  • My first wine tasting experience and it was definitely interesting to learn about the different types of berry wines @canada_berries !! 🍷
__
Canada Berries Winery is a local winery in Richmond and offers a number of different berry fruit wines such as blueberry, blackberry, gooseberry, raspberry, black currant, and cranberry! My personal favourite ones were the prince black current and princess gooseberry! I also really like their Angel’s Kiss Sparkling Wine and Riesling Ice Wine! 😍 All the fruit wines were very unique in their own ways!

Thank you @canadaberries for the invite and Julie for hosting us! #mediatasting

  • Cheers to Monday, wine friends!🍷 While being in Athens, I visited a cool wine bar @oinoscent and was introduced to this amazing sparkling rosé! I didn’t expect much, but was fascinated by the its quality, elegance and finesse!

Domaine Karanika was founded by Laurens M. Hartman - Karanika and Annette van Kampen. Laurens is the son of a Greek mother and a Dutch father. Both he and his wife Annette have lived all their life in the Netherlands and had worked for about 15 years in various management positions in publishing before one day they decided to pursue their dream: to produce top-quality wine.

Their winemaking philosophy is based on biodynamic principals🐄 meaning that real quality is achieved only when there is complete balance in all aspects of the growing and winemaking process. This includes minimal handling of grapes and wines with few to none chemical additions.

The wine itself brings out the best of Xinomavro. Matured between 6 - 12 months on the lees. Riddled and disgorged by hand. It had unbelievably bright strawberry🍓 and rose🌹 aroma. Probably, because the vineyard includes old to very old ungrafted Xinomavro vines🤔

I know for sure that when I come across these wines again, I’ll definitely buy a bottle. No, the whole box!😋🥂 #sparklingwine #sparklingrose @domainekaranika @winesofgreece

  • Today was all about joy (and bubbles) rising. Learning a lot from my @gloriaferrerwines wine club membership. #Cava is more like #Champagne (and champs-method sparkling wines not made in the Champagne region) than #Prosecco because of the in-bottle second fermentation process. Prosecco (and #Sekt, German #sparklingwine) does its second fermentation in a barrel, making for a less expensive sparkling product!
Anywaaaaay, no matter HOW you cheers, make sure you have bubbles in yo' life! 🍾🥂🍾🥂🍾

  • Spent a wonderful day with my bestie yesterday. Part of our day of fun included a visit to Backyard Vineyards @backyardwines. We did a tour and tasting and learned a lot while seeing some of the machinery that makes the wine in action. This vineyard has been around for 20 years, though it has had a couple of name changes over time. They have a lovely patio and the facility is available to rent for weddings and other special occasions. Backyard Vineyards grows Pinot Noir grapes on 5 acres of land. The other grapes that they use come from the Okanagan. They make their sparkling wine, Blanc de Noir Brut from this grape. During the tour we were given an explanation about how the "champagne" is made including the final stage of using a riddling rack (pictured). Riddling is the process that collects the yeast and sediment in a bottle and concentrates it near the mouth of the bottle. Then the carbonation pushes this bit out before it's corked. We tasted 5 wines at the end of the tour: Blanc de Noir Brut, Chardonnay, Crisp White, Nosey Neighbour Red, and Cabernet Franc. My favourite was the Brut. The Chardonnay was lighter bodied than I expected. To my nose, the white blend smelled strongly of grapefruit. The reds were both a bit lighter to my taste buds as well, and since I tend to prefer full-bodied reds, I took a bottle of the Cab Merlot home with me. What I love most about going to wineries is that the staff are passionate about wine and knowledgeable about the process. Fitz was overjoyed to get out of the house and explore another local winery. The cheeky fella was hamming it up in several shots. Fitz, you goof! #backyardvineyards #wine #winery #bcwines #bcwinery #langleybc #fraservalley #sparklingwine #pinotnoir

  • Sunday champagne choicesğŸ˜Ž
Champagne, that bubbly beverage that pops its cork for celebrations, is named after the region in northeast France where it’s produced. The name “Champagne” is protected and only sparkling wine produced in the Champagne region can be called Champagne.
•
The same goes for the process that assures those trademark bubbles: It’s called the méthode champenoise and only Champagne-makers in Champagne can claim its use. Once the bottle reaches maturity, a process known as remuage occurs.
•
The bottles are gradually turned until they are almost upside-down, allowing the yeast to settle at the neck of the bottle. After a quick freeze, the cap and frozen residue is removed and the bottle is quickly re-corked to maintain its carbon dioxid🥂

  • Salmon salad and a glass of Alta Langa rosé Contessa Rosa by Fontanafredda 🍾
Named after Countess Rosa Vercellana, the mistress and later wife of Victor Emmanuel II King of Italy, this Metodo Classico sparkling wine, is made from grapes grown at the rolling hills of Alta Langa. This cuvée was created using a liqueur expédition which contained Barolo from 1967 vintage in order to give life to this colour.

  • Let’s talk PROSECCO. It’s from Italy and uses a different winemaking method than champagne. A Brut Prosecco is going to be less sweet than a dry Prosecco. Also best cheese pairing is Asiago! 🖤
