Push-up common mistakes.

Common mistake: Allowing your hips to fall toward the floor. When this happens, it places a lot of stress on your lower back. 
Keep core activated and back straight (neutral position).
.
In video no’ 3 you can see the active muscles which assist us keep our back straight (neutral position).
.
Sore wrists during push-up?
Palms flat on the floor can lead to pain and nerve problems.
A safer position for the wrist joint is supporting on bars or handles.
Another variation is push-ups on fists.
Advantage: Keeping the wrist locked in a straight position.
Disadvantage: Requires preliminary training of wrist stabilizers.

  • SPICE UP YOUR PUSH UPS⚡️

1️⃣The first exercise will challenge multiple factors. This includes stabilization( via the bosu ball), resistance from the band and resistance from the load( weight on back)while performing a push up. .
2️⃣The second exercise will challenge core strength will the sliders while performing a push up once again.
.
3️⃣For the third exercise we are using the sliders to focus on more chest/ pec contraction when coming up( bring sliders inward/ more horizontal adduction). .
4️⃣In the forth exercises we are performing a plyometric push up on a bosu ball to challenge pushing power and stability.
.
5️⃣For the fifth exercise we are demonstrating a push with a elevated surface on one side( allows Serratus anterior to work more and shoulder to maintain stability). In the opposite arm, it will cause more contraction to the chest musculature as your pull the band to the middle. .

  • There was a time when I could do military push ups with a clap between without strain or much effort. Now I struggle to do these inclined push ups. But the point is you have to start where you are now. And improve from there. The frustration for me comes from knowing how much I was/am capable of and having to start again at the basics. All of this struggling and inner turmoil will hopefully just ensure I never allow life to take over again.  I won't allow it or anyone to put my own health and strength at the bottom of the list.

  • Looking for a fun challenge this weekend? Try this single leg bear crawl pushup on a stability ball as shown here by my awesome client and NPC figure competitor @lpetchlee1 . Notice how she’s using slow & controlled eccentric isometrics to dial in her mechanics and maintain control.

In fact without the use of eccentric isometrics, this exercise as well a many of the advanced moves I post would be nearly impossible. Eccentric isometrics help the lifter use the improved proprioceptive feedback & kinesthetic awareness they receive from emphasizing the eccentric to fine-tune their body mechanics. This inevitably leads to approximately 90 deg joint angles on most movements as this represents the most biomechanically & neurophysiologically sound position not only for functionality, athletic performance, & joint health, but also for strength & hypertrophy training. To go deeper than 90 requires the lifter to sacrifice muscle tension & activation in order to allow various degrees of collapsing.  Maintaining maximal full body tension, spinal rigidity, & motor control inevitably causes the lifter to hit 90 deg without them even having to be coached as it’s coded into our physiology & DNA as instinctive, natural, & optimal movement. As for this drill you’re essentially resisting rotation & extension forces making it nearly impossible to use anything but perfect spinal alignment. As a result the core gets pulverized which also has a tremendous impact on dialing in pushup technique. It also has excellent carryover to sprinting mechanics. No gym? No problem! Do at least 16 push ups in each variation before moving to the next level.

Progressively increase the amount of decline to get the right difficulty for your level! If you can do more than 20 decline push-ups, we recommend going to failure instead for more GAINZ. Just make sure you also allow time for recovery.
