  • “South Africa selling tiger and lion hunts to China's nouveau riche” - FFS!
.
Fvck Trophy Hunters 😡. SHAME ON YOU SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦 This is messed up!

Tigers, leopards, lions, elephants and rhinos were among the many species of wild animals on offer by South African hunting outfitters at the first-ever Chinese hunting show in Shanghai last weekend.

Critically endangered tigers, considered to be ‘functionally extinct’ in China, are now offered by several South African hunting businesses.

Since tigers are primarily defined as an exotic species in South Africa, the captive breeding, trading and hunting of this CITES Appendix I species is unregulated, with an estimated 60 mostly unlicensed tiger breeders ... Debbie Banks, our Tiger Campaign Leader, commented: "Another morally repugnant move by South Africa and a wilful violation of the commitment of Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species to end demand for tigers. It demonstrates South Africa’s failure to ensure protection for exotic species." .

  • Following previous video, hope you've watched it! 🐋💙
Some cute facts about Humpback whales:
• They are known for their complex songs (30min. Long)
• The singing is done by the males
• You can find them near coastlines
• The calves are being nursed for about a year • The calves grow until they are 10years old

  • Nachhaltigkeits-Tipp No 2⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
**Auf Küchenrolle verzichten**⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • 🐟High Finned Grouper🐟
Here in Asia we have some of the richest, most diverse and productive fisheries in the world. But our seafood resources are declining fast due to excessive and destructive fishing practices, pollution and development. The High Finner Grouper is under particular threat and if wild caught from South Eat Asia it should not be eaten. 📸 : SCMP

  • Countries who hunt 🐋 whales say: "it's part of their culture and necessary for food" 🤔
Even though environmental & welfare groups say the meat contains a dangerously dose of mercury (poisonous to humans)

I say: Leave these beauties alone and try to listen to their sounds when you feel out of balance or on a daily 😊 🌊💙

  • | African Chameleon |
The Congo Basin is home to over 280 species of reptiles and our forest concessions ensure the preservation of their wildlife habitats. For now, the African Chameleon population is stable and they can be spotted on tree branches, shrubs and reeds in the Sahel region.

  • The sea once it casts its spell holds one in its net of wonder forever 🌊 #JacquesYvesCousteau 🐡 I am hooked alright! I have been for the past 9 years and scuba diving has changed my life. It has also changed my awareness and the way I look at the world. It’s one of the reasons I’m talking about ocean conservation and #plasticfreeliving

Marine biologist Sylvia Earle said it best “Why is it that scuba divers and surfers are some of the strongest advocates of ocean conservation? Because they've spent time in and around the ocean, and they've personally seen the beauty, the fragility, and even the degradation of our planet's blue heart” ➡️ Have you ever tried snorkelling or scuba diving? If yes, has it made you more environmentally aware?

P.S. for the dive savvy, yes I’m diving in a 7mm in Bali, thermoclines are damn cold and i am ok with being called a wuss 😅 (also my 5mm is broken)

  • It’s Tuesday, and the last week of June, and time is moving really really fast. •

It’s fantastic to have my qualifying exams behind me, and to wade slowly back into the world of building my Ph.D. , stumbling towards publication submissions, and finding some time to go to the ocean. ☀️ •

But balancing mental health with barreling forward after 1.5 months of intense studying is hard. My body isn’t thrilled with the cortisol, and I immmmmediately got sick after comps exams were over. Classic. •

But amidst the challenges to balance life and work, I’m finding new ways to take care of myself. Most importantly - I’m starting to face my Impostor Syndrome head on. 🌱 •

Impostor syndrome is a psychological pattern in which an individual has consistent thoughts that they lack qualifications, doubt their expertise, and have a persistent fear that they will be exposed as a fraud. Graduate school is an environment where impostor syndrome runs wiiild. •

I think it’s something we all deal with to some degree, but I’m starting to notice where negative self-assumptions and doubt are undercutting my skills and limiting my chances to mentor, engage, and apply what I’ve learned. •

There’s no easy out from feeling like an Imposter - but questioning the voice in my head that knocks me as unqualified is a slow but important start. Talking about it openly is also slowly defeating the ghost of doubt. And also - asking for support. Do you deal with Imposter Syndrome? How do you defeat it?
