  • Sometimes it’s really hard being a queer woman (or something) who’s just coming into their attraction to other women. The attraction is there, it’s valid and true, but there’s always a lot of internalized -isms to get through.

I remember when I became single in 2018 and I was finally able to explore my sexuality in ways that I couldn’t while in a relationship. I had become openly queer back in 2016 or so and I honestly felt more confident then shooting my shot with women than I did two years later.
I find myself constantly tripping over words and growing too excited at the first message a woman sends me on tinder that’s nothing more than a simple “hello”. I constantly think of what to say, how to act, how they might perceive me. Do I look like an authentic queer woman who’s seeking something real on these apps, or do I seem like another unsure heterosexual woman exploring her “wild side”, or trying to objectify very real queer women for the sake of my secret boyfriend?

The anxiety I have around it all is so overwhelming, that I usually end up letting whatever feelings I have subside until the next person I meet. It makes me feel as though I’m a straight person parading around a mask painted as queerness rather than it legitimately being a part of me. I still don’t know all the right words to say and how to gauge when to kiss a woman on a date and when it’s alright to ask for something more serious.
I hope 2020 brings me the clarity I want and need; I don’t foresee myself ever being with a man as a long term partner. It terrifies me, though, that I may minimize myself and my identity for the sole fact that dating men is easier—and still a waste of time but, you know. 😒

  • Yes, my profile may be public atm but access to me is not. If you're someone that's an old acquaintance of mine, an old co-worker, a listener of my previous projects, a person in the many communites I've been involved with in the past, etc and I haven't reached out to you on IG after I came out as trans a couple years ago, please respect my space of healing. I'm busy building true community - filipinx + transmasc. Believe me, your well-wishes are recieved w/o having to interact. You are still loved, forgiven, and understood from afar, but please ease up on the entitlement to access, as this is my hard boundary. Understand I need this space to recover.
*
To all others I'm sharing the path with - I'm so grateful that you are here kapwa. Let's make our ancestors and descendants proud. Mabuhay ang Mentefuwaley (long live the unfolded/trans)!
*
Respectfully,
Omari
*
Ps. The privileged folks of my past are welcome to donate on cashapp $mxomari, if that helps them heal as well.

  • 2020 Gym Reminders (aka gym reflections aka things I wish I knew when I was 18 aka just some gym things)
• Literally no one is there for your unsolicited advice. Trust that the person working out near you knows their own body better than you do.
• The gym can be intimidating and scary, and I’m proud of you for trying something new!!
• Keep the diet talk out of the gym. This can be really triggering for folks to hear for a number of reasons. If your eating habits are changing then that can be exciting and new, but please share that excitement with folks who can hold it. You never know how this can affect the strangers around you.
• Not everyone is there to lose weight
• Not everyone is there to gain weight
• Physical wellness is only one part of wellness. Remember to prioritize your mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness as well!! Balance ⚖️ • The gym is really busy this time of year. The comments, dirty looks, and general lousy attitudes about it aren’t going to make it any less busy
• Trust that the people using the gendered locker room or bathroom near you are in the right locker room or bathroom. Trans people exist. Don’t be the person who makes it weird, awkward, or painful. • Please. Please re-rack your weights 😭 I’m literally begging you • Don’t compare. This can be challenging for the everyday gym goer or the beginner. There will always be people farther along or just starting their wellness journey. Focus on yourself and your goals!!
• All in all just wipe down your machines and be kind. (Maybe take less selfies with toilets in the background 🚽) What are you 2020 gym thoughts?? •

  • I didn’t figure out my gender identity all at once. It was kinda like putting together a puzzle without knowing what the final picture looked like. I kept putting together pieces that looked like they fit. Sometimes pieces went together so easily, and other times the pieces seemed so confusing that I put the puzzle away for weeks, months, and even a year or so. Sometimes I would pull the puzzle out again, and a friend or loved one or stranger on the internet would say “Hey is this the piece your looking for? It was hard for me to figure out this section, but so promise you’ll get it!”. •
Even with guidance, the puzzle sometimes seemed too scary to approach. What would be waiting for me when the puzzle was finished? What would be right in front of me? What would I do with it? Who could I show it to? •
The truth is that the puzzle isn’t finished. I don’t think there’s a single “finished” gender puzzle in this community. Even the folks who seem like they all have it together might still be working out some of the picture. It might never be finished. There’s no finality to your project of knowing yourself. We’re always growing and changing, and that’s beautiful.
•
So, if you’re struggling through the puzzle, working out the sides, filling in the middle, or just trying to find spaces for tricky pieces know that you’re not alone in this challenge. 🧩

  • Working on building my chest — I only used dumbbells today and did incline flys followed by an inclined hex press, dumbbell pullovers followed by pushups, and finished with a single arm dumbbell bench press
•
Looking to change it up a bit so let me know what your favorite chest exercises are!
