  • I guess this is the question of our times.

Do we want to go back to nornal, business as I usual, when the current quarantine is over?

For me, the answer is no because I haven't lived a normal life for the last eight year.

Instead, I've been living life as an adventure and experiencing the world through a completely different lens.

I left normal behind the day I walked out on a life that was slowly killing me; body, mind and soul. I eft my legal career, home country if the UK and all my security to begin anew.

What is happening to the world is business as usual for me.
Perhaps this is what humanity is facing. Perhaps every one of us is going to be called to walk our hero's journey. Face our deepest, darkest fears to save ourselves.

Perhaps it is humanity's destiny to call time on "normal" once and for all.

If you enjoy my musings, check out my first book "The Adventures of a Wild Woman on the Camino de Santiago. 📖
Life rewards the brave, if we are willing to let go and live 💪

  • “Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild.'' - Stephen King
_______________________________
Days are getting longer, sun is gradually warming the cold grounds across Canada, the greenery is starting to breathe again, animals are returning home and/or coming out of their dens. .
I've always felt an immense ''joie de vivre'' in the spring. I always feel myself reborn. I'm a creature attracted by warmth and I've always looked forward to summer.
.
However, in April of 2020, I feel a certain melancholy creeping in, perhaps out of fear that summer will be taken away from us, that we will be robbed of those moments where we can fully enjoy the sun, those fun moments at the beach, on the road, on the mountain or around a campfire. Nevertheless, what I am most afraid of is not being able open my wings and travel, not being able to discover new wonders, whether in my region or in regions that are unknown to me. .
Am I the only one?
.
Double tap if that hits home to you (crying emoji)

  • 🇲🇲 Met my horoscope sign in person 🦀 at the BEST beach I've ever been to in my life! 🌊⁣⁣
⁣⁣
About 30 minutes away from the beach resort I was camping at was a public beach, and the hilly, bumpy dirt road to get there was treacherous!! Worse than that forest trail!!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Another backpacker and I went together and saw several locals on the beach near the entrance, cafes, and shops. I heard from other travelers that if you head further down the beach until it ends in a lagoon-like area, you get the whole place practically to yourself! We were happy to discover that it was true!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We parked in the sand, making sure not to get any in our wheels since that's a big no-no for motorbikes, swam over to the large sandbar where we saw some old fishing baskets, interrupted a large crab meeting, and heard loud cicadas (?) from the pine-tree-looking forest in the distance. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The warm water was a refreshing, clear baby blue and the white sand was super soft. No rocks or other pokey things to worry about when walking in the water, which was shallow for so long before we had to swim!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Southern Myanmar has some of the most incredible scenery and is untainted by mass tourism as it opened to tourism about 6-7 years ago (according to what locals told me). From what I noticed, it doesn't have too many options for accommodation and can be pricier for budget travelers the more south you go.⁣⁣

Schreibt mir eure Meinung dazu gern in die Kommentare! 🙏🏻⁣

  • Take me back to #cuscoperu !

Memories from randomly exploring the city, with the hilarious @naughtyfoxyfox 🤣
.
Some of the highlights of our journey:
.
Twelve-angled stone: The twelve-angled stone is an archeological artefact in Cuzco, Peru. It was part of a stone wall of an Inca palace, and is considered to be a national heritage object. The stone is currently part of a wall of the Lienzo Pétreo wall.
.
Each block was cut to fit perfectly with every other surrounding block, requiring a painstaking amount of care and attention to detail. In fact, the joints of the wall are so precisely fashioned that even today, hundreds of years after it was first constructed, not even a single piece of paper can fit between any of the wall’s blocks.
.
The Arco de Santa Clara: An arch leads from the Plaza San Francisco to the Calle Santa Clara. The arch was built to celebrate Peru's short-lived federation with Bolivia in 1835 🎉 .
Cristo Blanco: perched high above the colonial centre of Cusco is the 8meter tall statue which was a gift from the Arabic Palestinians who sought refuge in Cusco after world war 2. The statue depicts Christ extending his arms outward - very similar to Rio’s Christ the Redeemer but only in miniature format. To get here requires a 30-40 uphill trek from Plaza de Armas but was well worth the hike!
.
And right beside the Cristo Blanco is the Saqsayhuman Incan Archeological site! A shrine or fortress, no one really knows for sure but it is a must visit for anyone passing through ☺️

  • I travel when I can. I work a part time job in Georgia (the state) and when I can get the time off and have enough money, I go. I love planning. I love watching YouTube vlogs about the food in SE Asia or Greece or Amsterdam. I find the most popular mode of transportation, and the best times to experience the city without crowds ruining it for me. I do the research myself and I book a ticket and hope for the best. I’ve googled how to make money while traveling or how to travel for 4 years nonstop, but those just don’t work for me. I’ll get a career and settle down, but right now it seems the universe does not want me to get a job in my field (masters in environmental science), therefore I travel. I splurge on some things, I eat ramen when I’m being frugal. The balance is the key. .
. .
@kaypiperu gave me a great first tour group experience that I would definitely recommend. If you go alone, you’re never alone here and it’s so easy to make friends. I’m still in touch with people I met on this trip. 10/10

  • The rain cleared and the sun has been shining bright this week! 🙌 This allowed me to finish inspecting and deep cleaning every nook and cranny of Mander. Luckily, I found a lot of dirt and not much for mold. 🎉 At this point, I don't think there is anything in Mander I haven't touched in the last couple weeks. 😂
⁣
Yesterday, I tackled my outdoor compartments. If you wanna see what I haul around to keep my old home rolling, check out my story! ⁣
⁣
I hope you are well and spring is kissing the tip of your nose. 🌼🌷🌻🌸

But it's ok, the rocks aren't going anywhere, things will pass, and I'll be back 😌

.
⬇⬇⬇Did you know ?⬇⬇⬇
The towerr is attached to the puppet theatre of Rezo Gabriadzer. Every hour, a window opens at the top, and an angel strikes the bell. Below the clock, a screen opens at noon and 7pm, showing the circle of life: boy meets girl, marriage, childbirth and funeral.

  • How did I end up in the Caribbean in February?
...
At the beginning of January I landed in Dubai back from Comoros. In a semi-conscious state of mind I checked my phone and saw a vacation swap request for my February one week leave for October leave. I figured it would make sense to have holidays later in a year and to give my body and budget a bit of relief so I accepted the swap. Next thing you know- I see two weeks holiday booked in my February schedule! Turns out, a person who requested the swap wanted my holiday in October and gave me her holiday in February!
...
I am not the one to necessarily believe that everything happens for a reason, but in the current situation and uncertain travel future I am so glad I made that mistake! Two weeks allowed me to venture to few remote islands (there are not many cruises which go there) and also visited in Colombia my salsa queen in a making @ania_ska01 ...
I know many of you had to cancel or change travel plans. I cannot count how many times I had to amend my travels in the past- due to visa restriction, time constraints or simply because I didn’t make it to the flight (I am talking about you, Micronesia-offloaded from the flight twice! ). I have also planned to get to this part of the Caribbean multiple times. What I have learned over years is- it was a blessing that things didn’t work out the first, second, third time around. Cause when they finally did the visits turned out to be so much better that they would have been if initial plan or timing worked!
...
So stay strong and keep on dreaming about the future destinations!
...
Has it ever happened to you that you had to change travel plans, but went to the place later on?
...

Cause when they finally did the visits turned out to be so much better that they would have been if initial plan or timing worked!
    ...
So stay strong and keep on dreaming about the future destinations!
    ...
Has it ever happened to you that you had to change travel plans, but went to the place later on?
    ...

  • I’ve been talking about self-care and healthy habits for a while now and why they are SO important to my mental health. When I get lazy about self-care, every aspect of my world suffers. It’s one of the reasons I continue to be intentional with my routines. One of my hardest habits to break is waking up and immediately checking social media and my work emails. It takes away my ability to start my day in a positive and relaxing manner, and even though I know that, it’s still something I struggle with. Lately, I’ve been realizing that having a healthier habit to replace it makes the change just a bit easier. By having something in place, like a meditation routine, I can wake up and have a reason not to immediately check my online communications.
-
Beyond just meditation, @headspace is now offering a new collection, called The Wake Up, which is created for exactly that purpose: to start your day off with a healthy habit and continue throughout your day with a positive mindset. The Wake Up consists of new thought-provoking videos each morning, highlighting individuals around the world, their inspirational stories, and their best advice on kicking off your morning in the right way. By practicing self-care FIRST thing in the morning when I wake up, I’m able to set a precedent for the rest of my day and minimize both my stress and my anxiety. It’s these small actions that come together and truly make a difference for my mental health in the long-run.

The Wake Up is now available to all Headspace iOS members. How will you make sure you start off your day on the right foot? @headspace #ad #headspace

Either way it will defo come in handy and you’ll be happy to have them and not need them rather than need them and not have them ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • (8/55) Ireland 🇮🇪 💚 the country that started it all!

After my first year of university (where I completely bombed studying Behaviroual Neuroscience) I decided to take a gap year and go on a working holiday abroad at 19.

I chose Ireland which seemed like a great idea, but this happened to be during the 2008 global financial crises, and it was hit pretty hard. My first interaction inside the country was going through customs. The officer asked me why I was coming to Ireland and I told him to work. He literally laughed out told, told me ‘good luck’, and stamped my passport.

I had saved some money working in Alberta for a few months before so was able to get by, despite the bad economic climate. And by get by I mean my diet consisted of 2 Euro bottles of Tesco wine and pizza that my roommate would bring back from her job. But it was great.

It was the first time I traveled solo, and it opened my eyes to the the joys of that and the world of backpacking. The endless possibilities of adventure and meeting people from all over the world. It was the start of my first backpacking trip abroad (more stories on that to come), and it got me hooked. It ignited my passion for adventure travel which has become such an important part of my life.

First picture was taken last summer when I visited Ireland a decade later at 29. Second picture is from my time living there, standing outside our apartment with my two besties that I met there @olga_mariee @nicolaerinsmith 🥰

.
Valpo is one of the most decorated cities I’ve visited. Murals are everywhere and they actually pay professional artists to decorate the city. Chileans are some of the friendliest people I’ve met in my travels and they are by far the fastest Spanish speakers on the planet 🤣

  • HOW TO SPEND 4 DAYS IN SRI LANKA
⠀⠀
There’s enough to see in Sri Lanka to easily justify a visit of 1-2 weeks, but I only had a few days so it was tough to narrow down the options. Ultimately, my itinerary provided a taste of the variety in the country. 😍 If I had 1-2 more days, I would have added a visit to the tea plantations in Ella and a safari excursion along the way.
⠀⠀
In the end, I found a private driver to take me around for $400USD, including entry fees. ⠀⠀
If you plan to go, here’s my itinerary for inspo along with the number of km we drove that day:
⠀⠀
▪️DAY 1: Arrive in Colombo at night and drive to Sigiriya. Overnight in Sigiriya.(180km)
⠀⠀
▪️DAY 2: Visit Polonnarauwa’s ancient Kingdom in the morning. Then head to the Pidurangala Cave Temple and hike to the top for a view of Sigiriya Rock. Stay for sunset. Relax with an Ayurveda spa treatment in the evening. Overnight in Sigiriya. (130km)
⠀⠀
▪️DAY 3: Visit Sigiriya Rock in the morning and hike to the top. Drive to Dambulla Cave temple and visit the Buddhist shrines. Arrive in Kandy in the late afternoon and walk around the scenic lake. Enjoy a cultural show in the evening. Overnight in Kandy. (130km)
⠀⠀
▪️DAY 4: Visit the Tooth Relic Temple in the morning, then drive to Pinnawala to visit the elephant orphanages. Afterwards, head to Dalawella Beach in the afternoon. Visit the Galle Fort area for shopping and drinks before heading to the airport for a late night flight. (380km)
⠀⠀
If you’ve been to Sri Lanka, what other “can’t miss” spots are there?

⁣⁣
We talked all things travel related plus some extra important topics including personal and creative growth, mental health, community and finding your purpose. 🍋⚡️⁣⁣
⁣
We feel so inspired after hearing Ashlee’s story, and it shows us all how we can grow and find strength through times of hardship and uncomfortability. 💪🏾Ashlee also tells us what she’s discovered from the people she met while traveling, and the positive impact they’ve made on her life so far. It reminds us that travelling to new places can broaden our horizon, help us meet people who challenge our perception + open us up to new ways of thinking.💡⁣

If you missed the takeover grab a cuppa and head up to our highlights to catch up! ☕️ 💛⁣⁣

  • Ep 80 Tertiary Culture And Intercontinental Living with @TayoRockson
⠀⠀
Having spent most of his childhood years outside of his parents' culture, Tayo Rockson is known as a “TCK” or third culture kid. This week, Tayo describes how his unique experience having been the child of a diplomat and living in so many different countries has given him the knowledge base to help so many and accomplish all he’s done. Author, podcaster, entrepreneur, speaker and legit global citizen, Tayo’s perspective gave me quite the list of things to add to my “wisdom journal” (similar to a gratitude journal, but an ongoing list of new things you learn daily). Tune in.

  • Thank you.

I’d like to thank every single one of you.
Thank you for all positive messages, all support, everyone who’s been cheering us on, everyone who has helped us, everyone who has opened up their homes and offered us a place to stay/shower/get water and thank you for not thinking less of me when I ran out of energy.

I wish I could answer every single one of you in a better way, but I have tried my best to send a little thank you or a little heart at least.
I truly appreciate every single one of you.

It’s been a wild, stressful, exhausting and long journey but it has been so great to see how good humankind can be.

Thank you family, friends and strangers.
You’ve truly been the best.

⠀
Everyone should get a prize every evening for making it through the day right now. In that spirit, I think we should celebrate the little things in our isolated lives 🙌🏽 I'll start: today I spring-cleaned my room and reached 150 followers on Bloglovin'! Well done me! 👏🏽 *claps myself on the back*⠀

Let's spread some positivity! What little things are you celebrating today? 🎉⠀
