  • PORTRAITS OF THE RIFT - OMO VALLEY, ETHIOPIA - ERBORE WOMAN

#portraits #Ethiopia #ethnicity #faces #skin #erbore #africantribes #riftvalley #beautyofafrica #africanwoman #portraitsoftherift #africanskins #valleedurift #ethiopie #portraitphotography #natgeo #nakedplanet #omovalley #womenofafrica #nikon #nikonbelgium #photographerlifestyle #portraitsofafrica #travelportrait #people_infinity_ #lonelyplanet #remoteexpeditions #travelphotographer

  • Last summer when I was in Rwanda J. immediately caught my attention. Every break he would sit on this same chair surrounded by people.
When he started to talk, it became very silent.
17 years ago J. left the DRC because of violence outbreaks. Since all that time he had been living in a refugee camp in very difficult circumstances. Dreaming about seeing his children and grandchildren grow up in a safe environment.
Hope kept him positive he said.
Hope that one day his family would be moving out of the camp.
And that day finally came. After 17 years will be moving to the States together with his children and grandchildren.

  • Everyday I’m looking into people’s eyes, the moment we connect can be full of the unknown, that split second can share so much before words are even spoken, or if they’re even required.

Years of being a human have taught me to use eyes to understand a moment, a situation, an emotion. Pain, Fear, Love, Hate, Happiness, Loneliness, Authenticity, Innocence, Danger, Deceit and Truth...are just a few things the eyes cannot hide.

Eyes keep me alert, aware and as safe as I can be, I watch, like eyes watch me, I feel, as they feel me and I smile as they smile back at me...and if they don’t then we shall see.

Humans are interesting, humans are interested our eyes all have different journeys and how we connect, share and learn from those with each other is important. :
:
I’ve not been so captivated or set back by a pair of eyes in a very long time, sharp yet soft, distant yet present, innocent but wise. Stephen Andrew is 10.

  • Big news coming out of Lugazi. @foundationitav has just hired its first full time employee, Vivian Dibya!
#
Vivian will be our full time Field Partner in Uganda, and her role includes routine visits to each of our partner villages, aggregating individual income data, updating ITAV on microfinance project milestones, managing the student sponsorship program, and developing an annual report.
#
We are thrilled to have Vivian as a full time partner. She has a degree in Psychology from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and has the respect and trust of all the women in our partner communities. Having Vivian on the ground full time will allow for real-time problem solving and decision making that is 100% locally driven and autonomous. This is just a formalization of everything that she and Robert have been doing over the last 2 years, but her full time involvement will improve overall efficiency and continue to drive already fantastic results.
#
You are most welcome, Vivian! Webale!

  • PORTRAITS OF THE RIFT - ETHIOPIA - HAMER GIRL

Un très beau souvenir que ce moment passé dans un village de la tribu Hamer, une des plus belles et accueillantes ethnies de la Vallée de l’Omo, résumé dans le regard de cette enfant, plein de sérénité, de finesse et de beauté.

  • The art of cooking sadza is a rather hallowed one in Zimbabwe, every Zimbabwean claims that their particular method is the best and thus produces the best sadza. 👑 We have seen a varied plethora of weird and wonderful sadza making techniques, 🥄🤷Comment below if you’ve got a particularly wild one ? 🤪

  • Makeover Completed! My painting of 'Esther' is finally done after agonizing over whether or not to sand her down, and repaint her. I hated the orange color in the original as a background and her skintone was lighter than I wanted. The final result is more pleasing and what I had in mind when I first started her. Two odd things about this painting that I found interesting. 1. Her eyes will follow you wherever you go. 2. From afar, she looks bitter but up close she has a slight smile.😉
_
One thing that my phone camera could not catch is that the background has more yellow and her skintone is richer. Attached are some photos of my process from final, painting skin tone in layers, sanded canvas, and the old painting. I am so happy that I did this makeover of Esther. 16x20 canvas - 🖌🎨@donniecesage

  • Ruth and Isaac live in a slum in Lusaka, Zambia. Isaac (behind) is Ruth's best friend. They play together, go to school together and he protects her when needed. Albino children in Africa are often targeted because witch doctors say their bodies can cure diseases. Ruth & Isaac are supported by a project of Orange Babies. Thank you all who helped collecting money for Ruth to protect her against the sun till she is an adult. Together we can make the world a better place! Regards Adrian -

This portrait is part of the We Are Orange Babies project of Adrian Kuipers and awarded at Pia D'or, Prix de la Photografie Paris, International Photographer Of The Year and Shoot The Frame and featured in the National Geographic Block Calendar of 2020.

  • A Safari Like No Other!
Most guests come to Africa to commune with nature: with the awe-inspiring elephants and rhinos that roam the great plains, the fearsome lions and leopards, the primaeval savannas where man first walked the Earth. The surest and safest way to see these sights is on a game drive in a modern safari vehicle. However, there are a number of other activities and pastimes that make up a classic Ker & Downey safari – and many of these offer diverse new perspectives on the wild.

Camping on private ranches and community trust lands offers a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of our ancestors, tracking large mammals on foot or riding a horse among thousand-strong herds of game. K&D also has close ties with several specialised camel operators, who offer uniquely elemental encounters with Africa’s northern deserts – with optional nights sleeping under the stars.

  • FACES OF AFRICA - ETHNICITY - PORTRAITS OF AKSOUM

#portraits #Ethiopia #ethnicity #faces #amhara #tigray #beautyofafrica #aksoum #axoum #ethiopie #portraitphotography #picoftheday #natgeo #orthodoxchristmas #portraitofafrica #orthodoxceremonies #travelportrait #ethiopianculture #womenofafrica #nikon #nikonbelgium #photographerlifestyle #portraitsofafrica #travelportrait #queenofsaba #aksum

  • This is Souabou Cisse- his father walked to Mecca twice and was inspired to build the mosque behind him along with volunteers who were attracted to his father’s religious charisma. Souabou and his brother take care of the 7 mosques at bani. The mosques are made of mud and basically have to be rebuilt every 7 to 10 years due to the rains. His fathers masterpiece places of worship start to melt before his eyes! It’s a race against the elements but many people from Bani or the surrounding villages see it as a friendly contest- who can restore their adopted mosque the fastest!?
