  • The Federal Communications Commission has proposed a three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 988.
*
The federal agency's staff made the recommendation this week in a report to Congress, finding that using a shorter and easier to remember number "would likely make it easier for Americans in crisis to access potentially life-saving resources."
*
The push for change comes as America's suicide rates are at the highest level since World War II, with an increase of 33% from 1999 to 2017 alone, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
*
Annual research published in June by the agency's National Center for Health Statistics found suicide rates among people 15 to 64 climbed significantly during that period, rising from 10.5 per 100,000 people in 1999 to 14 per 100,000 in 2017, the most recent year with available data.

  • New hair new me? Anyways, new blog post out about a RICIDULOUS email sent to me a few years ago attempting to debunk mental illness. This dude Vladimir LITERALLY called bipolar disorder a hoax and said mania and depression were results of fluctuating blood sugar levels 🤦🏼‍♀️ HE SAID TOO MUCH COFFEE CAUSES MANIA. I’m dead. I highly recommend reading if you need a good laugh. Please send up a good f u to Vladimir for me 😊❤️

  • Check out my newest podcast with Keith Anderson at Worth Living!! In this podcast, we discuss the Worth Living message of Health and Happiness.

Health: Many of the things we do for our physical health also impact our mental health. Exercising and eating well may help us obtain a healthy and strong physique, but they also help us achieve a healthy and strong mind. Therapy, medication, meditation, exercise, diet, sleep: all of these things can positively contribute to our mental wellbeing.

Happiness: I believe this is the most important of Worth Living's 4 H's. I encourage you to surround yourself with people who make you happy. But first and foremost, you must become someone who makes you happy. Before I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I was not happy with myself. I did not want to be alone with myself. I didn't know how to distinguish between activities that I felt like I had to do and activities that made me feel happy and fulfilled. Now I know how to be happy with me and only me, and that is the most freeing feeling in the world. Keith, my fellow overachiever, feels similarly. We are thankful to have followed this path to happiness together!

Like always, this podcast is available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Podcasts, Anchor, Breaker, Castbox, Overcast, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic, Stitchernd, and the iPhone podcast app!

  • Yesterday marked one year of the passing of my best friend/brother @tsam1285. I’ve had an entire year to go through the grieving process and reflect on what happened, I’ve done a lot of self reflection and understanding of bad habits with myself and others, and how toxic people can be, along with the poor understanding of how we perceive or handle/help mental illness. I saw that @hushperformance announced they are going to be reproducing the raised center panel hood that has long been discontinued for the crx/ef civic. It’s something me and @tsam1285 always wanted to do, instead of washers used to raise the hood to clear the motor, but it was either too expensive or unavailable at the time. I’m excited to get my hands on one, as this is an important part of this build. It’s going to get vinyl wrapped with the National Suicide Prevention Hotline information/logo. Hopefully this will help someone, maybe make someone aware there is help available, all I can ask for. Just want people to be happy. #suicideprevention #crx #efcivic #suicidepreventionhotline #1800273TALK @tsam1285 @namipascranton #tsam1285 #hushperformance

“I went to the gym, the gym I had gone to for years, at a normal time of day for a normal workout. I went with my brother. I saw my friend's dad, but I didn't talk to him, I don't know why, I just didn't feel like making conversation. I got on the machine, put my earphones in and started moving. I zoned out....”

  • I’ve battled with my mental health for years. I thought I had it under control but, in the blink of an eye, I had the worst breakdown as of yet a few days ago. I’m getting help and I’m getting better. I hate asking for help. But sometimes, you can’t do things alone and that’s the case with my current situation. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re weak. If you feel yourself slipping, seek help. I’m sharing my story because I have always felt alone in my journey. If you’re struggling, you aren’t alone. •

Diamond pushups followed by stacked feet pushups to make up for yesterday. —-
It’s been awhile since I have shared my story. I have had major depression, in Jr High I had suicidal ideation. I am a childhood trauma survivor. I’ve worked through PTSD (mostly). Looking back, I am thankful I was determined to “make it look like an accident “ and pre-internet, google, Siri couldn’t come up w/ a way to end my life and have it look like an accident (I didn’t want to burden my Mom and brother with the guilt of wishing they had seen the signs). After two weeks of contemplation, I decided to pull out in front of a moving car on my scooter (it wasn’t highway legal so would have to be someone driving to fast on the country roads back into town-a regular occurrence). Well... the absolute only one driving in my small town that afternoon was “Old Man Charlie” in his large, green, boat of a car... going MAYBE 10 miles an hr. I knew I was more likely to give Charlie a heart attack than end my own life so I drove my scooter around and yelled at the sky and God. I came to the decision that even though I didn’t feel worthy to be on this Earth, there was a purpose for me ... or it wouldn’t be so damn hard to leave. I had to prove my life had value. I knew, in that moment, I would go into the medical field. #youmatter #endthestigma #yourlifematters #suicidepreventionhotline call

I share my story hoping to #endthestigma of mental health disease. By owning my story and being ok sharing it publicly I hope to bring out the importance of our mental health. Let’s bring it out of the shadows. We are so quick to seek help for strep throat, a sprained ankle, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc but shy away from asking for help when it come to our mental health and wellness. Sometimes even have the attitude that we don’t need or want to take “those kinds of medications”. #endthestigmaofmentalhealth #bethelight #pushupchallenge —-
