  • So if you recall my first ever seafood boil 🌽🥔🍋🦀🦞 experience in Orlando at Hot n Juicy a few months ago, you'll know how excited my friends and I were to try this one by @battersandbits at the Pop Up Shop I attend on the weekend. It didn't require a pricey airline ticket so already it had points inside 🤣⁣
⁣
I will come straight out and say that as much as I tried to judge this without comparing it to Hot n Juicy, I had to because it was my only point of reference. So....was it as good as my first encounter⁉ NO, but it's not an 🍎-to-🍎 comparison, as I believe having FRESH seafood makes a difference and they are an established Seafood Restaurant, with years of experience in perfecting their craft. That being said, here are the highlights...⁣
⁣
The soft shell crab was GREAT 😋, texture of the meat was lighter than the snow crab. The shell was definitely soft, almost like phyllo pastry but I was too coward to swallow as is PLUS, I've only ever seen it eaten whole when fried - which I think would be best way. The mussels, shrimp, potatoes and corn were spot on 👌🏽. I'm not a sausage person but I tasted the kielbasa and that too was good. My friend Ava LOVES anything meat, so my remaining sausages were passed on to her, who ironically I nickname Ms. 🐷ggy ...🤭🤣 (if yuh know, yuh know) ⁣
⁣
Although we ate it room temperature, the sauce - (though highly seasoned) was a bit too salty for me. It also didn't have the kick 🔥 I was expecting for the Cajun Spice.⁣
⁣
Still what was done was note worthy 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽because in terms of the ingredients used - it was ON POINT. I never had soft shell crab before and this afforded me the opportunity. ⁣
⁣
Total cost was $180TT / $27US for: ⁣
⁣
10 🍤(6 large , 4 avg szd)⁣
8 mussels (black and green lip)⁣
1 entire kielbasa link ⁣
4 crawfish 🦞⁣
6 mini potatoes ⁣
4 🌽 pieces⁣
2 pieces of soft shell sweet 🦀⁣
1 piece of snow crab ⁣
Garlic bread ⁣
😱😱😱⁣
⁣
It was definitely value for money in terms of amount 👍🏽 and is in a solid 2nd place after Hot n Juicy 🤭⁣
⁣
There's a place in South that does it as well - I may pay them a visit soon and see what their catch 🎣 is like 😁⁣

  • I spent my first day off from running the diner going all out on my favorite meal of the day: brunch. Luckily, I had these breakfast sausage patties I made late last month stashed in the freezer. Pass an 80-20 ratio of pork shoulder/Boston butt and double-smoked bacon once through your grinder then combine with sage, thyme, maple syrup, smoked paprika, garlic, fennel seeds, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Form into 4-oz. patties or whichever size you prefer, refrigerate, and use the day after so the flavors have time to really get together. So far, mine have been in the freezer for 24 days and they still taste great. Besides frying them in a hot cast iron pan(make sure to get a good sear!), I imagine this would be great crumbled up and used as a base for a gravy to serve with biscuits—now there’s an idea. #breakfastsausage #sausage #porkshoulder #bostonbutt #homecookingbyasm
