S U N D A Y ’ S outfit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
M O N D A Y ’ S thoughts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve all been there. You buy something cheap or cheaply made. Or both.
Wear it a few times. Maybe a few more.
It wears out, gets a hole. stretches out, fades, rips a seam or pills.
Double-tap if you’ve been there. It’s actually really frustrating, isn’t it?! It ends up in the trash (maybe you donated and it still isn’t able to go to good use). The water, the fibers, the labor, the emissions… all the resources used to create that one piece, now in a landfill.
Made from polyester or other synthetic fibers…? Could take upwards of 200 Y E A R S to decompose. And as clothes decompose, harmful gases are released, dyes leak into the soil and they also contaminate water.
Aside from those things - I can’t shake the feeling of just how wasteful this is in the name of a good deal, the desire for something new or to stay on top of the trends of the time.
In 1960, Americans put 1,710 tons of textiles into landfills. In 2015… 10,530 tons (epa.gov). We are literally treating clothing like trash.
A simple way to stop contributing to this (and I think… be happier with your closet)…? Choose quality over quantity. Instead of buying four $10-20 tops that you’ll wear just a few times… choose one, well-made top for $50 or $60 that you’ll go back to season after season. Or try to find that well-made piece on Poshmark for less!

Are you on board? Do you have a favorite piece you invested in that you continue to wear? Let’s get a running list going in the comments celebrating these pieces!

More ideas on simple ways we can all be more conscious coming this week… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #whomademyclothes #qualityoverquantity #capsulewardrobe #dresswithless #capsulecloset #consciouscloset #slowfashion #mamastyle #everydaystyle #wasteless #qualityclothing #everydaydressing #buylesschoosewell #inmynisolos

  • HOW TO LOOK PUT TOGETHER WHEN LAYERING
_
The seasons are finally changing which means LAYERING! This is a favorite time of year in the Sethi household because it allows for some creative outfits, new combinations of clothing all while looking stylish.
_
I personally am a big fan of layering because I run cold. ALWAYS COLD. So this gives me the flexibility to adjust to temperatures quickly while looking put together.
_
When I layer for myself, or clients, I always focus on the fundamentals:
✔️Start with core colors. Yes I'm talking about core colors again (navy, grey, white, black), these are easiest colors that not only look sophisticated together but with other colors as well.
✔️Work with luxe fabrics that are lightweight. A personal favorite of mine is Cashmere for Fall- as seen in the grey turtleneck that I'm wearing. Wearing lighter weight fabrics allows for you to layer different pieces without getting to 110 body temperature.
It also allows for you to layer comfortably under your overcoat!
✔️Keep it simple! By making sure that you have the right foundational wardrobe for your body type and lifestyle-- the right pieces in the right colors and fit-- you'll be able to layer like a pro. Seriously you can't go wrong! Layering will seem much harder when your closet is disjointed with hard to match colors, prints, items that don't fit and more.
_
Tag a friend that would look great in a layered outfit! 👇
