  • These muffins. They represent more than their gluten free deliciousness. My boy woke up and ate food he wasn’t supposed to eat. Then he went into his sisters room and woke them up instead of us. When we woke up he lied to both of us on multiple occasions about the food and reasons why he didn’t come wake us up, telling me he thought I would tell him he couldn’t eat breakfast. We actually don’t even ask anymore. We use “I know you did this, and now this is how we are going to deal with it.” We were met with adamant refusal as usually happens. “I did not do that!” For two years we have asked this boy to come straight to our room when he wakes up. We’ve explained to him it is to keep him safe and help him make good choices. We tell him he can snuggle with us (one of his favorite things). He still does not do it. And finds himself roaming the house (or hotel as it were) and doing whatever he wants before anyone can see him. Because he ate his snack in the morning, the discipline was that he could not eat the special breakfast we planned for the family. I had alluded to this the day before when he decided to do something when he wanted and refused to wait for the family. I told him if he could show he wanted to be a part of the family then maybe we could all have a special treat together as a family. Our boy cried big tears when he did not get his muffin which led to all four screaming in a car without air conditioning because the energy was real you guys. We used it to teach coping. One of our major goals. Can you cope in a healthy way with how upset you feel or are you going to lie, steal, run away, shut down? We walked him through how to FEEL his feelings and sit there for a moment. But then walked him through moving past that feeling. It took a while to break it but I finally made him run. Pound the pavement and let the endorphins release. It’s what I often need to move on and am not using enough for myself these days. And it worked. Like a switch. Happy heart and ready to enjoy the beach. #RAD #reactiveattachmentdisorder #dailystruggles #adoption #fostercare #trauma

  • Top or Bottom? | Let’s pretend it’s 1989 and you have the option to purchase a final year 930 Turbo with G50 transmission or the Ferrari Testarossa with its mighty flat-12. To help your decision, let’s break it down:
————
1989 Porsche Turbo Coupe
•0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds
•Curb weight of 2,976 lbs
•282 hp & 157 mph top speed
•Original MSRP of approx. $71,000
OR
1988 Ferrari Testarossa
•0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds •Curb weight 3,650 lbs
•390 hp & 176 mph top speed
•Original MSRP of approx. $180,000
————
After driving both, each car is remarkable in their own way. The Porsche feels a lot lighter than the Ferrari as one would expect with the weight difference. The turbo is very nimble whereas the Testarossa is cumbersome but lightens up at higher speeds. The 89’s G50 5-Speed transmission surely makes a difference giving you more legs on the highway. Though the ferrari has a lot more horsepower, the Turbo feels almost just as fast likely because of the way the turbo delivers it with a jolt of power. Aesthetically speaking, the Porsche has such a timeless look whereas the Testarossa’s design is so indicative of the period in which it was constructed which is also very cool. With pricing a factor and Testarossa’s going for much more than sticker when first released, the Turbo provides a lot of car for the money without breaking the bank. All things considered, we would go with the Turbo but the Testarossa sure makes a statement!
