A note from one of our designers, Katy:  Sometimes it can feel very challenging to decipher ‘our style’. Whether we like the pictures in a home magazine or walk into a friend’s home and feel instantly relaxed and comfortable can depend on whether it appeals to our sense of style.

To style well, the layout and placement of pieces of furniture and decor in a room need to work well together. There is an art to styling and design and although our emotions and creativity set the direction along the path there are rules and guidelines that result in a space with style. If you are struggling to find your style, need help setting up or making over a space or want assistance with the finishing touches, Katy or Angie can help with styling your space.

And don’t worry, the current version of the UX Knowledge Base Sketches (on the uxknowledgebase.com website) will be free forever. ☕ My intention is to create a useful coffee table book, and I want to keep its price as low as possible (just to cover shipping costs), since it’s not about making profit, it’s about sharing my knowledge with as many designers (and aspiring designers) as possible! 📙 .

And of course I won’t stop producing content for the community, however, I’m going to try out different formats & techniques. There are so many more tools, methods, laws, patterns to cover & explain! 😊 One of my ideas is to create smaller, easily comprehensible sketches, so for instance instead of UX Knowledge Base Sketches, I’m going to create UX Knowledge Piece Sketches: tiny chunks of UX wisdom presented in the form of my sketching style. 📝 .

User interviews are actually one of my favorite research methods. But they serve a very specific purpose.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What user interviews CAN do = tell you how people think, feel, and how they talk about something. Super valuable, especially for content!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What user interviews CAN NOT do = predict future behavior, quantify or measure behaviors, test the usability your thing, etc. Interviews just aren’t the right method for any of that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, should you talk to your users? YES! Just make sure you’re asking questions that will give you insights that matter. There’s often a mismatch between what people think they want, what they really need, what’s possible, etc. If you need it, I’ve got a beginners guide to user interviews in the articles” on my website.
