  • <Reading> We are in serious LOVE 💖 with reading 📚 at Sprouts. It is the highlight 🙌🏻 of our days with our cherubs. We enjoy seeing how excitedly they make their way to the mat and listen so attentively as we read. .
For some of our stories, we love using props, like our felt character pieces, before, during and after reading to really assist in their comprehension skills 💭 and ability to retell the story. Our Sprouts are always jumping out of their skin to get their turn at placing a felt object or moving a character across the board. We also love seeing our Sproutie friends having a go at moving the characters around and retelling the story in their own words later on in the class. They think they’re playing, but we know 🤫 they’re secretly learning the amazing skill of ‘retell’ which is a wonderful one to practise early on in their reading life. 📖 .
Retell is a strategy you can work on at home. 🏡 Once you have read the story, try flipping through the pages and getting them to ‘read’ the illustrations. They will soon become so confident at this skill and retell will soon be like second nature and something they will begin doing on their own once reading a book. 📖

  • I still sometimes have to catch myself with this one... It may be said with all the right intentions (boost confidence, motivation ect) but telling a child the task is easy can make them feel hopeless if they are not getting it. Instead of “this is easy”, try “I believe you can do this if you really focus”, or “I’ve seen you do this sort of thing before, let’s try to remember how we did it then”.
Never tell a child something is easy if they aren’t understanding it! #itmightbeeasyforyou #butitsnoteasyforthem

  • The almighty IG struggle: what do people want to see on my feed? How do I achieve editorial style photos? How do I engage followers and keep them on my page? How do I attract new followers? What filters should I be using? 🤯
🤯
I think I'll just show you guys a great beach in Sopot Poland and wish you a sunny bank holiday 👌

  • 🌟CLASS BOOKS🌟 One of our favourite things in 2 Crimson, is to publish our work into books so the whole class can read. These are ALWAYS the most popular books in our class library! I often have to tape them back together because they are so loved.

  • Did you have a favourite teacher at school? Mine was a wonderful English teacher who believed in me.
It’s back to school week here in Northern Ireland and with that in mind I thought I’d share this design.
Just getting little miss Tolerated ready for her first year in grammar school has me appreciating how much work must go into lesson planning for hundreds of children.
This school year hasn’t quite started but already I’m saying hats off to the teachers! I hope this year everything goes to plan!! #backtoschool #teachers #backtowork #schooltime

  • Hahaha this is so true. Any other teachers get super awkward talking to parents or is it just me? 😂 Last year I was getting a new student who didn’t come to registration, so I called the parent to confirm the kid was coming and called her “Kailyn Baker” and then had to say, “Wait, no. Baker is my maiden name. I don’t know why I said that” 🤦🏻‍♀️ true story! 😂

  • THIS 👆⠀
⠀
Don’t let people make you feel bad for needing some time to yourself just because they don’t understand it. It doesn’t make you rude to need something that they don’t. ⠀
⠀
That’s the struggle of being an introvert AND a people pleaser. I love being social, but I NEED time alone, and I can’t tell you how many times in my life I’ve not allowed myself that time in fear of hurting someone’s feelings or making them feel like I don’t want to be around them. I’ve gotten much better at taking time for myself when I need it, but I still struggle with people saying they felt like I didn’t want to be around them or asking if I was okay. My biggest solution for this is communication. Make sure that the important people in your life know and understand this about you. If they can’t handle it, they aren’t your people. ⠀
⠀
Anyone else need time alone to recharge?? How do you manage it?⠀⠀

  • Feeling all the feels about my first official day as a new teacher in a new district tomorrow...
•••
I feel nervous. Very nervous. Particularly about walking into new teacher orientation knowing no one (despite what social media would make you think, I’m not always the most outgoing). I feel uncertain about what to expect. I feel uncomfortable not knowing the routines and the climate of things. I feel scared of being the “new one” or the “weak link.” I feel sad (like, really sad) knowing that my friends are going back to school without me tomorrow and that I won’t see familiar faces first thing in the morning.
•••
But I also feel ready. Ready for change and growth and new challenges. I feel proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone, for putting in the hard work, and for not giving up when I heard “no thanks” over and over. I feel welcomed. My new team and the staff I’ve met have been nothing but inclusive from the start. I feel excited for a new beginning and all that comes with it. And, most of all, I feel worthy of it....and so should you. Whether it’s a new position, a new school, or just a new year: you’re worthy of a new beginning and a great one at that!
•••
Happy back to school, friends. How are YOU feeling? ✨
