  • Just some light reading...👩🏾‍🏫
•
I’m writing my dissertation, so I pretty much live in the library. I’m a huge fan of Maxine Greene (Releasing the Imagination book). If you believe that schools should foster student individuality and creativity instead of conforming to society’s expectations, then you should read her work!

Do you see any of your favorite philosophers? Or do you have any suggestions for my reading list? Drop them below! 👇🏾

  • This is a video project I did for my Visual Storytelling class.
The aim was to capture “natural sound” and tell a story using medium and tight shots.
We could only use one wide shot to establish the scene.
It’s mediocre at best.
I shot with a Panasonic AVCCAM and edited on Premier Pro.
Please excuse the jump cuts... They make me cringe.
What did I do well?
What needs work?

  • 🖌Posted @withrepost • @artbyashleylane This is the first painting I ever made. I was in college at Texas State at the time... I would add on to the piece bit by bit as I felt inspired... I was searching. When I was creating this it was never about pursuing a career as an artist. I graduated shortly after making this piece, with a Communications degree and a minor in Business - because that’s what I thought that degree was “acceptable” and the right thing to do.

This piece was about expression. What I learned from creating it was priceless...I didn’t know if it was good or not or what purpose it served (and that didn’t matter). But I knew it felt good to create, and somehow that felt like home to me. It’s funny how after creating that piece, and even while pursuing other career avenues I kept being drawn back to painting. It has been a constant in my life ever since. .
.
Fast forward to today - here it is displayed ar Pita Jungle in Scottsdale, Arizona. And here I am standing in front of it with my two beautiful little girls. Now, with my pursuit of painting, following my heart, and having the opportunity to share with others is the fulfilling vehicle I'm so grateful to have. It allows to be at home with my little ones and grow - and most importantly it allows me to feel purpose. I also have my incredible husband to thank for his constant support and allowing me to be in the position to go after this. 💕

Today I am thanking myself for taking that chance to create about 10 years ago...not being scared of the outcome or letting my ego get in the way, and creating not for any purpose except to just be in the moment.

I have this running theory that whenever I have a shoot planned it’s just going to rain. Maybe I need to plan for a shoot for a specific day, but it’s really planned the day before. 🤔 can I trick this theory? 😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

  • Our favorite thing about San Marcos is how much local businesses support each other. Our friends at @powinc.products just hooked us up with these sweet pint glass koozies!
