  • Just finished "Elephants on acid". Excellent book for those intrigued by past physiological, social and psychological experiments. Alex Boese' next book "Hippo eats Dwarf" is my next read- delving into those myths and legends and how the originated.

  • 🌼🌼🌼 BOOK REVIEW 🌼🌼🌼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw - 4.75 / 5
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This was SO close to 5 stars. It tells the story of three sisters accused of being witches and murdered and the curse they put on a small coastal town.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I loved the legend and folklore, the witchcraft, the story, the rainy seaside setting, the tragedy. It was all so great apart from the glaring plothole in the curse and I wasn't too keen on parts of the ending. Seeing as I try keep my reviews spoiler-free, you'll have to DM me to discuss! But, yeah, almost perfect but personally there were some parts I just couldn't get behind. Definitely one I'd recommend though, especially if you like witches and legend.

  • Part 4
-
Meanwhile, in the Jedi Temple library, Master Qui Gon Jin was looking in the archives, looking for any instances of traveling through portals. His padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with dozens of Jedi, were also doing the same thing, in their curiosity. Master Jocasta asked Obi-Wan “are you having a busy day?” To which he responded “it seems we’re all confused with that UFC that appeared at Naboo for a while.”
-
“Guys,” exclaimed Yarael Poof, the long necked Jedi, “Master Yoda told me to tell you these news. He said he felt a strange disturbance in the force, and it was constantly there ever since the arrival of that mystery ship.”
-
“Do you think a Jedi could be on board the UFC?” Asked Obi Wan. “Maybe, but we should be cautious, my padawan. If I remember correctly, this unidentifiable cruiser lacks some features of a typical republic cruiser, such as red paint on the sides, an extended rear, and a hangar on the top. I will explain this to the council during the next meeting.”
-
Meanwhile, on the Star Destroyer, the Captain lined up all the imperial officers for a meeting. “Listen, my officers, we’re gonna have to face it: we have no reinforcements, no contact with the other imperials in the other time era. This means we’ll have to rely on ourselves, and, if possible, turn ourselves in to the Republic authorities.”

  • “Well, it’s part of a longer quote, this really beautiful passage about how the best you can ever do is to leave the world a little better than you found it. It doesn’t matter how you do it. Invent a new toaster or reach out a helping hand; just you know, leave it a little better than you found it. “ Never Always Sometimes, Adi Alsaid

I finished this book a while ago, but forgot to do a review. I’d give this book a 3/5. I liked it (a lot more than everyone else) but when I read other reviews I understood why the book wasn’t such a favorite. It was kind of too repetitive and the ending wasn’t really what I hoped for. I found myself annoyed with the main characters as the story kept going. ————————

  • Oi gente.

Eu ri, me emocionei, torci, acreditei; muitas vezes também me vi nelas.

  • “I'd rather take coffee than compliments just now.”
— Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
.
Hello angels! I hope that you are all okay. 🤍 I was a hard time at work during the last hour but I’m still too happy from yesterday to care (check out my stories haha).
.
Anyway let’s wrap-up last week! I read three books, which is my usual. I first read Little Women and adored it, so I gave it 4.5 stars. Then I read Not If I See You First which I disliked a lot for many reasons (2.5 stars) but after that I read Outmatched... which is the first romance book to actually make me happy ever since 2015. I gave it 4 stars!
.
Right now I’m reading my ARC of Chain of Gold and trying not to die (it’s hard because I waited for this book for 5+ years). I hope to read three books again but I have a busy week!
.
What about you? What are you reading and what did you read last week? ✨

  • @simonteen #partner | Although I’m sad to be home from my trip, I AM really excited to dive back into my TBR pile! At the top of this endless stack is Sandhya Menon’s upcoming release — OF CURSES AND KISSES. As soon as I heard about this book, I knew I had to get my hands on it 🤓. Not only is Sandhya Menon one of my favorite YA authors, but her latest novel is ALSO a contemporary spin on Beauty and the Beast, one of my favorite classic fairytales. And if that wasn’t reason enough to read this gem, it’s only book one of Menon’s brand new series set at an international boarding school. In other words, this is bound to be EPICALLY FANTASTIC 🤗 (yes, I’m just a tad excited). Keep an out for this release on February 18th!

  • I think I can officially say I’m a Reid & Lou stan! 👏🏻 I enjoyed this book so stinking much!⁣
⁣
I LOVE a good enemies to lovers trope and I thoroughly enjoyed that aspect. If you aren’t on board with this trope, then this probably isn’t the right book for you considering this is what the main plot relies heavily upon. ⁣
⁣
Even though the first half of this book was rather cringey at parts, I was able to appreciate Lou’s character and grew to love her even more as she matured. I liked the inner conflict Lou has about what’s good and/or evil and I cannot WAIT to see where this story goes! ⁣
⁣
While there was a couple minor things that didn’t make sense to me in the beginning that I didn’t enjoy, the majority of this book I absolutely loved and adored. ♥️ The entire book was well paced and it was so well written for being a debut!

  • (#gifted @bloomsburypublishing) I audibly squealed when I opened the parcel containing A Long Petal of the Sea the other week! Isabel Allende penned one of my favourite books of all time (House of the Spirits) so it felt slightly surreal to be gifted this incredible author’s newest book to review on my page - thank you so much @bloomsburypublishing! 😍
.
A Long Petal of the Sea is a work of historical fiction, following the lives of a young doctor and a pianist, a brother- and sister-in-law who are forced to flee Barcelona for Chile during the Spanish Civil War. Few people set personal stories and journeys against epic historical backdrops and pulls off both aspects so perfectly as Allende. I have high hopes for this one, which has been translated by duo Amanda Hopkinson and Nick Caistor ☺️
.
Have you read any Allende? I know one of the @thereadingwomen prompts for the #ReadingWomenChallenge is ‘Read a book by Isabel Allende’ so I’m sure lots of you will be picking her up! I’ve read 7 of her books so far (with varying degrees of success to be perfectly honest), but I can definitely recommend House of the Spirits, Eva Luna, Daughter of Fortune and Portrait in Sepia 🙌

  • “I don’t know how long we’d simply sat there in silence and looked out at the sea and the sky, and suddenly I was no longer sure when he’d first mentioned the girl in his story. They were on the beach railway, the sky glowing red in the East, but it wasn’t the sunset. His young cousin Karli walked through the almost-empty carriages of the beach railway in his inspector’s uniform, far too big for him, the old man sat in the driver’s cab and turned the big cranks and levers, and she sat behind him and looked over his shoulder at the tracks ahead of them. Winter and snow and a sky above the sea like in late summer.”

the stories in this collection are about lonely people who find human connection in unlikely places. i usually need lyrical prose that’s almost poetic to feel connected to a character or story but meyer’s writing isn’t lyrical, in that way. he doesn’t describe or even detail how characters feel, instead, he focuses on the character’s movements and gestures, the way the dark settles after the sun, or the way each character interacts with another. he describes a scene to set the mood, and the mood is moving and tender as we get to know each character.
i would recommend this if you’re a fan of short stories. it’s worth a read.
