A bit late to the game, Tenjin is the latest Tendon specialty shop to have opened way after the wave of such shops and the trend having passed for quite some time. Moving into space which belonged to the now-defunct Circa 1912, Tenjin is situated in between Indigo Blue Kitchen and Kausmo at Shaw Centre. The Toku-jo is the Premium bowl here, consisting of Tempura pieces such as Anago, Crab Leg, Prawn, Fish, Vegetables and Freedom Range Egg, all the Tendons here come with Miso Soup and Kyabetsu Salad by the side, and an option to choose between Spicy Tare or Regular Tare for the choice of sauce. Going for the Tempura pieces, we liked how the Tempura pieces were pretty well-executed; the seafood being fresh with its moisture locked in while being encased in a light and airy Tempura batter that is crisp and not particularly greasy. The various vegetables such as the pumpkin, Shiso Leaf, and eggplant provided various textures to the bowl; the pumpkin and eggplant maintained a soft texture, while the Shiso Leaf was light and crisp — the Shiitake Mushroom also adding a bouncy bite within the light and crisp batter. Hidden beneath all the condiments, the Freedom Range Egg is also encased in the same batter — a poke from the chopstick sees the yolk eagerly bursting out, providing the fluffy, short-grain rice with a silkier touch; the rice comes drizzled with the Regular Tare (which we opted) that carried a sweet-savoury note that was not excessive or pudding at the bottom of the bowl. A pretty well-executed Tendon here; one of the better bowls out there; while this is more on the pricier side at $22.80, the two other bowls are priced below $15 before taxes and prevailing charges — a place to hit for those Tendon cravings without the queue (for now, that is).

  • Yay it’s Fryay!!! Dreaming of great brunches again, like this one from Dark Coffee Roasters!  Our “new” find in Bangkok, Dark is a great alternative to Roast as it opens at 8.30 daily!  The brunch menu and food is good but the standout here must be their coffee!  Good body and fragrant, just look at their latte art!!! 😍🥰 And every cup was different!  That beats Roast hands down!

It’s a shame the owners couldn’t work something out with the landlord. This restaurant has been the place for some of the best chicken rice and Peranakan classics for the last 32 years (I’ve enjoyed many meals growing up in this neighbourhood). And while it’s said that you might still be able to order it’s famed fish head curry at its more casual outpost (Pow Sing Kitchen) located a few doors down from its original home, fans of Pow Sing Restaurant will have to head to its latest opening at Jewel Changi Airport (B1-201/202, opp A&W) for their fix. #lostheritage #sgstalwart #heritagefoods #chickenrice #peranakancuisine #sgeats

I’ve never really tried Taiwanese food, even more so been to Taiwan, but this made me feel like I’ve got to experience a little part of Taiwan. Was really so impressed by the lu Rou fan’s taste, how the sauce blanketed the rice and each spoon just packed an amazing punch. As for the noodles, the beef brisket was really tender, and they gave generous portions of noodles, and the soup is refillable as well!! The chicken cutlet really hit the spot as well... was so cripsy, well battered and seasoned, absolutely love it. Even the appetiser , which was the tofu, was so refreshing and tasty with the sauce given. And the cafe has amazing lunch sets where you can get a drink at a cheaper price. I was expecting the milk tea, to be really sweet, and have mediocre boba. But I was sooooo wrong. This boba took me by surprise as it was sooooo soft, and easy to chew. Making the drink easy to drink , and it wasn’t sweet as well. The winter melon drink was just so rejuvenating and it was mixed with lemon. .

Overall, this place really made my belly super happy. You should definitely give it a go if you want to try Taiwanese food as it’s delicious and very worth its price!!!! 👍🏼🤤

Really nice cosy dessert place located near bugis, that’s amazing for supper because it closes real late! Ordered 🌻Steamed milk with egg white,🌻 HK red bean ice drink,🌻Yam Sago .

Super worth the prices paid for the dessert. They served it really fast as well as soon as you ordered it. The texture of the the steamed egg was like a pudding, and it had a rich milky flavour to it. If you like a more custard taste, egg take the one with the egg yolk. The drink felt like I was drinking a red bean potong ice cream!!! And the yam sago was served with generous amounts of yam and it tasted actually like burburchacha!!!! What a simple, nostalgic dessert. Just beware of the long queues, as they have limited seating as well. But the queue should clear fast if people just eat their desserts and leave without having a HTHT session 🤪 Its a definite YAY if you’re looking for simple traditional Chinese desserts eg almond paste, rice balls, etc...

I just love it when stall owners are not kiam siap with the laksa leaves. Comes with scallop and prawns, so it's not too ridiculously priced. We're excited to check out the new space at 1008A Toa Payoh North where Don's taken over the entire coffeeshop - nothing fancy decor- or ambience-wise, but seems it will be bringing back the brand's pies, start serving more zichar options and even prata - when they find a suitable prata guy, that is.

  • The sandwich I had here was an absolute delight. The bread was toasted impeccably, and the ingredients in the different layers were very well-proportioned, making every bite an absolute delight. Even the cherry tomato on the side was no mere after-thought.

  • Course 2/5 [Gourmand Menu] Scampi with caramelised white miso made with Amalfi lemon, coconut, lime, then topped with Vietnamese rice cooked with hazelnut oil. 
Explosive flavors from the well balanced miso paste, paired with the most tender and juicy scampi. The crunch from the Vietnamese rice puffs added nice textures with a nutty aroma!
