  • Viendo #AssassinationNation

  • My top picks from the International Film Festival Bengaluru 2019🎬🙌🏻

3. BURNING - Based on a short story by Haruki Murakami, this mystery thriller from South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong was one of the best foreign language films at the Oscars last year. The three central characters are connected by some sense of strangeness, never certain of what’s coming next. Things happen casually and there is so much ambiguity in the story and what we see are never what they seem. Yet, there is a serious and alarming sense of danger you feel throughout. A mystery thriller of sorts from the look and premise of it, the movie is elegantly shot and never in a hurry. It takes its own time to settle heavily depending on the characters and some interesting references and plot points, before taking things to closure in a frightening finale. With strong and committed performances from all actors, Burning is a chilling, engrossing and strange romantic thriller.

2. The Guilty - Among the few single location movies with limited tool box, the one I recall now is the 2013 film ‘Locke’ starring Tom Hardy. With ‘The Guilty’, Danish filmmaker Gustav Moller delivers a gripping abduction thriller with a middle aged man and a hands-free phone. The story is simple. A Copenhagen police officer demoted to desk work answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman. When the call gets disconnected suddenly, Asgar – the protagonist officer - takes things in his own hands and from there on it’s a race against the clock. Soon he realizes that he is dealing with a much more complex crime than he first thought. All we see is the emergency control room throughout the runtime of the film but the director who pulls the strings with superb command turns a handful of phone conversations into a riveting drama. This Danish thriller deserves to be seen by more people than just the festival circuits and hopefully a Hollywood remake soon will do that job!

  • Saturday’s always make a great day to wake up and enjoy a walk with the Paw Pals. We normally schedule all of our meet and greets and helping coach PAWrents on the weekends. We practice how to walk their dog around other dogs, what to correct in themselves and in their dog by inviting them along on our pack walks. With so many elements to practice with out and about on our walks, we also get to observe the handler of things they may not be aware of that may be triggering anxiety or unwanted behavior in their Paw Pal and help make those adjustments for them. Filming helps because we get to review it with them so they too can be aware and make that adjustment in their leadership role.
