I summarize the book and my favorite rules from the book.
.

One of the rules is to “Avoid Food Products That Contain More Than Five Ingredients”. And honestly, have you ever looked at the back of a ketchup bottle. Even “Organic Ketchup” has a long list of (unpronounceable) ingredients. So, why not skip the store-brought preservative heavy Ketchup and make it yourself?
.

You’d be surprised how easy it is to make your own ketchup. It takes less than 15 minutes and taste INCREDIBLE. I infuse my ketchup with curry seasoning and it magnifies this ketchup, making it hard stop eating! Haha
.

How to Make Homemade Curry Ketchup:

Ingredients:

1 Can tomato paste 6oz
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp coconut sugar
1 tsp red curry powder
1/2 smoked paprika
1/4 tsp salt
Steps:
1. Add all the ingredients (except seasonings) into a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir well and allow the ingredients to come to a simmer, not a boil, then lower the heat.
2. Add seasonings and whisk the ingredients together. All the mixture to simmer and thicken for 5 to 10 minutes, making sure to stir frequently to prevent the sauce from burning.
3. Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool. Serve and enjoy! Store in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks
