  • “How wild it was, to let it be.” ~Cheryl Strayed

Throughout the trek, there were quite a number of abandoned shacks. Many of them were damaged by the earthquake in 2015 and were left deserted but many of them were just left behind. The reason for such houses was unknown. We were right on the edge of the trail looking down one such house. We wondered about who the dwellers were who once inhabited this place and what was the reason they left it.

  • “And though our roots belong to the same tree, our branches have grown in different directions.” ~Suzy Kassem

The numerous , complex pattern of the branches were a work of art. We had started to see more vegetation now. Walking through these woods helped us to get some shade, soothing our nerves which were tired after trekking in the heat of the sun.

  • “Work hard now, suffer and keep it up. Rewards are at the edge.” ~Maxime Lagacé

The Sherpas have this unbelievable strength. They carry tons of load on these tough, treacherous paths and have the endurance levels that we , urban people, cannot even imagine. We crossed by hundreds of Sherpas carrying weights of varying kind. Our own team of Sherpas were carry the luggage without even complaining.

  • “I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable, I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.” ~Walt Whitman

We were standing on a ridge on the mountain side here. The trek was narrow and we noticed a group of yaks with heavy luggage behind us. We got a little flustered and without thinking ran up to the ridge to give them a way. Suddenly one of the yak from the group decided to head our way! They were funny screams and I was clinging to my team leads backpack. I ran further upon the ridge as we started to loose balance. The yaks are normally very harmless but we were intimidated by their size and strength. The whole scene was quite funny when all of us started to scatter in random directions frantically to avoid that one yak.

  • “One man practicing kindness in the wilderness is worth all the temples this world pulls.” ~Jack Kerouac

We took a last look at the vast landscape of the pheriche valley which was a cradle to one of the highest mountains of the planet. We said our ode to this place, fixed our backpacks behind our back and held our hiking sticks firmly to go back to where we had started.

  • “The earth has music for those who listen.” ~Shakespeare

The glacier river was roaring , cutting through the mountains. The greenery was showing on the west side. That was the path we would take in next hour back to our journey.

  • “Every crag and gnarled tree and lonely valley has its own strange and graceful legend attached to it.” ~Douglas Hyde

It was a gorgeous morning. The sunlight was bringing our every details out of the landscape. I walked to the other side of the village where the river was flowing. I spend some time at that spot. Great way to start a brand new day.

  • “What draws us from the low valleys to the high mountains is that noble stance of the summits” ~Mehmet Murat ildan

There were just few bits of clouds here and there. The snowy peaks of the Himalayas were visible around us. After breakfast we stood here for a while to look at this exceptional, silent landscape.

  • I just took delivery of one of the first Sony A7R iv’s released in the USA! Thanks to Roberts Camera of Indianapolis. They have been my long time camera and equipment supplier. Bruce the owner sold me my first pro digital camera body! It was the amazing 5.3 mp, Nikon D1x that was released in February, 2001. (Ok, the camera sucked but at the time it was cutting edge😂)18 years later Roberts are still awesome! A family owned business with amazing staff like, Jody Grober, Nick, Christie, Ed and many more. Give them a try www.robertscamera.com . This is not an ad, more a show of genuine appreciation!.

  • “One day’s exposure to mountains is better than a cartload of books.” ~John Muir

Woke up to a nice sunny day at the Pheriche village. It was yet another long day ahead. On our way back there were acclimatization days. We needed to head back in lesser days. This house is basically a medical camp for emergencies like in case of high altitude sickness. It does not operate round the clock. The doctor is called upon request.
