  • We found out today was a National Holiday for all rescue dogs! To celebrate we went to Pershing Square, after matcha, coffee & pastry from Spring for Coffee. Then, for lunch we had French “Chouquettes!!!”🤪 by the park. By the time we got to Ross, Beetle was soo pooped🙈he just curled into this bed - But don’t we have to pay for it first?! 🤔What a wonderful way to celebrate our freedom 🦋🦋 Happy National Rescue Dog Day friends!! 🦊🐼💛Rufus & “Beetle” (aka Beetlejuice, former Oreo) Rescued from our heros @dogswithoutborders #nationalrescuedogday #dogswithoutborders #fosteringsaveslives #rescuebrothers #rescuedogs #happylives #celebratelife 🐶

It’s National Rescue Dog Day!⠀
⠀
I wanted to join in the fun by posting a pic of the day we brought home our sweet pittie mix, Lolly Pup, from @lakeshore_paws!⠀
⠀
As I looked back over my photos, I realized we got her on May 23, 2016.⠀
⠀
It’s almost 3 years ago to the day.⠀
⠀
Happy National Rescue Dog Day! ⠀
⠀
🐶❤️🐶❤️🐶⠀
⠀
And yes, her left ear is always up and the right one stays down. It’s her signature look!

  • My post from 4 yrs ago. We lost Sophie in late 2016. We found her by chance, living in a kill shelter in NC. She had been scheduled to be put down several times but the staff saved her from week to week because they knew if someone would give her a chance, she would make a great pet. We gave her that chance and she never disappointed. She was the best girl and I can't believe it's only been 3 yrs since she left us. It feels like forever!! 😭😭💜💜💜#rescue #rescuedogs #rescuedogsofinstagram #adoptdontshop

  • Happy rescue dog day! Vee was my first dog out on my own, from Forever Home Greyhound Rescue. She never raced due to a leg injury as a puppy. Love at first sight when she came to an adoption clinic at Bensons. I picked my entire life up and moved apartments for this dog as the apartment at the time wasn’t dog friendly.
We found Dundee in October of 2017. Went to meet him after a girl who worked at the shelter but shopped at Bensons told me about him. We don’t know his history, but chances are good he was given up due to separation anxiety. He was clearly never crated in his prior life. Dundee is a good example of why to research the breed your getting, even if it is a mutt, a general understanding of the traits of the breeds mixed is good information to have to help decide if a dog is right for you. Kevin and Dundee were clearly meant to be and we took him home that day.

Both of these dogs have taught me a lot about dogs, training, and life.
Vee taught me how to unconditionally love another being and to be less selfish, reminds me to be patient, how to think outside of the box, and that some things aren’t worth stressing over.

Dundee has taught me how to be more encouraging to others and not let my negative emotions get the best of me. He teaches me patience, understanding, and empathy. He teaches me to be in the present. He is the most selfless creature I have ever met and I aspire to be more like him.

Dogs are so incredible and they come into our lives I truly believe to teach us specific lessons if we choose to listen. These dogs all make my life richer and better. I am a better person because they push me to be. My dogs remind me that we are all a constant work in progress and we are all still learning how best to communicate with each other.

I hope someday to be half the person they think I am. #dogs #greyhound #australianshepherd #aussiesofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #greyhoundsofinstagram #love #patience #kindness #empathy #rescuedogs #rescuedogday

  • It's national rescue dog day! I'm so happy that Winston came into our lives through @redemptionpaws and @hotmesspooches ♥️♥️ he was the only puppy born in a litter from a back yard breeder and surrendered after three years with his owner. The beginning wasn't easy but now I can't imagine a life without him. He brings me joy every day. #dogs #rescuedogs #adoptdontshop #dalmatian

  • 🐾💗🐾💗🐾💗🐾💗🐶💗🐾💗🐾💗🐾 This post I write through happy tears!
As one of his many volunteer advocates, I am bursting with joy to announce that our big boy Chaos the Cane Corso has been adopted!! He has been in his new home for over 5 weeks and is doing great! He has three human siblings and a female canine sibling. His mom is an experienced big dog owner and took the two dogs introduction very slow. So far she reports Choas fits right in!
We must thank our trainer Frank of Behavior Plus for Chaos’s initial evaluation and help in his new home. Thank you Volunteer Handlers John & Mary Breen and Len for their endless patience and structure for Chaos. A big thanks to Victoria, Adam and Kristi for caring for Chaos day in and day out! A very special thanks to Doug Hadyak for transporting Chaos to and from his new home for meet and greets and conducting the in home evaluation. It took a team effort but after 7 months at the shelter Chaos is finally home....

  • ❤️Do we go to the same hairdresser?❤️ This Golden Doodle🐾was irresistible and his owner was so gracious to let me share a photo shoot at @petsmart. 🥰. Tails That Teach, Inc. founded National Rescue Dog Day to honor the inspiring ways rescue dogs become apart of the human family and to increase awareness about the number of dogs in shelters.🐾 ❤️Rescue dogs often overcome extreme obstacles and yet provide comfort, security, and friendship as family pets and are capable of much more. With training, they help the independence of people with disabilities as service animals and give comfort to the elderly. In these circumstances, they become our eyes, ears, or legs as well as our best friend. Rescue dogs provide a variety of therapeutic benefits too. Children, teens, and adults with autism may benefit from services provided by a trained dog and they are emotional support companions, to help to relieve anxiety, depression, and PTSD among the military or those who suffer from other mental illness.❤️
🐾They make excellent teachers, too. Rescue dogs show children about caring and kindness and can even be trained for search and rescue missions for safety.🐾
When it comes to four-legged friends, they improve the human condition by leaps and bounds, barks, and yips. It’s hard to imagine a more loving, worthy companion. According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year. When these animals find their way to a shelter, they have often been abandoned or abused. 🐾🙏🏻 No matter their size, color, or breed, dogs will find a way to nuzzle, fetch, or beg their way into your heart and home.
