  • After gifting myself #996story on my 25th birthday, I christened her Eleanor (think of what had happened to the predecessor) #gonein60seconds 🚗💨
I intended on keeping her forever, but 2 days ago, I handed over the keys & the pink slip 🤧
She is in good hands, though! As for me, I’m sure there are more @porsche masterpieces in my future 💪🏻 #timewilltell

  • My husband sold his truck. He loved his truck so it's kinda bittersweet. He had two cars (a '95 Toyota Tacoma and a '94 Pontiac Sunbird) and he felt that for his commute (2 minutes) it didn't make sense to keep both anymore. They were both paid for. He thought long and hard about his decision. And ultimately, he decided that getting out of debt is more important to him and that his car was a material item. He feels that one day, when we're debt free and have money in the bank, he'll get another truck that he'll search far and high and be super picky about and will once again be paid for in cash. After all, he's a car guy! •
•
I let him make this decision on his own. Because the car was paid for, I didn't feel the need to get rid of it. Yes, the money will be helpful, but he loved his truck and I wasn't pushing him to make a decision that he'd regret. He found a 17 year old kid who just got his license and was so excited for this truck and my husband felt so happy finding a good home for it. •
•
Fun fact: the last time my husband sold a car that he owned, we took that money and went to Mexico for Christmas. Best vacation ever! 🏖☀️

Fun fact #2: this time, the money is going to pay off our 3rd Nelnet Loan!!! #changes

  • Well, the decision has been made and I sold my car!
.
I never thought this would be something I’d be willing/able to do in order to reduce my footprint. I may have been somewhat forced into this predicament because of the accident I was in, but it’s given me the opportunity to experiment with how feasible it really is to live without a car.
.
It’s been about a month now of being car-less while dealing with the repair shop and insurance company, and it’s been WAY easier than I expected and has so many unexpected benefits! Not having a car has forced me to slow down and plan my days out more thoughtfully. I find a lot more time to be present while either waiting for or riding the bus, or I get to spend some extra time with the people I love when I carpool with them. Feels good to reduce my carbon footprint and get creative with alternative ways of transport.
.
To be fair, I may still consider getting a new car when the winter comes around. It’s easy to get around without a car in the summer, but the winter will create new challenges. Either way, I’m excited to experiment and see how long I can pull this off for! .
