  • 2019 has been a real year of reflection and growth for me. I’ve learned things I didn’t realize I needed to know. First, I thought a person’s environment was the larger part of who they become. Now, I’m not so sure. Innate nature is so huge. I’d seen it some in my own children, but never really knew how to look for that in myself. Most people will never find themselves closely related to total strangers. It is absolutely unnerving to find similarities with people you don’t know when you’ve never shared traits with anyone. I’ve wanted to jump out my skin a couple of times seeing my own expressions on someone else’s face, hearing my words out of someone else’s mouth. • • • • • • • • • • • Second, life is totally unexplainable. How could these events transpired in this way? How could I spend so many years studying things that would be helpful to a brother I didn’t even know about? How could I come into everyone’s life at such a time of transition? I’m not religious anymore, but it’s enough to believe in a higher power at work. • • • • • • • • • • • Finally, and it sounds cliche, but you can’t understand yourself without knowing who you come from. I love my family that I grew up with. I was afforded every opportunity for personal growth. But I lacked context. Your roots give you a chance to examine to look at those around you, and see yourself reflected back in their actions and thought processes. It helps you to see ways you can be successful and ways that you fall short. And it gives you validation for the way you think and the way you work through life’s problems. I have learned so much about myself in this process. I’m so glad that I’m lucky enough to gain these things and get to know so many cool people that I’m related to. I feel as though I’m finally removing the watch face and seeing how all the cogs in my brain are fit together. Not everybody has that chance. #adoption #adopted #adultadoptee #family #growth #tiesthatbind #siblings #spiritual #unexpected #brothersister #disabilityadvocate #cerebralpalsy #naturevsnurture #innate #cerebralpalsykids #personaljourney

  • I want to tell my Daddy a very Happy 60th Birthday, we all love you so much and appreciate all that you are and all that you do, and happy we all decided to stop and take the time to come and be together from all over the nation, to have this quality time with one another in one city at one time! Family over everything!

  • Your big sister, a pianist, picked up the violin as her second instrument and you love playing review songs with her. Transposing book one songs and using different hand positions is good for you, having a rhythm and intonation buddy is good for her and seeing you two make music together is good for me. 😍
