  • Birthday dinner number two at @caro.mio.chicago last night:  1) pillow soft gnocchi in a killer porcini sauce. Not on the menu but they will make it every time; 2) cavatelli con salsiccia in a tasty pesto sauce; 3) ravioli with oil and garlic; 4) agnelotti rossini stuffed with ricotta with prosciutto and peas; 5) pollo all arrabiata; 6) pappardelle all arrabiata con gambieri; 7) salmone alla grilla; 8) large house salad; and finally 9) lemon tartufo for the birthday girl. We were so full by then that’s all we had room for.  BYOB keeps it fairly reasonable. It is some of the best Italian food in the city. If you think of happy hour then Cactus Club is definitely top of the list. Their happy hour is one of the best, with great deals on food AND drinks. With 2 happy hour times, afternoon and late night, its the perfect place to meet with friends or family any time of the day. 
My favourites on the menu include their ravioli prawn duo (which is now available as a trio!!), truffle fries, prawn spaghettini and their steak frites! Drinks have got to be their Kyoto cocktail, belinni and ginger smash! 
You know you’re getting good food, drinks and service when you’re going to Cactus Club, and with multiple locations across BC theres definitely a cactus for you to try out nearby!

  • Some of my very 1st cooking inspirations started @holiday_market_ro . Back in the 90's my dad and I would go and gather some quality ingredients then head on back home to his place and begin creating some of the most delicious dishes - one of my favorites was hand made ravioli. ⠀

It's been years since I've been in and even though the store has had some changes I can still remember walking down the aisles. Great to stop in yesterday to pick up a cannoli - man it was delicious! Brought me back in time!⠀

  • every time @winniesbalance_ posts her ravioli, it always makes me want ravioli and this time i actually remembered to pick some up. i got the @traderjoes goat cheese and sun dried tomato ravioli for the first time- highly recommend. also this is proof that meals don’t always turn out perfectly and that’s okay- the salmon totally stuck to the pan and flaked into a million pieces 🤷🏻‍♀️ i put it back together the best i could and ate it. still good. // pan seared wild alaskan salmon with broccolini and ravioli mixed with @delallofoods pesto. #ravioli #traderjoesfinds #seafood2xwk

  • It’s national eating disorder awareness week 💚.

There was a point in time where I was genuinely convinced I didn’t have a life outside of anorexia. I thought it was just who I was. Never did I ever ever ever think I would be where I am today, pursuing a career in the field of the exact thing that controlled me, with such a clear purpose guiding me. I never thought I’d be able to go out to eat without crippling fear again, never thought my hair would stop falling out, never thought I’d feel warm again, never thought I’d be able to focus on conversations and concentrate on simple tasks without crazy fog, thought I’d be isolated forever, never thought I’d be me again. Sure, i have days where I’m tired and it’s harder to get out of bed, but my hardest days  today pale in comparison to the difficulty that was waking up each morning when my ED was in control.

I don’t think about my past ED much anymore because i am so far removed from it, but advocacy for ED recovery (among tons of other things now bc there’s so much dang room up in ya noggin when it’s not longer filled w ED thoughts) is still something i am passionate about and i think that’s evident with much of what i share on this account. When I do reflect on my own past though, sometimes it still feels surreal in the absolute best way that I am who I was meant to be and I take up space and I do things and i have opinions and voice them and I’m not afraid. But most of the time it just feels normal and easy- how it was in my early teens before the mess started.

Through everything my ED put me through my body never gave up on me. It sent me signs for sure but it did what it had to do to keep me alive. I can (and do) try but I don’t think I can ever thank it enough.

  • Recovering from a week of pasta by staring at photos of pasta. 🤓 Missing this first attempt at culurgiones because even though my folding needs work, these potato, mint, and pecorino-filled Sardinian ravioli tasted so. freakin. good. Most of my recipe testing results in leftovers... this one didn’t even come close. 👌 A massive thank you to all who came out and supported me this week (in person and from afar!)—I met so many wonderful people and couldn’t be more excited by the power of pasta to bring us all together! Hope you’re all having a fantastic Sunday! 💗

  • Tortelloni: another Bologna staple that today will adorn my Italian table in Sydney.

One of my first shape of pasta I learned to make in 2017, when I spent a few months in Bologna, studying how to master different flours and mix them properly with eggs or water.

Makes 3-4 servings:

Mix 180g all purpose flour (or 00), 20g semolina wheat flour with 2 eggs. Mix with a fork until everything is mixed, then knead for about 15 minutes until soft and smooth. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.

In the meanwhile, mix in a bowl 200g fresh ricotta, 25g grated Parmesan, a pinch of salt, a handful chopped parsley and a large pinch of freshly grated nutmeg. 
Once ready, roll out your dough, cut it into 7 cm squares. Place a spoon of filling in the middle of each square of pasta. Fold the square into a triangle. Gently press to seal the edges working your way along the sides. Roll the corners around two fingers at the bottom and press to seal.

For a creamier and more delicate taste use 150g ricotta and 50g mascarpone.
