- STOP LYING TO YOURSELF
It’s about work ethic, that’s all. You want to rise up? Then stop making excuses, stop falling down over your addictions and past those emotional baggage and put in, do the work, remove all the distractions in your mind, the internet, your phone, the people around you and get going with what you need to do.
If you want to be great, you need to be all in and if you are all in, you need to make sacrifices. It hurts when you don’t spend time with your family, it hurts when you aren’t hanging out with your friends, it’s depressing when you aren’t enjoying holidays like everyone else or holding hands with someone you love.
It takes discipline, commitment, passion and possibility. because when you combine all your effort and keep aiming it at the thing you want most in life, well, the wall will begin to crack…you keep pushing and pushing, pressing so hard against this concrete wall your whole life until finally, finally it begins to move and so you push and push even when you have nothing left to give but somehow, you find a little bit more, just a little bit more and that damn wall moves further and you know inside yourself, that you definitely can’t go any further, you are exhausted and there’s no way in hell you can push any harder but what happens is your desires, your heart, your soul all push with you and you’re dying now, you’re weak, you’re gasping for air but you know deep down that if you push just a little longer, it’s possible, just a little harder, that wall will come crashing down and you know what happens? You lean into it and you scream, you cry, you bleed for it and you release all that you have in you that’s left and the next thing you know, you knock that bitch down!
That’s what it takes.
Anything less and you are only lying to yourself.
- Hello from the other side 🎤😩🎶
Fragile Flesh I - Reconciliation
▪️ Recently, I began to considered a portrait/body series titled ‘Fragile Flesh’ - after a melancholy weekend dealing with an eye infection, a cut finger, and a sore shoulder (from a tetanus shot) among other nuisances and upheavals. Gazing at bloodied tissues and bandaids on the counter, it occurred to me to combine my love of Julia Margaret Cameron‘s photography with all my body’s shortcomings and injuries - human fragility exposed, but hopefully in a timeless (maybe beautiful) way. I like this portrait for the unbrushed hair and no makeup, discolored eye from soaking it, slightly swollen cheek and visible neck scar (I’m strangely fond of it). I was emotionally raw and vulnerable on this particular day, but now I feel empowered by it, by the art of it. ▪️Multiple edits as usual - Using Snapseed and Mextures.
Happy, Un-manic Monday!

Em is lovely to work with and one of the few people who can match my (low) energy naturally.
This was my first portrait shoot in seven months and I do not understand how this feels foreign to me now.
It just goes to show that photography is a muscle that needs to be conditioned with constant vigilance.
