Society today is bent on the don't sleep you'll miss your chance mentality for understanding  success.

How ever, this is simply not functional or maintainable. There is to much going on in the body during our deep phases of sleep that we can not ignore and pass up with only 3-5 hrs of shut eye.

Study after study shows the major discrepancy between those who sleep 6-8 and those who don't. Its effects ripple across our day and hinders so many aspects of your life.

We see all sorts of evidence supported benefits to sleep from a multitude of aspects:
▫️Increased secretion of IGf1
▫️Increased protein synthesis ▫️Increased muscle recovery ▫️Decrease in ghrelin leading to controlled apitite ▫️ We also see a huge difference in fat mass lost between those who get adequate sleep and those who under sleep.
▫️Reduction in cortisol 
All of these things as a performance or physique based athelete need to take place, so to lose out on sleep means you lose on maximising your potential. .

  • “Sleep deprivation is a growing problem in schools, with students struggling to concentrate in lessons due to lack of sleep” - www.theguardian.com - If your child is finding it hard to concentrate in class ( and at home for that matter too), I really do encourage you to stop and have a really good think about their sleep habits. If they are going to bed late plus having extra late nights on the weekends, if they are waking during the night, rising early before morning time... chances they are sleep deprived and that will be hugely affecting their performance at at school. 
Super proud of my two little peanuts for getting Student of the Week Awards at school today. They sleep well and work hard in class. The look on their sweet little faces when they got called up at Assembly, just priceless! 💕

  • Hi I hope everyone is having a good week and staying healthy! I am currently still really sick and in bed. I’ve been resting and drinking a ton of water. Taking it easy is crucial with influenza. A lot of the times it can lead to other and worse infections such as sinus infections and pneumonia. The gym can wait. I took this about a week ago before I got sick. I miss the gym like crazy but right now all I’m focused on is feeling better. For everyone who isn’t sick please do an extra set or run that extra mile for me!! Not even just for me but for yourself! You’ll never know just how strong you are until you push your own limits!

  • Walking into the weekend feeling a little more like myself. It’s been a challenging week; I’ve been feeling fatigued, frustrated and my ability to focus has been shocking!

My conditioned reaction to when I’m not on my A game is to panic 🤯, put the pedal to the metal and focus on the lack of productivity..... NEWSFLASH this approach doesn’t serve anyone!

It doesn’t serve me, because my body is obviously tired and needs all the TLC it can get right now. I become agitated & fatigued using this conditioned approach.

In a society where self worth is often based on output and productivity, have you developed a back off method when your mind and body is clearly asking for it? Have you made this non negotiable?

Here are a couple of practices that may assist with giving you some time to recalibrate and back off. Rest assured tomorrow is a new day and with it comes new emotions, new perspectives and outlooks. ✅ Sleep on it! Seriously what’s the worst that can happen? The ego often likes to trick us into thinking that the world revolves around us and that the world will fall apart if we fail to complete a particular task. ✅ Go to bed earlier. This is so often overlooked! The quality and amount of sleep we get is paramount for overall health, both physical and mental. ✅ Ditch the sugar highs and lows. Opt for foods that will stabilise your blood sugar levels. Good fats, proteins and non starchy vegetables. Craving something sweet? Raw cacao is a great pick me up for the afternoon slump. Note it does contain caffeine; carob is a caffeine free alternative. ✅ Get up from your work space and take a walk around the block, or find a quite space to centre and ground. Try to avoid using your phone and connecting to your surroundings. What can you see, hear, smell and feel? That email or text will still be there when you return (I promise!). I would love to hear what your back off methods look like. Life is a continuous dance 💃 working out what suits you best and how you best operate. Be gentle with yourself, because if you’re not, how do you expect other to be?
